  • Dude said it was a 45, the box says 40 s&w...

  • @blaiereeves You should be able to see the numbers "45" on the slide of the gun, yet it has a barrel for a .40. The box is irrelevant IMO.

  • So far this is the most credible report of Hi-point guns I have come across. Frankly, I've seen several positive reports about Hi-Point. I think how Hi-Point dealt with the problem is a sign that they'll be around for a while and probably grow. Another review of a Hi-Point pistol had it shooting 1,000rnds accurately without any problems after it had been "broken in". Not ready straight out of the box but for the $ it's difficult to criticise that.

  • my .45 shoots flawless and has for hundreds of rounds.

  • for around $30 or so more you can get a surplus TT-33 or CZ-82.

  • That's too bad that you had two bad experiences with Hi Point. While I admit that it does stink for you, I will add that there are thousands more of other very happy/satisfied Hi Point owners out there, me being one of them (I own 6 Hi Point Pistols and a 995 so far). I have had no problems with my Hi Points so far.

I hope that you do find a pistol to meet your wants/needs no matter who the manufacturer is.

  • i have a hi-piont .45, it's the worst damn gun i have ever had...dont trust your life to it, when you need it it will fail you...good for target shooting though

  • dads got one its done pretty well so far,lol thats a pretty bad mix up though.

  • HI POINT'S ARE JUST AWFUL.

  • GOD this is like Valcan Arms (aka Blackthorne) all over again. Maybe HiPoint and Blackthorne will make a great partner. lol!

  • I had a Glock Model 22 (.40 S&W) and a year ago while browsing some message boards discovered that there had been recalls on that model and that Glock had sent notifications to owners. My gun was registered with Glock and I never received any notice. I called them up, gave them my serial number and found out three things had to be done to it. They shrugged off the fact that I had not been contacted. They wouldn't pay for shipping it back to them. I'm not happy with Glock.

  • As stated in the video comments, HP admitted the screwup.

  • How can you tell this just wasn't a screw up at the store rather than HP?

a 40 S&W gun with a 40 box and a 40 magazine makes it seem like the store put the wrong sticker on it.

  • Not to mention, why would the store put a sticker on the box? Where would they get the sticker? It came marked like that.

  • i WASTED my 175 bucks on a .45 cal hi point. 3rd shot the gun lieraly exploded in my hand. cracked the FRAME of the gun in 1/2. i sent it back to hi point. they sure fixed it. but ill be danged if i ever try to shoot it. i just leave it in the gun cab. to look nice. thants all its worth and really it doesnt even do that well lol!

  • That's horrible! Glad you weren't injured. Thanks for the comment.

  • do they sell hi points in walmart im stay in bham alabama and i dont know where to find them

  • this is very weird because the 40's are made at ibearia firearms. 45 is made at haskal manufacturing. and the 9mm 380 and carbins are made at beemiller inc. so how does a slide from a 45 get to the other factory to be put on the 40. almost impossible. i own a 9mm carbine 40 and 380 so far. im getting the 9mm and 45 soon.

  • Ya good point that's abit of a distance to. The 45's made in Lima off of bluelick road if I remember right and the 40's made in Galion off of 68 and 309 if I remember right.

  • The company admitted it was assembled with the slide from a .45. Yes, it would chamber a .45.

  • The thing that puzzles me is that the box says 40S&W but it's sharpied out and 45 in place. My question is would it chamber a .40? Maybe just maybe the mold has screwed up when printing the stuff on the slide. It sucks that it happend, I love mine.

  • GlockDUD69, you need to get your facts straight.

"Gangbangers" use the Glock more than most other brands. Glock is a dime a dozen, and easy to get on the black market. Plus, a monkey could operate one.

Most firearms manufacturers have bad guns occasionally. Ruger, S&W, Kimber, Glock, Beretta, Springfield Armory, Mossberg, just to name a few have had lemons. Does that mean they all suck???

Nope it doesn't. This guy just has bad luck with these pistols.

My JCP 40 runs with zero problems.

