  • I love this song and I love Dave, but this song isn't good on acoustic in my opinion. If you have ever seen a concert, then you know that this is usually the song that ends the first part before they come for an encore, and they jaaaam on it. Dave is dancin around, Carter is goin wild on the drums, and its insane. Its just not made for acoustic in my opinion and doesnt do the song justice

  • @tuneificationable Search for the version at Radio City is alot better then this.

  • @tuneificationable i disagree. i think this song is cooler to listen to with the band, but i think the message is more clearly understood in the way he plays it in this version i always got the feel of this being a chill song. i just dont get that feeling from the whole band

  • i was just wondering if i should go... or if i should stay.

  • These are the best lyrics ever written!

  • ~Amazing~

  • If there were any way to turn the music they make together to equally amazing painted art, it would be a masterpiece that makes Van Gogh look like a hack.

  • 3 day dave festival in jersey so pumped

  • @MegaDudarino I will be at the July 8-10 Caravan in Chicago. By the shores of Lake Michigan! Have fun, Dude!

  • never noticed the tom hanks similarity until now. from the angle in this video he looks just like him.

  • dang what a good ending to a great song

  • i miss when dave made music like this

  • @elzepeda AGREED!

  • You know someone is talented when the song has started and they now exactly were to play. And Tim was tuning. Slow down Dave.

  • I've always thought he and Jeremy Piven look alike (Entourage, Smokin Aces).

  • YES!!

  • TIM REYNOLDS!

  • Just found out I'm a Dave Head.

  • @adamatova welcome

  • dave is amazing! i've seen him many times! gets better every time i see him

  • el tim reynolds se sale aqui...

  • this man makes me feel feelings...

  • i love the soft solo.. damn that should replace the "typical" tim fills for the intro.

do do doo.. do do......... do dudadlado do....

sick!! tim is a great of our time. get a look

  • my composition and writing teacher played this song for us in class. he's now my favourite teacher in the world

  • tim killlllls it at the end.. holyyyy shit!! wrigley feild here i come!!

  • great great great stuff

  • Is it a safe assumption that over the last few years Tim Reynolds has made Dave a much better guitar player? :) Just something to think about??????

  • where or how can i download this version?

  • @mamdalinm there's an easy way to rip the video. Keepvid.com lets you download videos to your computer.

  • check out my version of two step

  • amazing song

  • is reynolds playing the bass line?

  • damn his wife is so lucky

  • i was at this show and was the best show i believe i have ever seen...in a tight call between this and EC in Charlotte!!!

  • lie in our graves is one of the easier dave songs to play, plus, flea you spelled "definite" incorrectly.

  • lie in your graves is relatively easy to play- however, its not relatively easy to play it as cleanly and sing with the vocal control that dave has.

  • wow. good version of Two Step. I didn't think that song could get better.

  • Kewl, kewl, kewl! I wish that I could play the guitar like this...I'm grateful that I have hearing.

  • To all who say the music is easy/simple......post a vid of yourself telling us that from the stage of Radio City Music hall in front of a packed house.....

there is more in in than you know if you think it is easy.

  • There are easy DMB songs to play on guitar (Grey Street, Proudest Monkey, etc..) then there are others which are much more difficult (Warehouse, Stone, Billies, etc) To try and quantify Dave's songs as either easy or hard is silly. There is a range of difficulties. And yes, simplicity is not easiness. It's the creation of simplicity which makes the songs so magical (like Proudest Monkey). The music actually fits the idea the lyrics are trying to convey.

  • i liked the two step performance at radio city better

  • wow i'd never thought this song could be played acoustically. wicked good. too much talent between the two of them.

  • WAYYY too much! haha, they are so awesome its hard to express it

  • Oh and, it's hard to do mad solo's and singing at the same time.. don't forget that.

