He concepted the iPad in the early 1990's, then he decided they could make this technology into a phone and worked to create the phone. @tmold16 Jobs slapped his name onto a lot of inventions by his employees, this has even been confirmed by Jony Ives. The concept for a tablet is way older than the 1990's and there were actual tablets created atleast as early as the Apple Newton (when Jobs wasn't at Apple) but none hade the quality of current tablets but more importantly, not the free hype that Apple products always gets nowadays. Apple started working on the iPad in the early 2000's, not before. But yes, it first became iPhone
