@dragonkeeper19600 you are scareda bout its size, this is fool...size is not the same as strength and danger.Lion is strongest and more dangerous,so lion eat meat, and elephants are vegetarians,it emans the lion owuld kill the elephant instantly.
@SuperGuerreroXY Elephants have plenty of strength and vigor. And just because something is a vegetarian doesn't mean it's not deadly. Tons of species, like hippos, giraffes, water buffalo, kill tons of people every year, and lions are smart enough to avoid them if they can.
@SuperGuerreroXY You're the naive one. Lions have limits like all other animals. No expert is going to tell you that a lion could kill any animal he wanted in seconds. You find me one expert who holds your whacko-absurd view, you can't, so shut up.
"Lions hunting in groups are capable of taking down most animals, even healthy adults, but in most parts of their range they rarely attack very large prey such as fully grown male giraffes due to the danger of injury."
Got that form Wikipedia. Now where's your source telling me that lions are super-powered godlike creatures who can take down anything? I'm waiting.
we forget that we are animals to and all animals feel we act as if they are stupid and clueless btu tis onyl becaus ethye have kept their old ways and we have evolved
no, they actually grieve. there is a preserve in TN and one day an elephant died and they hauled the carcass off thinking it would upset the other elephants. The elephants knew they were missing a friend and went a little nuts. Someone who was well-versed in elephants' behavior told them to put what remained of the dead elephant back into the field. Once all the elephants had a chance to "say goodbye", they stopped acting up.
Has anybody stopped to think that their fascination with the dead body might be because they're trying to work out how it died? If the elephant was shot by a hunter then they might want to take a detour to avoid the hunter, if it died from famine then that indicates a lack of food ahead and maybe they should go elsewhere, etc.
It would require a close inspection of the body to work this out.
It just so upsetting, how many animals are killed by us. Animals have feelings, they feel pain and grief indeed: elephants, dolphins, whales, dogs, cats, chimpanzee. I wish this 140K people would just kick all the illegal hunters. Fortunately, animals rights foundations amount is growing bigger, hopefully it wil bring a significant result as well.
the only reason animals cant and will never speak to us is because their voice box is different. otherwise, they can communicate by other means such as body language.
it's strangely beautiful they are trying to get the scent of their species as a way of paying respects. I am assuming they don't do it to other animal carcasses.
I heard that every animal except humans don't know that they are going to die. Do you know if this is true and if you say yes where are some internet resources, videos, etc. that back your case up?
The best case that would interesting to know about is elephants since elephants mourn their dead. Do they know that they themselves are going to die also?
Elephants brains are large enough and complex enough to be able to comprehend mortality and death the way we do. While it's good to remember not to project our human emotions onto animals, to say they are blank slates without awareness or the ability to grieve or be at least shocked to see one of their own kind dead is rediculous. Remember when people thought babies were born blank slates. Elephants are amongst the most intelligent animals. Whales, humans, primates recognise mortality
Elephants exude excellence. The fact that there are bastards out there who'd kill them for their ivory enrages me to no end. Were I a really wealthy fellow, I'd give money to ensure the animals protection.
I went on an open jeep safari in Kenya and while having a roaring lion about 5 feet away is scary it's nothing compared to getting too close to a baby elephant. Those female elephants are cool but they can be very frightening when they feel their young are being threatened and I love them all the more for their defense of all the babies of the herd, not just their own.
I can't help but think that sniffing the corpse and fondeling (and at one point, tasting) the bones isn't a strong sign of grief. No offence, but it more puts me in mind of CSI of the natural world. Still, elephants are cool with me.
@cb44868 what did you expect you idiot? An elephant crying and grabing a facial tissue while other read the Bible? Uhhh! You wish to have half of the intelligence elephants have...
@TheOlis1983 Chill, dude. This sort of behavior appears more like curiosity than grieving from a human standpoint, so you can't really blame someone for thinking something like that. Very few people can even guess what's going on in an elephant's head, much less another human's.
@zertxer You're saying you know people who would have used human bones they found for training their dogs? Because otherwise, if you mean elephant bones, it's not a good comparison. And respect for the dead has nothing to do with intelligence.
@legion999 It has everything to do with intelligence. To respect the dead you have to have an understanding of mortality, and most animals don't, because they aren't fully self-aware. Elephants have passed the "mirror test", meaning they recognise their own reflections. Very very few animals can do that.
@wratched I was only saying that you can be an extremely intelligent human, solving quantum equations left and right or whatever but you may choose to treat the dead like ordinary carrion. So respect for the dead is probably connected with sentience or self-awareness but not intelligence.
Who decides anyway that animals are devoid of emotions and feelings or intelligence???? Certainly we humans have been privileged as the dominant species but animals are not zombies.
@Drigger96 The crew aren't physically holding the cameras in the super up-close shots. They placed the cameras there before the Elephants arrived and waited.
