like with the other studio ghibli films it looks like it has elements of japanese culture (scenery, animation, music etc) put into the film, but i dont think this will detract from it at all - its better that they made it original in some way while basing it on the books, than making some lame attempt at copying the books in every way.
Even if this is terrible, it cant be worse than the sci-fi version.. that one just made me sick.

I doubt you could find it, unless you got lucky and found a fan-sub. It's not out in English speaking countries yet but it is supposed to be released in Summer of '08 here in America.
I read from somewhere that there is some kind of copyright issues related to Earthsea books in USA that prevents them from screening Gedo SEnki before 2009 or even 2010.
Seems that most of the world is getting this movie in late 2007 or early 2008. Odd.
whan I was in thailand last year, They had a 30 minute program on NHK world about the production that went into this film. I think it was right before it was released in japan. it looks stunning.

Usula K. Leguin actually rejected the idea of making her story/book (haven't gotten the chance to get the book yet), she finally gave in and they had to change some stuff.
True, but most likely because you've read all the stuff that's in them before...in newer books. I will admit, there's a lot less tension in them than say Eragon or Harry Potter, but there's a certain something about them that really makes them stand out as classics. Afterall, these books are probably older than your parents and are still read often enough.
No, no! The Earthsea novels are probably older than your parents. Even then, I'm probably mildly exaggerating, if not by much. I know for a fact that the first book of the series is about two years older than my dad!

I am searching for the movie at least with english subtitles and I am so pissed of that I am not able to find it anywhere.

It would be perfect in English or as mentioned before in Japanese and with English subtitles.
I am not ready to wait until its final release in Austria.

I doubt you could find it, unless you got lucky and found a fan-sub. It's not out in English speaking countries yet but it is supposed to be released in Summer of '08 here in America.

Oh, sorry, I was thinking of Miyazaki's new movie that's coming here in '08.
There isn't a date for THIS movie to come out in America, though it seems UK and Australia all have it coming out real soon for them.

I read from somewhere that there is some kind of copyright issues related to Earthsea books in USA that prevents them from screening Gedo SEnki before 2009 or even 2010.
Seems that most of the world is getting this movie in late 2007 or early 2008. Odd.

whan I was in thailand last year, They had a 30 minute program on NHK world about the production that went into this film. I think it was right before it was released in japan. it looks stunning.
and for one of the posters above, Cat returns wasn't a miyazaki movie. it was a ghibli movie, but it was directed by Hiroyuki Morita :3

It's called "Teru no Uta" (Song of Therru) by Aoi Teshima.
She also does the voice of Therru and sings this song in the movie, although in a cappella form (without background instruments).
If you like this one, find "Toki no Uta" (Song of Time) too.

Me too...if you live in America a region 1 DVD will not be out till 2009 because of issues with the Sci-Fi Channel's copyright (those jerks).

Usula K. Leguin actually rejected the idea of making her story/book (haven't gotten the chance to get the book yet), she finally gave in and they had to change some stuff.

True, but most likely because you've read all the stuff that's in them before...in newer books. I will admit, there's a lot less tension in them than say Eragon or Harry Potter, but there's a certain something about them that really makes them stand out as classics. Afterall, these books are probably older than your parents and are still read often enough.

No, no! The Earthsea novels are probably older than your parents. Even then, I'm probably mildly exaggerating, if not by much. I know for a fact that the first book of the series is about two years older than my dad!
