Hi! whenever i click "shrink volume" it doesn't continue instead it gives an error saying "the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." help please :(
Thanks so much i have had lots of little partitions for ages from when i first got the computer and now its all one big hard drive like i always wanted it!
how can i icrease the size of my drive C..can i add the space of an unllocated partion to it..or delete a certain partition and add it's freed space to my drive C to increase the volume?
I have Windows 7 and would like to expand the C drive where the OS is located. Its maxed out however D drive has 225 GB in it. I am finding out that it is not possible to use the Microsoft program your explaining well, to accomplish expansion of the C drive, however, software is available for purchase that will do this expansion into C drive. What say you sir? Mark
Seriously, dude, I was 2% off. And even if I was, then why call me a dumbass? That seems like a pretty obscure way to measure one's intelligence level.
well, yeah ok. But keep in mind that high end pcs dont use plastic casings. maybe those older lower end pcs do, but most good computers have metal cases.
I must say, I really like the finish on the Macs
As soon as I got enough money, im going to get one :)
Oh rofl, yeah but the case doesn't really matter, it's just a shell. Most people care more about the price and the computing power and would rather pay a lot less for a normal case
@EmuTime2 Just saying, the Mac is an art And true, there is a significant tax for the logo. But, you get what you pay for. But if you don't want to pay a lot, and don't care about fit and finish, make a hackintosh. Being a former die-hard PC gamer, I have perspective on both sides.
Yeah. All I'm saying is that I have used Windows for years and I love it. I think the main reason I don't switch is because I know too much about Windows and PCs. Ik I could learn alot more about macs and OSX but I'm too far gone
Well, don't think that. I though that, but with a Mac, things are just where they should be, in the way they should be. I've been a Mac person only a few years, and boy, I've learned more than I ever did about a PC.
My PC has an aluminum case. Thermaltake M9 case actually. Only some tiny pieces inside are plastic. You REALLY need to learn more about this if you want to argue about it.
@EmuTime2 Just sayingthe mac is manufactured with high pressure water cutters, and lasers to carve out the speaker holes. The whole piece is made from a single crystal of aluminumin the same way titanium turbine blades are made. PC metal cases come from a sheet of metal, just bent, and molded. And laptop PCs are all shitty crappy plastic, with a whole bunch of openings where the casing can crack.
@EmuTime2 When I tried to open a high end PC laptop at Best buy, the bottom came up with the lid. I had to hold DOWN the bottom part to lift up the lid.
If u listened to when he was making the 1gig partition he made a mistake by saying "one thousand two hundred and forty mb, when it really says one thousand 24 mb.
Technically, the "mega" prefix means 1000000 and not 1024x1024. OS makers have got it wrong for decades. The correct term for 1024x1024 bytes is a mebibyte.
This is very useful if you want to "dual-boot" a computer, where you can run multiple Operating Systems from one PC, to do this you need to install each OS onto each partition.
This splits the Hard Drive into multiple partitions. They are frequently used to install different operating systems on one PC, with each OS on each partition. There are other uses, but this is the main reason.
You could use it to install differnt OS on each partition but you could also use it to store your data on the fly if you want to reformat that one side of your used partition to install/upgrade another OS
For those not running vista or win 7. Have you ever heard of GParted? It is a live bootable linux distro that can resize, format or create 17 different file formats. You can find them at gparted. sourceforge. net without the spaces. lol
@shehanster, If your first partition is what you wont to keep, no problem. More then likely Vista is on the first partition and 7 on the second. If that is the case your all but sol. I've removed 98, leaving win 2k, but it took me 4 times as long as if I would have just formatted the whole thing and started over. What ever you do DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP. Not yelling just showing importance.
@barnsleynut I wish Chris would do a few tutorial videos like this. Instead of teaching people about grammer and what to eat in Hawaii. Please Chris: regain your Geek status and start geeking about computers.
It's pretty much like placing a divider in the hard drive, saying that you want to keep a given amount of date space on one side of the divider, and the rest on the opposite side.

maskedscientist 2 years ago
erm, you can buy a pc with the same hardware as a mac. no difference.
the new iMacs all have Intel i7 or i5, which are also availible in pc's
no quality difference. All you pay the bill for for macs is the OS. its one of a kind.
Im not saying this as a Windows lover, since I use Ubuntu for most of my tasks.

You're thinking about this the wrong way. The "hard drive" is the physical media, the disk you actually put into your computer. On that you have partitions, otherwise you can't see it or write files to it.
