i just finished reading a book on the ramones mostly about joey. joey was such an amazing guy and to the the day of jis death johnny ramone never called or just a put a rest to tall the bullshit between him and joey and give him a decent apology. we miss you joey<333
@MrsGerardWayForever he's from NY, but they always said he used to have curious accent: A mix of NY accent with brit accent (mainly because of his love for certain british bands), or that's what I read in one of their bios, at least :)
This is so great! Joe Franklin was used to interviewing almost-forgotten stars from the 30's and 40's. It was so typical of him not to know anything about his guests, unless they were really ancient. And he would fumble with questions. It's what made him endearing and campy. Love the way he calls them the "Ray-mones". And Joey and Marky are respectful! They liked Joe's vibe... an old out of it uncle. Thanks for posting!
@pariahpete Were you inspired a little bit by the Led Zeppelin?...a little bit by the Grateful Dead? It's like Joe just heard of these groups on the news or something. They have nothing to do with each other, and it's adorable!
@sjk72 Hah! Yes. He was incredible. Didn't he also run old films in "Memory Lane" ? Al Jolson in "The Jazz Singer".... now THAT was his kind of music! He was on for insomniacs or people who didn't go to church for the 7:00 service. People like me. I can't believe the Ramones were on his show.
You know you are a true New Yorker if you were onto The Joe Franklin show on channel 9 at fucking 1 am every night mon-sat. This dude had Woody Allen, Bruce Springsteen and Barbara Streisand on before anyone knew of them. He was also good to watch if you had insomina. I miss my old black and white TV with the clothes hanger I used for reception.
i loved ol Joe franklin, this is kind of a later one, once cable hit and he was accepted and became a hit, i remember the ones from the late 70's early 80's, Joe was a lot quirkier and nervous, I loved the way he mispronounced the ramones, he always mispronounced people's names, he was known as "The Poor Man's Johnny Carson"
@shashwati According to the book On The Road With the Ramones off stage they were barely on speaking terms. Deedee says of Johnny "He was unpleasant to begin with.." and Joey (Jeff) blamed Johnny for stealing his girlfriend (actually Johnny didn't. Their relationship was very real). At the same time Joey's own psychiatric problems drove Johnny crazy. On stage they were just fantastic.
Awesome! I used to occasionally watch Joe Franklin late at night from my home in the Catskills on Channel 9 from Secaucus. My favorite part of this interview is Joe saying to Marky: "You know I had Gene Krupa, Sal Mineo and Mickey Rooney together on the same program!" Late night TV just isn't the same anymore without Joe Franklin ;-)
@tattypatty Irecently saw marc in person. He is a fine drummer and a really terrific entertainer, but he is still wearing that toupee. Oh well to each his own.
hi,lisaburks,i wanted to know how did you get footage of the great moseleum! i heard it was off limits! and this kinda gives us a clue as to where mj is buried! thanks for the video,it's really cool!
wor sure sucks now. It used to be so cool on cable in Chicago. There is nothing original anymore. Ramones are so awesome! Can anything be original today?
LOL, I loved that! It was so funny when Marky said "Joey is the best at what he does" then Joey replies by saying "I think Marky is the best drummer....well, one of 'em" ha, so funny!
