Had the same problem .. At mine it was the thermal diode controlling the fans .. It is under the plastic thing on the heatsinks .. Just clean it and it will run pretty nice again

Suggestion: buy a cooling fan, a new 360 or buy a ps3, either way should work (cooling fan is the cheapest way)

you guys think sound is an issue.. the delta dc 12v fans are only running on 5v factory set.. you want quiet when the real issue is shitty coling. thus the E74 and "rrod" sometimes overheat at startup.. but my point is why would you rather have silence over preformance? and no its got NOTHING to do with the power supply. its a fault in the cpu temp sensor so look on xbox experts.com and itl show you the trace to cut to shut down the sensor. good luck with your repair :)

Anyway, this is an old video now. I don't use this 360 anymore.

@gamerfreakUK its a fault in your cpu temp. sensor. theres a trace you need to cut and itl work again.. ive tryed this on all motherboard modles with this same problem and it works. snd it seem like you have a falcon mobo so yeah the repair should work fine

@unleasheth it sounds like both chips are failing. dont do the x - clamp replacement youl just make it worse. you need to get the gpu and cpu reflowed or re balled

I found a pic of what pathway to cut and tried it, and went from having 1 red light to three, then the fan picked up real loud and quick and then got 2 red lights, then it shut down. ive had it. 3 days of working on it and im finished, just went and chucked in the apt. dump. fugedaboutit
