this is a pretty average speed for dsl though (768 kb/s is average)

if you have cable or FIOS (which is the fucking best) your probably getting speeds of 3-10 mb/s

and in the near future (5-10 years) everyone will have fios with pure fiber optic cables going directly into there computer (no coaxial or cat5/6 cable to slow that fucker down) and you will be able to reach speeds like 100-1000 megabits per second or even faster

OK here is a little info for all of you non GEEK computer users. There is no way you're going to make you're IP provider give you more connection especially with DSL with 3rd party software. Since usually all 3rd party software work behind in the background of software they were originally created for. the only thing you can do is by hardware (modem) you can uncap the bandwidth by applying new chip set driver that actually will withdraw the signal from your cables. But again its illegal,