  • you get your facts straight. i am a law officer south texas.all we pull of the streets are cheap guns like hi point. i never got a glock from a criminal.but i have gotten glocks from academy lol.i never heard of a glock being called.a saturday night special.

  • Wow! I'm in South Texas also. Small world! Thanks for the comment.

  • EVERY gun serves its purpose... but crap happens sometimes and you wind up part of a mix-up... if we were all perfect there wouldnt be a need for guns now would there ;-)

  • Yeah, I can really see your point. I do defend Hi points, I see them as a blue collar mans gun and I'd rather responsible gun owners had a hi point then nothing at all but with how cheap it is it would appeal to the criminal element, it's a shame to cause this company's customer service is great and I feel they fill a niche market.

  • uuuuuh wrong im a law officer in detroit and all i pull of the streets are glocks ak 47s and ar15s

  • Well according to reality ARs and AKs make up about 2% of crime weapons.

Number 1 was the Mossburg 500 and number 2 was some small .380 auto pistol.

  • GlockDUDE69, you need to get your facts straight. "Gangbangers" use the Glock more than most other brands of firearms. Glocks are a dime a dozen these days, and easy to get off the black market. Plus, a monkey could operate one.

As far as the video goes, every single manufacturer has bad weapons come off the line. This guy just has bad luck. Ruger, Kimber, Beretta, Glock, S&W, and Springfield Armory have all had problems. Does that mean they all suck??????

    The answer is: Nope...

  • Hi-point also has the best warranty in the market. If he called the company, they would let him send it in and give him a new gun with everything perfect on it for free. They also give you an extra magazine to offset your shipping costs. They aren't a bad gun, they just get snobbed occasionally.

Also, have you paid attention to how many recalls ruger has? They are a "well known" gun. So don't jump to conclusions based on price alone.

  • you get what you pay for.

  • if your gonna buy a gun be ok with spending money cheap/old guns can be deadly

  • I own a jhp and it has ten thousand rounds thru it with no trouble I also own the older jh and have no trouble with it . the jhp is my carry gun .

  • No shit good thing u seen the mix up good vid. I have a hipoint .45 It did good for me for about 5000 rounds then it started light striking primers. I sent it back and they sent me a new in the box gun. So not bad for $150. BUT DON'T BET YOUR LIFE OR A LOVED ONES LIFE ON IT.....

  • i own many guns im a fanatic about them i own many brands i have a 40 45 and 9mm hp i love them no problems but my favorite i my s&w model22a-1 being a woman shooting a lot of bigger cal guns hurt my wrists but i can shoot my 22 all day i have put about 1500 through it

  • At least Hi-Point is not made in China.'

They maybe cheep but the pice is right.

  • Amen to that!

  • may aswell be made in china those guns are junk and weigh a ton.only made for gang bangers.cheap gun that can be traded for drugs.IMO

  • sorry buddie. you are dead wrong. all highpoints are 100% american made in ohio. auto manufacturers cast the slides for them. read up before making foolish comments.

  • it's called a "magazine" not a - just kidding! not going to sart the mag/clip war here... but sorry you got ripped off by HP!

  • Haha! Yeah, thanks for the mercy. I was embarrased later when I saw I said that. And I don't think I was ripped off by HP, I got full credit for a Taurus PT100AFS which I love.

  • lol good call on the clip mag war

  • Now dont get me wrong here,im not defending hi point, but before you post videos of highpoints and saying there junk just because of this one doesnt mean there all junk. There worth more than the pricetag says they are.Personal experience.

  • Oh well you said it wasn't clear if the store or manufacturer sharpied the box so I was going off that. the serial number would be the .40 because it looks like only the slide was swapped and the other thing to consider is the store probably got it from a distributor not direct so chain of custody etc. I wont get into some debate about quality cause people either like these or they dont, but you got 2 bad from same "reputable" store..so something to think about

  • Considering gun sales have gone up in Texas 1000% since Obama, and the lines are thick in every store I've been in, I don't see how any store would have time to mess around with a gun or box.

  • Didn't say HiPoint sharpie'd the box. I'd say one of the store employees saw the .45 slide and marked it accordingly. Serial numbers on the box and gun matched.