  • Indeed, it's about creating it! Being a copycat is easy..

    dave & time.. respect

  • what string gauge does he use? nice

  • they are great together... and i dont know why people are copmlaning....

dave matthews doesnt write complex music - some of the best art is very simple, in the end our emotions, that which reacts to various forms of art, is quite simple - fear, sadness, love, joy, etc...

no need to be all complicated.

  • none of his songs are easy to play.

  • well that really depends on what you consider easy or hard. for a large portion what tim is doing, and not necessarily in this song, is more complicated. strumming chords, more often then not, is easier the complex finger work on an accoustic. though thats not to say it's all easy - but that brings us back to what we consider easy. Daves part in this song, for me, is very simple.

  • Really good strumming isn't easy. Consistent and accurate muting for a start, is quite an art, which DM does exceptionally well.

  • honestly? lie in our graves is super easy and i tihnk don't drink the water is litterally 1 chord

  • ok if its so easy you come up with a simple song that hits the charts and is one of the the most famous acoustic guitar remodies amongst the modern world. Simple? maybe ..... better than you? definate. What does that make you? ..... shut up dude and enjoy the lyrical beauty of dmb

  • i hope your comment wasnt at me, cuz i all i said lie in our graves is super easy to play, i dunno where you got the whole i tihnk i'm better than dave thing from but ok

  • simple words, complex thoughts. perfection in an overcomplicated world. I totally agree with "FckinGuy"

  • To know to play again a piece is not difficult, the true talent is to create it. And Dave is great for that

  • Finally someone who thinks like i do!

  • We are so lucky to live during DMB's era. I just can't wait until he's inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He deserves it as much as anybody. Truly talented musician/songwriter.

  • Exactly, with so much crap music these days DMB is soooo amazing!

  • Well... Dave's part is easy anyway. Tim is just ridiculous.

  • yea this song is hard to learn but once you get the chords right it's easy to play.

It only took me about two days to learn it

  • same case with me

  • To know to play again a piece is not difficult, 2 days is very long for this song man; but the true talent is to create it. And Dave is great for that. What did you create man?

  • I got to know Dave, because of my girlfriend(now wife). No wonder I fell in love with her...

  • Comment removed

  • @CadenWolves This reminds me of a girl. yours is a turn that our relationship never took.

  • @CadenWolves dude leave her and marry dave :D

  • @CadenWolves

I think he just has one of those faces. At times he looks like Jeremy Piven or Christopher Wolstenholme (the bass player for Muse).

  • my heart bursts.....so good.....

  • Killer version!!

    ~peace~

  • sometimes songs are just perfect.

  • some guitar player inspire you to wanna play, some show that you'll always suck in comparison. This is one that makes me wanna give and say what the fuck am i doing trying to play a guitar in the first place. this is fuckin great, if there's a god i'm pissed that i didn't get bestowed talent like this.

  • has nothin to do with god, not in dave's case anyway, maybe tim haha

  • Do you not think Dave has talent? The song he writes are amazing. Just because Dave plays rhythm doesn't mean he doesn't have talent...

  • i think dave has talent coming out of his ass. god has nothing to do with the fact that he can write good songs. thats what i was getting at

  • Gotcha ^_^ I thought you meant Dave had no talent. I was gonna be like BLASHPEMY!!!!!!

  • This is a decent version, but I totally love the bass line on this song.

  • Talk about guitaristic skills ! They nailed it ! The part that goes from 5.50 til the end when they start strumming chords like bonkers is totally rad ! kicks some serious butt!

Thanks for posting this up !

    Peace

  • "You came to me like wine comes to this mouth/Grown tired of water all the time/You quench my heart & oh you quench my mind."

    WOW!

  • Dave and Tim are fucking awesome...Great Video.....Dave's the man.Tim is Key.....Anyone who Hate's Dave must not like music....They have no taste at all...And have no right to post anything about Dave ..They should be banned from youtube.....Keep Jammin

  • right on!

  • Fuck. This is my porn.

