If you're after something, it is also a good idea to approach the attendent BEFORE he/she greats you and explain what you need in a product, normally with me (working at Vodafone) I don't direct the customer to the most expensive phone, I would rather them walk out with what they need / are happy with. It's pointless having a angry customer at the end of the day. If a guy directs you to the most expensive product, just say "Have you got anything else in my price range of $100?" Sorted.

Philip, I love your new adidas runners!...but for..."GASP"...$85.00!!? I bought a pair of nike baskeball kicks that retailed at $110 but got them at a sweet deal for under $60. Where you live, do you have American shoe stores like Foot locker or Finishline?

Very few people selling stuff have much idea about what they are selling. Or at least, the customer knows much more about a lot of products. After all, the customer is using these products every day.

shoes, glorious shoes, what is there more handsome?... at least people wait on you in NZ, in the US they tend to ignore you until you flash some cash or a card or act like you intend to buy something, and even then they're not knowledgeable. Perhaps he gets a commission based on sales?

I have similar experiences here when shopping. When I go shopping I like to wear very casual clothes so they don't bother me as much. It works for the most part, but no always. I think I may actually go buy some new shoes today now. I just need to get my lazy self moving this morning. I guess turning my computer off would help! =:)

I found that I needed to learn all about running shoes myself because often they didn't know that much about shoes; so now I am able to look at the shoes and decide myself what is best for me.
