@Jessyleppert Rod didn't get *diagnosed* until 2001. It's probably reasonable to assume it had been progressing for some time. Colon cancer is slow moving, which is possibly why it goes unnoticed for so many people.
Wonder if his cancer had started to get bad by then. His voice was a topic of discssion on ATGS at the time, but I don't think the public knew he had cancer yet, if he had it diagnosed by then
I think at this point Rod was trying to save his voice from cracking. If you see some of the early Rod shows, his voice cracks a LOT. As a result, his delivery sounded FAR less exciting than it did before. His voice and delivery starting becoming lackluster sometime after the 25th season and didn't get much better. However, during the show's 32nd year, when cancer would claim his life, he sounded better, perhaps because he knew the end was coming and he wanted to do well.
What's with the mountain climber moving so slow I wonder? Also, notice how the climber is not yodeling from 25:46-25:48. Only two seconds, though.

Hard to believe this would be the last full season with models Janice Pennington and Kathleen Bradley. How sad!

Rod doesn't seem himself in this episode; his voice is so low and tame.

@Jessyleppert The century actually didn't end until the end of the year 2000. The 21st century started 1/1/2001.
Still hard to believe that this was 12 years ago.