  • for anyone who thinks that dave matthews sucks try and play that rythm on guitar and sing over it...not easy at all you gotta respect the guy even if you dont like the music

  • I agree. This is one of the toughest songs to hold the rhythm and sing over. Well, Dreaming Tree in 7/8 time is near impossible, but yeah, this is skill....

  • This version of Two Step is so amazing, I don't think you will ever find better acoustic guitar players than Dave and Tim

  • i do^^

  • does anyone else think that dave looks like a musical tom hanks

  • Haa! been thinking that for years. I'm glad you said it!

  • me tambien

  • @rocky1399 absolutely haha... more specifically forrest gump

  • you ae not alone, my friend LOL

  • @rocky1399

More like a musical Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory...

  • @rocky1399 - YES!!!! I'm finally not the only one!!!

  • @rocky1399 LOL one of my freinds thinks that too. I don't personally but It's weird that your saying it too.

  • @rocky1399 I personally think he looks more like Buddy 'Aces' Israel from Smoking Aces.

  • @rocky1399 yes!!! good call rock

  • @rocky1399 i think he kinda looks like kevin spacey

  • @rocky1399 Tom hanks looks like an acting dave

  • @Cody133753 : Touche! I just posted (similar) sentiments before reading your comment. I guess it's just confirmation

  • @rocky1399 : I think Tom Hanks looks like a nonmusical Dave Matthews.

  • @illisanantexico or Adam sandler....

  • @rocky1399 LMFAO. You are right.

  • @rocky1399 actually i match him with sheldon from big bang

  • watch daves face from 6:05 till the end

its awesome to see how into the music he gets and how good he knows that him and tim sound. hes purely enjoying himself out there its really cool

  • i am sorry but this is a good version but i deff think the one at radio city is the best all time i mean the ending is frinking awsome!

  • pinkmgc, after i watched this, my first thought was "that was the best version of two step ever" took the words right out of my mouth,

    onelove.

  • i agree

  • slip up in the first verse :p

  • potentially one of the better songs written with absolute pure and absolute passion.

what a great piece of music.

Live with ay size crowd has the ambience that challenges any band.

  • wonderful description my friend ~ easily the most powerful song written by matthews, and with reynolds it becomes extraordinary... stay or leave would be second in my humble opinion.

  • i agree on both counts

  • Dave will always have a career. We haven't seen songwriting as strong as his in decades.

  • its just so awesome to watch Dave perform, even solo in 93 before he was really famous. He just gets so much done, with his playing and great singing always + our favorite songs!! Thank god for these youtube clips, cause these moments should be shared.

  • probably the best acoustic version of two step ever...

  • Comment removed

  • Perfection

  • or whatever that word means.

    but its definately that

  • this is my favorite song

  • I love the acoustic version... it's the best!

  • dave

  • Thanks for uploading

    Amazing crazy version! lovely!

  • Loooove it....!!

  • did anyone else notice dave's little mess up around 1:29.he covered up pretty nicelys but he he went to a D-minor rather than an A# type of chord

  • The firs time i heard this song my friend was picking me up from my house and we insantly loved it! we balasted it soo low that are frineds in the other car acrass the street could hear it! ^-^

  • turn down the music and open that grammar book please...haha just kidding... me am love song two this

  • Up Shut!!! LOL

  • i thought this was one of the best ones. they sound great

  • I like it.

  • I'm gonna have to say that overall, it was a pretty hollow performance. I couldn't get into it, cuz I felt Dave and Tim weren't really feeling it. Just me, though. I have seen better acoustic ferformances of this song.

  • Dave is always feeling it...Its an acoustic version. different performance

  • There are many, many acoustic versions of this song performed by Dave and Tim. This version isn't as good as some of them, I have to admit, but it's always a pleasure nonetheless.

  • totally agreed... their album version is the best i think...

  • But man you got to admit the song is pretty sweet