  • wait a sec ..the STORE told you hipoint said it was their goof-up, You didn't call hi point yourself? I don't know the details but I see no reason hi-point would sharpie a box to .45..I'm sure they got hundreds of boxes ..just my 2 cents

  • nothing like the glock 22-40cal

  • I haven't read all the comments, but it looks like your gun shop did some work and got the receivers mixed up. The Box says 40, the 40 clip, and the 40 barrell are indications. I would not shop at the gun store/shop again. I recently bought a JHP 45, put 100 rounds in her that day with no issues, so I wouldn't blame Hi-Point. This looks like some gun shop shennanigans.

  • That's what I thought too, but the rep from Hi-Point acknowledged it was their mistake. So, who really knows... :(

  • Did you directly talk to the Hi Point rep or did the same people who sold you the gun do the "talking" and tell you they said it was their fault.

I know from working in a Gunstore that sometimes, Guns get put back together wrong when some bonehead employee disassembles 2 similar guns.

I own 3 hi points and a few other handguns and have NEVER encountered a problem with any hi point product. Same goes for Glock.

  • why would the gun store do some work on a new gun? this has Hi Point craftmanship written all over it.. what a crap company

  • Very good point!

  • Haha, uh huh, sure. Provide proof or just spouting off BS?

  • u should of checked that out before you took it home...ur box says its a 40 cal s&w forget what the slide says....

  • The box does say 40 s&w

  • I've heard these sort of stories before. Myself personally own a 45 hi-point and haven't had any issues with it. Yeah it is a cheap gun so that can be expected it some respects but in your case thats messed up that what happened. Doesn't surprise me much though.

  • Hi-Point = GM

  • Hummm 40 S&W on the box and barrel and magazine all are a 40. I think some previous owner or the company put the wronge slide on it or you just got unlucky. Call Hi-point they will give you a new gun.

  • Good guess, but Hi-Point admitted the mistake and was going to replace the gun for the store. Still, scary.

  • yer just a hater

  • I've been called worse. :)

  • The funny thing is, the .40 and the .45 are built in two different shops.

The .40 is assembled at Iberia, the .45 at Haskell.

I'm willing to bet either the dealer or the previous owner (if any) got a bright idea regarding the identical sizes between the .45 and the .40

Call Hi-Point, you will get a new pistol.

  • The box says it's a .40 S&W, narrator claims that it's a .45.

    WTF?

  • Slide was stamped 45 caliber, which you can see at about 0:33, barrel, magazine, box, etc was .40.

  • is that a blazer round??

  • Regardless of what the problem is.... the bottom-line remains that Hi-Point/MKS will make it right anytime the owner wishes to resolve the problem. They have an un-limited lifetime warranty that is good for the original owner or the 100th owner. They will even give the owner some free magazines for their trouble. So..... WTH??? Get it fixed!!!

  • Totally understand your point, and it's great that they do that, but I'm not going to trust my safety and possibly my life on a company that keeps screwing up the simplest of tasks. 2 bad guns in a row is too much for me. Lots of GOOD gun companies out there to chose from.

  • sounds like me with keltec. PF9 broke the frame around the firing pin along with the plastic mag release in the first 300 rounds. fast forward a few months, i got a PLR22 that won't fully chamber a round, any brand i tried. cartridge will go in half way, bolt will close half way. first time i didn't see it wasn't shut, pulled the trigger sending shards of brass out the ejection port. yikes. in my experience, hipoint might even be better than keltec.

  • At no point did I see any "bashing" in this video... anyone who would insinuate that, is too "sensitive" to own a gun IMHO! (yes, UNSCARRED3227, I mean you! BTW, do you own stock in Hi-point? WTF?) Mistakes happen, to EVERYONE and by EVERYONE! Under $200 .45's are bound to have a flaw here and there, whether it's the mfr. or store owners fault. Get over it, lighten up and have a chuckle, (and be happy that's not your $189 gun) that's all that is needed! Next vid please!

