How do I "save" on Youtube so I can find this again? I lost a great song that DISAPPEARED from Youtube a few months ago. Have tried in vain to find it. I only found this song on Youtube after emailing Wisconsin Public Radio who gave me the link. This can't be found in a search here.
I tried a google search and didn't come up with this. Heard it on WPR and finally emailed them to get the title. I thought it was called Why Am I a Soldier? Yup, a masterpiece.
@RCAFchicky The song is called Soldier, written by Les Barker and set to music by Coope Boyes and Simpson. It is available on the album The Wings of Butterflies. :-)
WWI was a terrible war, but is is often forgotten, overshadowed by WWII. I don't know about the other allied countries, but the US doesn't even have a National WWI memorial in Washington. I sincerely hope they get one soon, before our last WWI veteran passes away.
I love the Great War work of Coope Boyes and Simpson and saw them perform the Christmas Truce concert some years ago. Oli you got the exhortation wrong in your profile it should read
I stumbled on Coope Boyes & Simpson in a pub in the outskirts of London on a visit to the UK in the early 90s. They should be better known in both the U.S. and the U.K. -- a wonderful, wonderful group.
You should be able to get it from the No Masters online shop. It should come up in a google search. Glad you like the music. They should get more recognition :-)
where can i download the song? it really has touched me this song i had an uncle in World War One my age 19 shoot in a tree by a german sniper whilst having his dinner
And i wish to play this for my family to remember his untimely death
Thanks for your comments. I'm glad that it has touched you so much. I'm afrdaid I don't know where you can download it, but it is available on the album "The Wings of a Butterfly" by Les Barker (an album of Les' poetry set to music.
