loved this song on the finale of this classic movie.i was 14 when i 1st hear it.all people should watch this movie.i glad some1 had this part of this masterpiece.
The americans didnt fight and die for their freedom they invaded another country because they didnt like their system!
Im english too but fuck the queen and the whole family! And your an idiot if u think our boys are fighting for our freedom! Grow up, open ur eyes and take a proper look at the world!
i think it was horrible when the american troops went home from nam they were booed and bullied and had things thrown at them, what kind of country would do that to the men and women who fought and died for there freedom and protection. weather they won or lost it shouldnt matter you should never boo a solider of combat for doing his duty and protecting the freedom of there nation. im English and ive got the utmost respect for any British solider that fights for my freedom! god save the Queen!
did you know Mickey Mouse in the military means "Anything that is unnecessary or unimportant" i think Kubrick picked this song to give a little political message about the Vietnam world
Vietnam Vet here 1968-69; Nha Trang AB, RVN, Buck Sergeant.....we sang the "Robert Hall" song (an old department store long out of business)...we were kids who missed our Saturday Morning Cartoons....we were kids playing war.
One lacks the seconds strofe going in a fade, its starts like 'boys and girls' but rythms differently at the end.. Will the be a Full Metal Jacket II ?
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. We play fair and we work hard and we're in harmony. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse. Forever let us hold our banner high. High. High. High. @rpgfreak92787 GASP!! You were right!! After watching this video I HAD to go to disneyland 4 times and i watched The Lion King 32 times on loop because DISNEY is good.
Woulda probably been scary as hell for any Vietnamese nearby.... an army marching in the dark... heavily armed and cheerfully singing some incomprehensible song.... They must have seemed like monsters.
Mickey Mouse represents wholesome attitudes of a perfect wholesome Utopian society amidst chaos. But, also it's a connection between them and their family back home.
Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me? M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Hey there. Hi there. Ho there. You're as welcome as can be. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Mickey Mouse. (Mickey Mouse.) @ErzincanliMehmetcik I think its showing that even though they were just fighting and killing, they're all still kids, as goofy as it may be its a very deep scene. One of the many tragedies of The Vietnam Conflict is how young some of the guys fighting were.
nahh the ending is like in lord of the flies where ralh "wept for then end of innocence and the drkness of mans heart" this is their way of mourning their loss of innocence
@beta0blaster yeah it would be surreal and terrifying. I'd think they were fearless/brain washed/insane.... Would rather deal with regular soldiers than any of those variations lol
@664TijuanaMX No, its because nobody can take away their innocence in my opinion. Mickey Mouse Club, I think represents part of America's post-war dignity. All the baby boomers watched that show and kids are what USA became all about. When this war happened, it reignited tensions their parents had against Japan during World War II. Only now, it wasn't on US soil that the kids were being attacked but on foreign land when we were kind enough to send them to help fight their own war with Commies.
@664TijuanaMX In Vietnam Mickey was the symbol of "Mickey Mouse shit" - stupid things the POGs (Persons Other than Grunts, especially the rear-echelon officers and the military police) do or (try to) make them to do.
@jhat25 :A Juxtaposition in mood and setting;Kubrick was a master of this and maybe Kubrick's own degree of pessimistic-humour at work. The horror and spoils of war in contrast to the loss of innocence.
They didn't really. (Probably). Kubrick, the Director wanted to pay tribute to all of the 18-year old draftees in 'Nam through this song, emphasising how many young Americans died over there.
Its supposed to symbolize that through all the hell of war that even tho they have been turned into killing machines they have turned to there childhood memories and are reverting to an almost child like state if you know what that means.
Certainly not officially... But just like any good military song, the men make their own version of civilian songs, especially children's and religious songs.
Not only Drill Seargents, anyone who has the urge to make their own cadence can make one, there is definately no set "Have-To" as far as that is concerned.
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. We play fair and we work hard and we're in harmony. M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse. Forever let us hold our banner high. High. High. High. M.I.C.K.E.Y. M.O.U.S.E. We play fair, and we work hard, and we're in harmony M.I.C.K.E.Y. M.O.U.S.E. Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mouse) Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mouse) Forever let us hold our banner high (high, high, high) Boys and girls from far and near you're welocme as can be M.I.C.K.E.Y. M.O.U.S.E. Who's the leader of the club that's made for You and me? M.I.C.K.E.Y. M.O.U.S.E. Who is marching coast to coast and far across the sea? M.I.C.K.E.Y. M.O.U.S.E. Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mouse) ...
They are all the same age, same culture and have selected this song as it is something they can all relate too. Lets not forget that the average soldier in this war was a teenager, so this song is also used to depict the loss of innocence of a group of young men. Some of them could have been singing this song in front of a tv 3 years previously.
ok I am army but I don't understand why in this movie at the end they chose the mickey mouse song for the ending of this movie.
