Outstanding Cuppa. Tried this last night, had fewer rests in the beginning, but collapsed at 88. IMO downward dog isn't much of a break. The pain is still there. I guess I need to do this again. lol
@TeamGo33 lol yeah, this one is faster. Rolandsc suggested it, when I did week 6, sometimes I got bored with waiting with the rest time. This one you just torture youself once (short & sweet ha!)
thinking that this might work, just keep doing it then I bet we will get used to it! So now we deviate from hundredpushups plan haha
@CuppaWorkout The 100 pushup plan didn't work for me either. I got stuck around week 5 then got fed up and gave up. The CuppaWorkout challenge plan is working quite well though as a motivation! LOL
@TeamGo33 I'm just up to 80 using this "cheat" but this was with probably 5 ot 6 rests so not quite as many as Cuppa! I didn't time myself either, but I would guess at around 3 minutes. (My "excuse" is a weak lower back which starts troubling me if I rest in plank for this challenge.)
(continued from previous) ... when you go to downward dog, you move your hands in toward your feet. It gives you extra support, kind of like going to your knees for a sec. :) But that's just my opinion, don't listen too closely - EVERYONE has their own opinion about what's legit. What's important is ... CONGRATULATIONS!
@nasaguy well then next attempt (which is next week) I will do downward dog without inching my ways in :P... I think it's tougher...tiny improvement week by week until voila.....consecutive 100 push ups....my b'day is in 2.5 month, want to get this nailed before that as a gift for myself (so self absorbed haha sorry abt that).
@CuppaWorkout Sounds like a good idea. Did I say that I had a bad memory as well as a bad back?! Anyway, I'll try to remember roughly where I take the ! or the ^ in the sequence. I'm more confident of getting the right number of rests, than the exact reps in between. But I guess that will do the job. Some of my pauses would be in plank so I guess we don't count them for now? I'll also record my total time.
@CuppaWorkout Latest attempt 30^20^10^10^10^10^5^5=100! 4 mins 30 secs. I think this was a case of mind over matter, seeing as you beat me to the 100, I didn't want to be far behind you! Managed a new PB on bench press too this evening of 82.5Kg (182lb) which is just a few pounds short of my current body weight. I am so loving these challenges!
@rolandsc Awesome Roland! congrats on the PB on Bench Press.
I haven't done Bench Press in awhile but my personal best is 75 lbs (which is 63% of my bodyweight). This one was back in February when I fist trained in crossfit.
I did the following yesterday after kickboxing (did it with a workout buddy):
4 round of:
30 of 30# dumbbell Swings
10 of 45# power cleans (my power clean technique is bad so I go with light weight)
@CuppaWorkout Thanks. I was more pleased over reaching 100 pushups than the bench press though! Perhaps because I've been working so hard under your challenge to get there. The bench press PB was just the icing on the cake! Nice icing though!!! LOL On the pushups, my abs very nearly gave out before my arms!
I'm surprised you had any energy left after kickboxing for the additional workout! Sounds like a good one though.
@rolandsc aww Roland, it's nice to be able to push ourselves more each day right? Keep going....and the weight training helps too. I'm slowly back to my deadlift and weight training now. Do you do any 100 burpee lately? I might repeat in a week or so (try to do this monthly).
@CuppaWorkout Planning on doing the 100 burpees sometime again soon. Not sure I've been doing anything much that will help my oh-so-slow time there! But we'll see.
WAY TO GO CUPPA! WOW, Even if I were as fit as you it wouldn't have occured to me to go for 100 like that yet! Your determination is inspirational. And no, I wouldn't consider going to downward dog "cheating". The only thing that stops it from being a legit 100 in my book is that (continued next comment) ...
Hey congrats! Well I kinda helped you towards achieving your goal! And that was a pretty awesome achievement keeping going for that long AND making the 100! And despite the usual excuses (! joke!!) of your punishing kickboxing workouts!
Well done! Next stop 100 consecutive with no downward dogs!
@rolandsc well it's painful to watch, I guess this video is good to watch when you can't sleep, it will put you to zzz in no time or maybe not. I noticed when I watch any push up video and I counted, I found myself dozed off (whehter it's mine or someone else's - it's like counting sheeps).
Yes, I have to bring my KB excuses lol....I do feel that I will be better in a fresh day. I like this format better than doing 200+ push ups for the week 6, gosh, it's too long (20 min as opposed to 7).
if u realy want to become stronger make everyday .... i am practice karate and i can make 80 with no stop ...

@TeamGo33 Go you!!! saw the video, great effort!
I just proposed to Rolandsc that we can quote our number this way, like mine for example:
30/\15/\10/\3/\3/\3/\3/\2/\2/\2...2/\2/\2
each /\ represents downward dog (5 - 10 secs) without inching our ways in. That way, we can track the progress of each other.

@nasaguy Good spot on the form check. I wasn't going to mention it but.....!

@rolandsc Here is what I proposed for tracking purpose if we go with this approach.
Downward dog is allowed as long as we stay in the position as Nasaguy pointed out and then we do tracking the followings:
30|15|10|3|3|3|3|2|2....till 100. Each | represent that 5 - 10 sec downward dog.
so the less |, the better is the effort :)