  • If the this video is legit, then it is not the fault of Hi-Point at all, but rather the gun store. The Hi-Point .40 S&W and .45 ACP handguns are manufactured in different cities. The .40 is made in Galion, Ohio and the .45 is made in Lima Ohio. I find it hard to believe that this gun could be brand new and have mismatched parts.

  • It absolutely IS legit. Maybe the guns are made in different cities but the parts are assembled in one location. It's not clear if the store or manufacturer sharpied the box, but the clerk at the (very reputable!) store told me recently he called HiPoint and they fessed to the goofup. So, HiPoint - FAIL

  • The box clearly says Model: JCP 40 S & W. IF the barrel and magazine are clearly 40 S&W. I would say you had gotten a 40 S&W. I would say it is likely the store that caused the problem. They could have sold you a pistol with the wrong slide on it.

  • That is likely what happened, the gun was likely all .40, but with a .45 slide. But, that wasn't the store's error. It was assembled and shipped that way from the factory.

  • Really it just sounds like they sent you a .40, like you wanted, with a .45 slide. Don't let this keep you from trying an HP pistol. They are great guns for an inexpensive price. Leland will back me up on this. Have a good one!

  • I can just as easily make a gun bash video by buying both the 40 cal and the 45 ACP pistols and swap the slides. It also helps to take a Sharpie and cross out the 40 S&W on the box and write 45 cal on it to try and make people believe it's supposed to be a 45. Don't buy this crap, people. There's too much liability in the gun manufacturing business for something like this to happen, which obviously didn't. Parts from two different factories just don't end up together in the same box.

  • You are an idiot. What motivation would I have for FAKING this video? STFU and move on. Your beloved HiPoint company makes crap. Deal with it.

  • I'm sure this was an honest mistake, and they are embarrassed about it. But If you would have just called them instead of being a prick about it, you probably would have gotten some cool free shit. Why the post on youtube is beyond me! Grow up!

  • Embarrased? Doubt it. I'll agree I'm a prick though about expecting functionality in something like a GUN. Don't want any "free shit" that will probably be defective either. :)

  • It wasn't defective! It was an honest mistake. "If" it happened as you say. But why put that on youtube? Sounds like you are not mature enough to own a firearm.

  • Dude...an honest mistake is when they send you a .40 instead of a .45. That happens no matter who's doing the sending.

Incompetence is when they send you a .40 cal that is stamped as a .45!

  • THANK YOU!

  • You sound like you are being defensive. Proud hi-point owner I assume?

  • I've seen a lot of Hi-Point bashers on YouTube, but this one takes the cake. It's not even possible for a Hi-Point pistol to leave the factory with mis-matched parts. Why? Because the .40 S&W and the .45 ACP are made in two different factories. The .40 cal handgun is made by Iberia Fireams in Galia, OH, and the .45 pistol is made by Haskell Mfg. in Lima, OH. Both distributed by MKS. This video is lacking credibility.

  • I haven't seen any hi-point bashers on youtube, which is one of the reasons I tried the Hi-Point. I don't know about what you say about the factories, but the truth is that the parts WERE mixed up on this gun. Period. Took it back to the store and they acknowledged it. So... sorry, but it's real!

  • This video is odd. I would have had many question when I picked up this gun from the dealer. 1. Box sad 40 S&W. 2. 45 ACP didnt load in the clip. Looks like slid for a 45 was placed on a 40. Makes me wonder if it was a problem from Hi-Point or not.

  • It was an odd problem. Obviously poor manufacturing and little or no quality control. The serials on the gun and box matched. Yup, the slide for a .45 was on this gun. Who knows what else they mixed up.

  • Hi-Point is a great company. Call them and they'll fix the problem.

  • All you gotta do is call hi pointand talk to shirly and shell hook you up for FREE with a new mag.

  • Not the point. (pardon the pun!), it's got mismatched parts. Would you trust everything else to be what it's supposed to be and shoot it?

  • Yep! I do. Proud Hi Point JCP owner!

  • Hehe! Ok, well, cool. :) I just wasn't comfortable with it after that.
