How come the new 1 GiB partition only has 97% free space? Where is the missing 3%??

I am finding out that it is not possible to use the Microsoft program your explaining well, to accomplish expansion of the C drive, however, software is available for purchase that will do this expansion into C drive. What say you sir? Mark

i can only 'extend volume' on the original drive and not C drive?

  • tanks you

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • after format them, my status is labeled as 'logical drive', not 'primary partition' as yours..i wonder why? does this means anything?

  • Can I extend my system partition like that too?

  • yes - if you mean teh main drive you boot from then yes you can splikt it into smaller pieces like ajapanes smaurai cuttin suchi with his sword -

  • Arigato!

  • 1240mb? You mean 1024mb.

  • he said it right

  • so small - it doesnt matter you cnt

  • Wow, it is so much easier to repartition a hard drive on a mac. It takes only 30 seconds! And the interface on the Mac for partitioning is GORGEOUS!

  • Wow, macs are so expensive! And take a whopping 4% worldwide market share!

  • @EmuTime2 You get what you pay for. And if most people can't afford it, it doesn't mean the computer is bad. It's actually 10%

  • Dumbass its 8% in USA and 4% WORLDWIDE get your facts straight

  • Seriously, dude, I was 2% off. And even if I was, then why call me a dumbass? That seems like a pretty obscure way to measure one's intelligence level.

  • I was a Mac lover, Windows hater.

With WIndows 7, even though it copies the Mac, I'm still a mac lover, but like windows 7 quite a bit. But PC hardware is still shitty quality.

  • erm, you can buy a pc with the same hardware as a mac. no difference.

the new iMacs all have Intel i7 or i5, which are also availible in pc's

no quality difference. All you pay the bill for for macs is the OS. its one of a kind.

Im not saying this as a Windows lover, since I use Ubuntu for most of my tasks.

  • I mean, the casings. Metal mac unibody, as opposed to crappy cheap plastic on a PC.

  • well, yeah ok. But keep in mind that high end pcs dont use plastic casings. maybe those older lower end pcs do, but most good computers have metal cases.

I must say, I really like the finish on the Macs

As soon as I got enough money, im going to get one :)

  • No PCs that I know of use plastic cases WTF are you talking about? All the PCs I have and seen are aluminum or steel

  • @EmuTime2 PC laptops.

  • Oh rofl, yeah but the case doesn't really matter, it's just a shell. Most people care more about the price and the computing power and would rather pay a lot less for a normal case

  • @EmuTime2 Just saying, the Mac is an art And true, there is a significant tax for the logo. But, you get what you pay for. But if you don't want to pay a lot, and don't care about fit and finish, make a hackintosh. Being a former die-hard PC gamer, I have perspective on both sides.

  • Yeah. All I'm saying is that I have used Windows for years and I love it. I think the main reason I don't switch is because I know too much about Windows and PCs. Ik I could learn alot more about macs and OSX but I'm too far gone

  • Well, don't think that. I though that, but with a Mac, things are just where they should be, in the way they should be. I've been a Mac person only a few years, and boy, I've learned more than I ever did about a PC.

  • My PC has an aluminum case. Thermaltake M9 case actually. Only some tiny pieces inside are plastic. You REALLY need to learn more about this if you want to argue about it.

  • @EmuTime2 Just sayingthe mac is manufactured with high pressure water cutters, and lasers to carve out the speaker holes. The whole piece is made from a single crystal of aluminumin the same way titanium turbine blades are made. PC metal cases come from a sheet of metal, just bent, and molded. And laptop PCs are all shitty crappy plastic, with a whole bunch of openings where the casing can crack.

  • Oh, I forgot that that method hasn't worked out for PC manufacturers, my bad.

  • @EmuTime2 When I tried to open a high end PC laptop at Best buy, the bottom came up with the lid. I had to hold DOWN the bottom part to lift up the lid.

  • The EXACT same thing happens with my sisters macbook but not my brothers XPS 16. so STFU

  • Well, older macbooks did that. But apple fixed it. And the xps is just heavy, so it stays down

  • I really need this on XP, good video

  • I knew this... but anyways a good useful tutorial...

  • Windows :-\

  • memory 12 gb o.O

  • is this the guy with the twitter thing?

  • If u listened to when he was making the 1gig partition he made a mistake by saying "one thousand two hundred and forty mb, when it really says one thousand 24 mb.

  • BIg up to this guy explain it real well. I didn't even fall asleep on this one. BTW you don't have a link to his channel?

  • Windows Vista is a piece of $h!7. I hope 7 is working out for ya...

  • @PhalangeStalker I LOVE Vista. Sure it has it's quirks, but doesn't every OS!?

  • NOOB USE GPART THIS WAY COUPS YOU HD if you duel boot

  • windows 7 man i love that

  • Technically, the "mega" prefix means 1000000 and not 1024x1024. OS makers have got it wrong for decades. The correct term for 1024x1024 bytes is a mebibyte.

  • Nice!

  • i think going to window 7. have 1 is 32bit and other 64bit

  • will that work for dual boot-up?

  • why shouldnt it?

  • Holay crap! u have 2 tb!

  • shit

  • This is very useful if you want to "dual-boot" a computer, where you can run multiple Operating Systems from one PC, to do this you need to install each OS onto each partition.

  • What does this do?

