In my country we have free healthcare, free schools, the tuition is an estimated 150$ each semester at university(and nothing else) we pay an average 36% tax with an additional 4-8% if your anual income surpasses circa 70k.

If u are now going to come back with shariah law courts and shariah compliant bank accounts, then they are only shariah laws for people who want to follow them, and they will follow shariah laws whether u have a structure in place or not, there are no penalties for not following shariah law in these countries.

Things like prices relay key information to providers. The difference between the private sector and the government isn't the morality of the people but the rules they operate under. This government can't lower prices, it can just conceal the real price. Also medicare denies more people.

The whole time I was just told to keep my weight off of it and just walk on it slowly, when I should have had a cast on it. Doctor's fuck up everywhere. It's not unique to Canada. And also, drugs cost up to four times more here compared to what Canadians pay. It's a fact, so your complaint about drug costs is a quarter of ours.

Just because some choose not to pay for it doesn't mean shit. Hi from capitalist USA! I have just gotten back from my annual check up. I had a 2 minute wait in the lobby, & a 3 minute wait in the actual check-up room. My doctor came from Stanford's medical program and said that he will leave the industry if Obamacare is not repealed. I live in the liberal bay area and pay $40/month for health insurance. I am 100% satisfied!

The real problem with the american healthcare system is the excessive overhead. Insurance companies and the healthcare providers cooperate. By making healthcare very expensive, only with an insurance policy can you pay. Insurance companies don't mind paying that much because of the garaunteed client base. You see? its the same thing that Truman's anti trust laws hoped to prevent. Don't be scared of the future.

Walmart is cheap - everyone can afford it. They sell hundreds of thousands of prescriptions for less money than a bag of popcorn costs at a movie theater. But if Walmart could only exist in California, they would have to charge MUCH more. The bigger the base, the cheaper the goods. Just like when you buy in bulk.

If we analyze that number.. 12-15 million in that number are illegal aliens who deserve no right to free healthcare, as they pay no income taxes. 15 million of those people are between 18-35 and probably choose not to purchase healthcare insurance because they are fit and healthy. 17 million make over $75,000 a year and could afford to pay. So that leaves 5 million.

The Canadian health care sytem is great if you are healthy but if you are sick prey that you have enough money to go to the states and get proper healthcare.

@samala5793 I'll start by saying that I agree that everybody should have healthcare available. But, the statistics are somewhat skewed because some people don't have access to it. If you look at people who are actually insured, the US system actually provides better care than any other country, mainly because we put so much money into it. The key is to keep the quality as high as it is currently, and ensure that it applies to everybody, not just those who can afford it.
@josh2ee I will say that people not having access to healthcare is one of the main reasons I supported this bill. I know many people who wait until things are truly horrible because they hope whatever it is will go away and then they won't have to pay $20 for a tylenol and go into bankruptcy trying to get back to healthy. Well cool, then explain to me why there are so many medical centers in northern US states like Washington and Illinois and New York that cater to so many Canadians coming down to get help, because it's going to take over a year to get a surgery that would vastly improve their life? You are either got lucky, or you're lying to prove a point. In any case, if your system was so great, those centers I'm talking about would be dead in the water from lack of business.
By the way, don't mistake my criticism of Canada's system for praise of the US system. My country desperately needs reform, but I'm pretty convinced socializing it is not the way to go. I've lived in a country with socialized health care, and had to suffer through a flu for 9 days with only OTC drugs because the NHS in London could only get me in April. It was December when I got sick. And the regular flu virus kills close to .5 million people a year. I'd say that's pretty serious.

I have heard this many times, but no one can come up with a viable alternative. What exactly isn't "right" about it? Is it just the word socialized? I would say compare to some of the European countries rather then Canada. Their systems are much more socialized. If you look at the quality of care in those countries it is extremely high. So are their taxes. That is ultimately the trade off, no matter how people try to spin it - government run health care costs money. The most difficult part of reform for you guys is that much of your government is lobbied by Pharmaceutical Companies and so is much of the public media.

In my country we have free healthcare, free schools, the tuition is an estimated 150$ each semester at university(and nothing else) we pay an average 36% tax with an additional 4-8% if your anual income surpasses circa 70k.
Political campaigns are NOT allowed donations, and does not need funding because we have no "real" campaigns (not even tv ads). If you are a republican reading this you might think I live in communist China or that we are socialist.

If u are now going to come back with shariah law courts and shariah compliant bank accounts, then they are only shariah laws for people who want to follow them, and they will follow shariah laws whether u have a structure in place or not, there are no penalties for not following shariah law in these countries.

The whole time I was just told to keep my weight off of it and just walk on it slowly, when I should have had a cast on it. Doctor's fuck up everywhere. It's not unique to Canada. My doctor came from Stanford's medical program and said that he will leave the industry if Obamacare is not repealed. I live in the liberal bay area and pay $40/month for health insurance. I am 100% satisfied!

The real problem with the american healthcare system is the excessive overhead. Insurance companies and the healthcare providers cooperate. By making healthcare very expensive, only with an insurance policy can you pay. Insurance companies don't mind paying that much because of the garaunteed client base. You see? its the same thing that Truman's anti trust laws hoped to prevent. Don't be scared of the future.

