Tom Joad is the main character of a book called Grapes of Wrath. It's a classic, and has been banned and burnt in the past because it questions government and religion. It influenced Rage a ton, and you should really read it.

@finkenmaster yeah. the last part of the song is a quote form the chracter who left his family to help all the oppressed people out there. At the end of the story, no one knows whta happens to him- he just leaves to find justice for all.
