Wuth this it really looks like one could avoid ntirely screwing up the drawing by inking one eye wrong or whatever, 'cause you can undo, but it looks like it takes much more time than usual inking, or is it just me?
It does probably help a lot to color stuff like Hellboy or Priest, wwith many black areas.
I recently bought a Wacom Bamboo Pen and was wondering if it's absolutely neccessary to have a scanner... or could I just lay my paper sketch over the pad ad then trace from there? :o
@dejasian I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet also, and it doesn't work at all. You can draw over the top but unless you have an A4 bamboo which is bigger than your pc screen then you can't do it.
You can set your tablet to "mouse mode" and try it that way, if you'd like.
At default, your tablet is set to a mode where it replicates your screen, so for example if you click at the top right, you will close or minimize a program.
@lashikogen17 The point of the video was to show us the inking process, not drawing from scratch. I actually came here to see how well manga studio works for this, so the video is what I was looking for. There are plenty of sketching and full art videos on youtube though :)
@tornfairywings6 Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to add my voice at this time. I'll try to work on how to work in color next video . What kind of special effects specifically? Tone effects or...?
@Fullmetalomi Tone effects and those dramatic lines. Also speech bubbles. btw did your material box come empty? Because I don't seem to have any materials in my material box.....
When you enter text, is there a way to edit it like erase some? i want to put text behind a character to be the background because somebody's rambling. how would i go about being able to erase the part covering the character?
@howlerkos you would place the texture layer below whatever layer's make up the character's colors, shadings, lines, etc, in the layers window, then just take the eraser tool and erase inside the character while having the text layer selected in your layers window. sorry if that sounds a little vague.
@howlerkos Easiest way would be to put the text on a separate layer from your character art (doesn't matter if its above or below) so that you can erase without messing up any other lines. Hope that helps.

@howlerkos Forgot about that-- two solutions-- if your text is absolutely correct, right click on the text layer and rasterize it-- it'll become a regular layer. Other solution is to place your text layer under the character artwork and create a new layer sandwiched between the text layer and character art layer-- use white pen on this layer to "erase" the text. This works well if you make a mistake and want to fix the text later.

Photoshop is better at coloring. Screen toning is ok in manga studio. I personally prefer use Painter instade of coloring in photshop, because it's just much easier. Also, there are way much more brushes in Painter.
manga studio actually has the screen tones you see in mangas. the dot patterns that are used as shades and vary in size. It also has speed lines and there is regular coloring
The cheapest touchscreen laptop (also known as a tablet laptop) is the HP touchsmart Tx 1000 series, and that goes for about 800 bucks (on sale) It would definitely be easier, however, it is very expensive. separate Tablets, on the other hand, such as the bamboo fun ($100) are much cheaper, and you get used to the feel of drawing on a seperate device. It's sort of like learning to use your mouse without looking at it.
well, i have the laptop you are talking about, but what sucks about using it for manga studio. is that you cant use the keyboard, you would have to open it up a little/
You should try both. Personally I get a sore wrist like 30 minutes into using a touch screen laptop while I can go on for hours using an A6 tablet.
As far as I'm concerned the smaller the tablet the better as well. Using an A6 you can paint across the entire screen by simply moving your wrist while with an A2 tablet you gotta move your entire arm...
So true. Well my style of drawing is one that's happier with tiny movements of the wrist as opposed to sweeping movements of the arm, so I prefer the small tablet size. Which is great since they're so cheap!
@1annasor1 To me, It's about the tablet. A touch screen feels weird (unless it's a Cintiq. I'll explain). A touch screen feels less sensitive, does not have pressure, and it' seems it has less resolution (stated in DPI) than a tablet. Except if you're talking about a Cintiq screen tablet, which is a screen with pens and it has pressure sensitivity. You may want to heck on Wacom's site, but those are really expensive, for the totally professional dude.
You'd rather buy an actual wacom tablet rather than a tablet pc. It's just not on par with it. The tablet has better pressure sensitivity. With a tablet pc you'd have to do alot of calibration and the quality of the lines is better with wacom tablets. I had bad experience with tablet pc's "touch screen" as you call it. If you want to draw directly on the screen get a cintiq :]. Other good ones are intuos 4 or if short on budget you can get bamboo with touch for 99$ at the wacom site