Walmart is cheap - everyone can afford it. They sell hundreds of thousands of prescriptions for less money than a bag of popcorn costs at a movie theater. But if Walmart could only exist in California, they would have to charge MUCH more. The bigger the base, the cheaper the goods. Just like when you buy in bulk.

If we analyze that number.. 12-15 million in that number are illegal aliens who deserve no right to free healthcare, as they pay no income taxes. 15 million of those people are between 18-35 and probably choose not to purchase healthcare insurance because they are fit and healthy. 17 million make over $75,000 a year and could afford to pay. So that leaves 5 million.

Greetings from the communist-phobic USA! I have no healthcare. My country just passed a healthcare reform law that did little to improve the system...
...what does this have to do with the Pickens Plan? Think this guy is for real, or is the strong push for wind a veiled attempt to boost the natural gas industry, of which all of the supermajors (ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP, Shell, ConocoPhillips and Total) are very heavily invested?
Not saying my own opinion is set. Purely curious.

If you have to go to a doctor and wait for 3 hours, 4 times around, then you should probably get a new doctor. I make appointments, I show up on time, I see my doctor within a few minutes.

@linzzyy I'm Canadian too and our healthcare system seems great doesn't it, until you actually get sick and have to wait over a year for an MRI. The Canadian health care sytem is great if you are healthy but if you are sick prey that you have enough money to go to the states and get proper healthcare.

@mcshotgun96 Agreed you do have to wait as everyone goes for fooking hangnails to the hospital b/c it's free. But I'd much rather wait then stand around and die outside unable to afford it. Also priority eleviates the wait. If it's urgent you wont be waiting. I've had 4 spontaneous pneumothorax's (collapsed lung) i also got the surgery to fix it... free... with little wait... I can't imagine the debt my family would be in had I lived anywhere else in the world.

getting natural gas is done by a system called hydraulic fracking. however when they drill so deep down and cause these explosions to release the gas, it poisons peoples drinking wells. even cases of peoples' water faucets being lit on fire. check out the trailer for GasLand on youtube.

@JohnAntonyFortune Where do I sign to NOT PAY FOR THIS WAR? Don't be ignorant, your tax money pays for things you aren't even aware of, regardless if you want/use them or not. Examples: A maintained sewer system even if you own a septic tank, schools even if no one in your family attends (which judging by the way the people in this country act seems certain), fire departments, police departments, post offices, and so on. I know there are programs you don't want and your tax dollars pay for.

Salutations from America! Land of the free! I haven't been to the doctor in over 10 years and I have had a hernia for about eight of them. I don't have health care and I'm to poor to get a large tax refund from the governments but that doesn't stop them from taking 15-20% of my paycheck. God bless america but don't worry so much about americans!

Statistics show that the U.S. pays twice as much for healthcare and has the worst rates of infant mortality and we are #41 in the world for life expectancy...guess how many of those countries that live longer have government run healthcare!!!

@samala5793 I'll start by saying that I agree that everybody should have healthcare available. But, the statistics are somewhat skewed because some people don't have access to it. If you look at people who are actually insured, the US system actually provides better care than any other country, mainly because we put so much money into it. The key is to keep the quality as high as it is currently, and ensure that it applies to everybody, not just those who can afford it.

@josh2ee I will say that people not having access to healthcare is one of the main reasons I supported this bill. I know many people who wait until things are truly horrible because they hope whatever it is will go away and then they won't have to pay $20 for a tylenol and go into bankruptcy trying to get back to healthy. well, when i started having seizures a few years ago it took about 24 hours to get the MRI & CAT scans done.... i was not expected to pay for them either

Well cool, then explain to me why there are so many medical centers in northern US states like Washington and Illinois and New York that cater to so many Canadians coming down to get help, because it's going to take over a year to get a surgery that would vastly improve their life? You are either got lucky, or you're lying to prove a point. In any case, if your system was so great, those centers I'm talking about would be dead in the water from lack of business.

By the way, don't mistake my criticism of Canada's system for praise of the US system. My country desperately needs reform, but I'm pretty convinced socializing it is not the way to go. I've lived in a country with socialized health care, and had to suffer through a flu for 9 days with only OTC drugs because the NHS in London could only get me in April. It was December when I got sick. And the regular flu virus kills close to .5 million people a year. I'd say that's pretty serious.

Fair enough & I am not saying that our system is perfect either, far from it. My experiences to date have been fast & efficient. As for socialized medicine not being right for the US... I have heard this many times, but no one can come up with a viable alternative. What exactly isn't "right" about it? Is it just the word socialized? Just an FYI, there isn't a "Canadian" system, every province is different.

I would say compare to some of the European countries rather then Canada. Their systems are much more socialized. If you look at the quality of care in those countries it is extremely high. So are their taxes. That is ultimately the trade off, no matter how people try to spin it - government run health care costs money. The most difficult part of reform for you guys is that much of your government is lobbied by Pharmaceutical Companies and so is much of the public media.

meh I got hit by a car a few years back and because we have the NHS I didn't have to pay for the surgery, when I was in San Diego my room mate said his brother had fallen down the stairs and smashed his head and is still paying for it 5 years on... that scared the crap out of me, I could become bankrupt and in huge debt because I fell down the stairs?
