interesting interview. Eli Roth is hit and miss for me as far as his movies. Loved Cabin Fever but hated both of the Hostel movies. I thought that Eli brought up some solid points, especially concerning the 70s and the Vietnam war, though I definitely thought that by saying that horror today was a reaction to Bush as opposed to a reaction to war in Iraq was him trying to pick a fight.

Its interesting when filmmakers use the old "look at what's happening in the world today" speech to justify violence in their movies. Using the restroom is a fact of life in the world but we don't need movies about it. I don't like Roth because I don't think he has talent. Good filmmaking makes people afraid of the dark. It's like a love story vs a porno movie..which one takes more talent?Roth is only scary in the sense that he would probably love to be a client in a torture ring and justify it.

I dont think Eli has a clue of what he's talking about. I think he's just trying to sound smart on tv. When I go to see a horror movie I'm definitely not thinking about the war on terror. In fact, I think that he is glorifying violence and therefore glorifying war.

@rusty, I don't think you understood what he was trying to say. He wasn't talking about individuals, but certain population's movie habits. Releasing certain genre films does need to be done carefully, you've gotta assess the times you live in. Gained a little respect for Roth here.