Totally a tablet is easier to use. I have an HP Touchsmart Desktop, and I tried using the touch screen with Paint Tool Sai and failed. It was really hard to use. I was better off using my Tablet--which I ended up doing.
@1annasor1 dawg, tablet. tablet laptops will get hot fast in your lap but it might just depend on if it has a large display the largest i have seen is a 13''. don't bother just get a tablet.
@1annasor1 Touch Screens can be easier to work on however they cost $2000+ where as a tablet works just fine (might take a day to get used to) and they only cost about $100. Id recommend the Wacome Bamboo (cheap, reliable, and easy to use)
I bought the 3.0 Debut - and was surprised how agonizing the slowness of putting a scratch on the wacom tablet and for the computer to register that scratch on the screen. --- but just watching this video, made me feel better... it's not me, it's the product !!!
I need help in inking. As in, I need someone to tell me whats wrong with my inking and etc. Am i using the wrong pen? Is it the thickness? Please visit my DA account, and i have some comparisons from sketches to line art in there. :) jacare1369
Its a Wacom brand Graphire4 tablet 4inch by 5 inch. Its one of the most basic types created by Wacom. I can assume a beginner can use it- its similar to what I first began with.
Nice! I'm really upset though... i just manga studio last night, but it won;t work! I have vista, the web site says it works for it, but my computer treats it like it's not there! It's annoying... :(
Umm.. I bought it off the website. If you buy them at the store it's all 'not compatible'. The site 'SmithMicro', has it under vista, so if you get it there it should work without a problem! ^O^
Yeah, it's also on the site. Actually, the one for XP is the one they sell in stores. You can find it probably anywhere they sell computer software, like Best Buy, or Staples. Just make sure it's not only for Mac, they have the same box, so you can't really tell without looking at the disk.
Manga Studio (Or the original Japanese 'ComicStudio') is the app best suited for manga-style illustration.
It was designed from the ground up to give manga artists the same results on the computer that they expect with a pen and paper. It also has some incredible features like variable 'Correction' on all the drawing tools which will smooth out or straighten lines, and smooth line widths. It can also handle lossless arbitrary rotations of the page to aid drawing, just like a pad of paper.
heyy, TheBakaChan!! does the variable 'Correction' option allow you to draw like you would in Flash? drawing straight into photoshop makes me cry! me likey the vectors!=)
Wow, you're amazing! I hope if I keep practicing I can be that good!
I want this program now! The lines are so clean! It's amazing! Does anyone know if i can get a trial of the Debut version? (Since it's the one I can afford.)
WOW!!! I love this drawing ( I wish I could draw like you...), If we copare our drawings... I suck... T-T... If you wanna see some I'm mitsukitakuto at Sheezyart... If U can please comment some of them and tell me what should I do to get better, 'kay? ( oh, if you want to... kay?)
How do you get those lines that are so smooth and just like you drew them free handed? When I draw a line , it's just 1 pixel througout the whole line.
is there a way to just draw it in a paper, clean or skeatchy, import it into MS and then just get the inking with out tracing.. i say this becouce i'm doing a comic and i need to get all the lines smooth and clean in less time.
Either my video card exploded or your beginning credits are funky looking

the line bending tool is the curved ruler set to "draw shape" unless you mean the "distort" toll which is just below it on the menu.
To get rid of your sketch lines just make sure you ink on a layer above the sketch then you just ahve to turn off or delete the sketch layer.

What pen are you using for this? I've had the best luck with the Kabura and brush. . .
strawberrykiwiness 3 years ago
did you use a tablet?
theseyi 3 years ago
Everyone uses a digitizer tablet.
A mouse isn't dextrous enough.

you are an incredible artist... was this manga studio ex or debut?
nightsongdw 3 years ago
Nice! I'm really upset though... i just manga studio last night, but it won;t work! I have vista, the web site says it works for it, but my computer treats it like it's not there! It's annoying... :(
FragmentedMemory 3 years ago
are sure you havnt the wrong one?
RedMoonAi 3 years ago
Ah~! I fixed it! Thanks! Yeah, it was the wrong one. =P
FragmentedMemory 3 years ago
glad it got fixed! ^-^
RedMoonAi 3 years ago
which one was it really? I have a vista too and it won't work.
HarryDracootaku 3 years ago
Umm.. I bought it off the website. If you buy them at the store it's all 'not compatible'. The site 'SmithMicro', has it under vista, so if you get it there it should work without a problem! ^O^
FragmentedMemory 3 years ago
do they have one for windows xp homedition, cause i want it but i dont know anything about them.
BlueBreath12 3 years ago
Yeah, it's also on the site. Actually, the one for XP is the one they sell in stores. You can find it probably anywhere they sell computer software, like Best Buy, or Staples. Just make sure it's not only for Mac, they have the same box, so you can't really tell without looking at the disk.
FragmentedMemory 3 years ago
great draw! you are awsome
i poseted the manga studio ex 3.0 registered version

OliveOilProductions 3 years ago
is manga studio better or cs3?
lightpower 3 years ago
Manga Studio (Or the original Japanese 'ComicStudio') is the app best suited for manga-style illustration.
It was designed from the ground up to give manga artists the same results on the computer that they expect with a pen and paper. It also has some incredible features like variable 'Correction' on all the drawing tools which will smooth out or straighten lines, and smooth line widths. It can also handle lossless arbitrary rotations of the page to aid drawing, just like a pad of paper.
TheBakachan 3 years ago
heyy, TheBakaChan!! does the variable 'Correction' option allow you to draw like you would in Flash? drawing straight into photoshop makes me cry! me likey the vectors!=)
thanks!=D
great drawing btw,fullmetalomi!

QuoteMe93 3 years ago
you are very, very good at drawing manga, my compliments, but I want to ask you, did you use a pen tablet to draw this?
12warface12 3 years ago
i think you would need to it is hard otherwise
Elleron77 3 years ago
of course! using a mouse will only bring lackluster results and amateurish sh*t.
atomsk128 3 years ago
Impressive!! *hats off*
kanharu 3 years ago
Wow, you're amazing! I hope if I keep practicing I can be that good!
I want this program now! The lines are so clean! It's amazing! Does anyone know if i can get a trial of the Debut version? (Since it's the one I can afford.)
littlexkyuubix 3 years ago
yes, you can get a trial for this, search demo maga studio in google and you'll find it

ArsiekDHOL 3 years ago
WOW!!! I love this drawing ( I wish I could draw like you...), If we copare our drawings... I suck... T-T... If you wanna see some I'm mitsukitakuto at Sheezyart... If U can please comment some of them and tell me what should I do to get better, 'kay? ( oh, if you want to... kay?)
Eijiluve 3 years ago
How do you get those lines that are so smooth and just like you drew them free handed? When I draw a line , it's just 1 pixel througout the whole line.
Rimdeker 3 years ago
God, I feel so intimidated watching this- it's so far above my level.
wilwarin25 3 years ago
is there a way to just draw it in a paper, clean or skeatchy, import it into MS and then just get the inking with out tracing.. i say this becouce i'm doing a comic and i need to get all the lines smooth and clean in less time.
dragonzith 3 years ago
There is-- but I've never particularly done it.
