actually we cleaned our m16's with a lubricant called LSA it had the feel like machine oil, when i was issued my first m16 after "boot" i joked to another marine and said yep' another fun toy from "MATTEL", i never really cared for the 223 caliber. but i really did like the 308, oh sorry you new corps guys call it the 7.62...semper fi
@MultiBaldEagle I landed at Parris Island on Aug 1st 1978 and Graduated on of all days ...Oct 31st ( Halloween) 1978. Plt 2064 the ol' Singing Second Battalion, I was issued an XM-16 in Bootcamp (prototype) the pins kept popping loose everytime i fired on the range , the armourer replaced the pins but it was no use, that damn thing was worn out
During Vietnam the m16 wasn't all that great in combat but worked well on the range, it had to be well taken care of etc, this all changed when the soldiers were issued cleaning kits then it was more effective in combat. I think that's the story. But yeah the m14 is basically a "beastly pure bread American piece made of wood, iron and cock. "
the early versions of the M16 had problems because of the powder used in the catridge, the chamber was not crome plaited, and troops were told it was self cleaning. the Weapon has to be kept clean, the early problems were corrected and proper maintenance will keep the weapon funtioning properly, in the 1980's an Improved version was introduced the M16-A2
I arrived in Parris Island May 28.1980. all the equipment Uniforms you see were used bake then. the Uniform was called poplen. the M16A1 was the the basic weapon. Maximum rage 460 meter,
nope....m16 is the best...m4 was created...because some people are to short to use the m16...but yea, its easy to jammed but its the best....maybe you mean the AR10...
The AR-10 is an American 7.62 mm battle rifle developed by Eugene Stoner in the late 1950s at ArmaLite...theres an ar10 sniper rifle too, but ar10 is an armalite..The unique features of the AR-10 would eventually be developed into the U.S. Army's M16
The M4 is just a shorter-barreled version of the M16. It has the exact same lower reciever.
The M16 is perfectly reliable, you just have to clean and maintain it properly. It jammed a lot in vietnam because it was promoted as a "self-cleaning" weapon so troops didn't clean them well enough.
the amo they used also clogged up the breech and jammed the gun, that was the biggest cause, it was because they used stick powder instead of the grain powder they designed the gun with.
actually no it's not. Its a shitty weapon if not maintained and taken care of. but a damn good one if properly maintained and taken care of. Although i wish we would go back to an improved version of the M-14.
Due to the fact that they are wearing EDRL camo that was made prior to the introduction of M84 Woodland, I'd have to say this video would have been made in 84 or 85 at the latest. Most likely early 80s
This is old school for sure. My uncle is an old school Marine, the kind of old school when he wore a steel pot helmet and frag vest; the kind of old school when he carried an M-16A1 and a PRC-77 radio as they set foot on Grenada. Semper Fi, Marines!

@oldrumer4u The new M-16 A-4 is so much better and so far ahead of the original M-16, it's almost unbelievable.
What years were you in, and where did you attend Basic?
I was in 1979 - 1986 and attended Basic aboard MCRD Parris Island.