  • This splits the Hard Drive into multiple partitions. They are frequently used to install different operating systems on one PC, with each OS on each partition. There are other uses, but this is the main reason.

  • You could use it to install differnt OS on each partition but you could also use it to store your data on the fly if you want to reformat that one side of your used partition to install/upgrade another OS

  • can i shrink the C: drive?? plz i'm waiting the answer

  • yes u can

  • yess you can

  • @aqa722 you can shrink ANY drive. (maybe not a usb, but i think its possible)

  • you cant shrink your primary drive.

  • yes you can.

  • oh i guess you can lol. can't extend tho.

  • A little to fast for us novices trying to take notes; but good info.

  • youtube (dot) com (slass) lockergnome LIVE YO TEK WURLD IN HAA DEFINITION

  • i only have 152 gb

  • Lol, I have 3,5TB and I'll probably need another drive within a few months.

  • whoa, what types of comp did you have?

  • I have several hard drives, mostly for movies and video editing...

  • Bad luck, i needed this 6 months ago :D :S

  • Gparted is easier to use.

  • @ItsAllLinux I've used gparted and i hated it.

i've also used partiton magic by norton! it was much better

  • For those not running vista or win 7. Have you ever heard of GParted? It is a live bootable linux distro that can resize, format or create 17 different file formats. You can find them at gparted. sourceforge. net without the spaces. lol

  • Perfect to prepare a machine for a Linux dual boot install!

  • nice, quicker etc than from the old way i used to do it

  • I had no idea some people didn't know how to repartition a hard drive, But i guess its a great video for those people.

  • I want to see what he has on those drives. :) haha

  • his voice is the best thing that happened to that microphone o.o... lol

  • @theMastrgamr voices like this make us understand better

  • Cool, a useful tip. Thanks.

  • I KNEW IT! He's black! Voice just sounds like it. Don't get me wrong, I ain't no racist.

    Good tut :P

  • like this guys voice, no homo.

  • nice

  • dang this guy has alot of storage

  • yeah but how do i do it with XP?!

  • stealthydetective- its a recovery partition its made to store system backups dont mess with it

  • dude, you have some wicked storage space! ;)

  • i have a query

when i go to computer i see something that look likes a hard drive but it doesn't belong to me

    what is it ?

  • could you make a video on removing a OS in a dual boot system?? ex if i have vista and win7 show how to remove vista thanx

  • @shehanster, If your first partition is what you wont to keep, no problem. More then likely Vista is on the first partition and 7 on the second. If that is the case your all but sol. I've removed 98, leaving win 2k, but it took me 4 times as long as if I would have just formatted the whole thing and started over. What ever you do DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP. Not yelling just showing importance.

  • I like your voice its soothing and helpful

  • it's really weird. his voice is nice and soothing not angry or childish just nice. good video

  • Ha true that, Its better than a lot of these teenage boys he gets to do these. With there cracking voice and such. AMEN

  • I was looking for this a while ago, thanks warren.

  • This video would be very useful to me...that is if only I had Windows 7.

I still have a Windows XP PC XP

  • awesome, thanks

  • Other people posting on your channel, Product placement? wtf, unsubbed FIX IT PIRILLO you sellout.

  • People upload their screencasts to his site and he chooses the best to get featured on his channel.... what exactly is wrong with that

  • @barnsleynut I wish Chris would do a few tutorial videos like this. Instead of teaching people about grammer and what to eat in Hawaii. Please Chris: regain your Geek status and start geeking about computers.

  • @JimmyDasnitch92

I didnt know the KKK was on the net!?

    Yee-HAW!!!

  • ...i didnt mean it like that i meant that it was a shockingly nice surprise

  • @JimmyDasnitch92

how do you know he's black?

  • @MrToad321

because he has a beautifully deep/smooth classically amazing black man voice. No racism required. :)

    thanks though!

  • any one know of a good program to use to recovery a formatted NTFS 500GB HDD (quick formatted) and installed windows vista OS ??

    PLEASE REPLY !!

  • support my channel!

    windows 7 tutorials! windows 7 how to's

    /mikenew11

  • Hmm, Guys, whats partition mean, let alone hardrive partition.... X_X

  • It's pretty much like placing a divider in the hard drive, saying that you want to keep a given amount of date space on one side of the divider, and the rest on the opposite side.

  • @chrisman324 well what does that accomplish. Apposed to splitting it into two hardrives...?

    thx for the reply

  • @TheShowstopper

You're thinking about this the wrong way. The "hard drive" is the physical media, the disk you actually put into your computer. On that you have partitions, otherwise you can't see it or write files to it.

If you check "My Computer", you'll probably see C:\ which is the drive you're booting off. That is partition.

So unless you mean "splitting it into two harddrives" as actually getting out the old hacksaw - the only way you can do it is by creating more partitions.

  • wow this was complex. This win 7 BS uses the same partition editor that xp did. that's pathetic.

  • ....... duh, kinda obvious !

  • Can you do this in XP?

  • Nope

  • I don't believe there is a tool built into XP. You would need to download third party software to do this kind of thing. I cold be wrong, though. It's been a while since I've been really in-depth with XP.

  • Great screencast from Bowman!

  • is it 1024 or 1240? you said 1240 at least once

  • 1024

  • @TheBigCheezeIt

    128. 256.512.1024.2048.4096 etc

  • 1024

  • nice

  • 2nd

  • nope that was me xD

  • Failz

  • Nice video!
