Hey Jeffe, Love this video...Thanks so much for posting! Check out video of you called Fishtails Backwards...finally got around to posting it. Remember this one! Hope to see you again soon! Cherie
You know what its like rowing a Snout boat? Its like rowing a snout boat .Ha ha That brought back memories of rowing 2 tube snouts in the section below Diamond quite a while back. I was doing lower Grands for a company that couldn't afford motors for all their snout boats. They may be big, but least they're not maneuverable.
I put on a private trip that lauched the day before they closed the canyon that summer. It was with John Parsons and Randy Fabares from Flagstaff, I was one of 4 kayakers on the trip. We had a paddle raft and a motor rig. Big fun trip. There was some video footage that some people had but I have lost mine, you might try to contact those guys or possible Steve Daniel, a kayaker from Texas to see if they still have the footage, he is college professor at Texas A and M I believe. Tim R
Thanks...and btw; look again; that wasn't ledges camp...that was the Havasu eddy (river level is near the level where the trail curls into the canyon...J
Oh good, I read your description and see this IS for RGTS. The music adds a lot and is well-timed with the great Lava footage. What kind of camera in 1983? Like that slo-mo editing, too. Wonderful job!
I went down the American River at low level which was a ride and a half. Cannot imagine this one!! I finally knew why everyone loves rivers! Great video. WHOOOEEEE!
ATTENTION ALL GRAND CANYON ENTHUSIASTS: I'm currently working on an updated version of this video. Stay tuned! (July 2011)

So the Ledge Hole was gone in Lava?
When we ran it later that summer you could have recirculated a bus in the hole. Maybe not a Greyhound. But certainly a school bus.
We were possibly the first small boats thru the right side of Lava. (12 & 16 ft).
I say that because after we scouted Lava a motorboat pulled up. The boatman got off and said:"Gonna run left?"
We"No we're running right."
Boatman: "Quick let me get my camera" and went running back to his boat.
Love to see those photos.

We will never see that again. Great footage of Tour West rig in Crystal. And camping up on the ledges.

Don't count on that.
Glen Canyon Damn is doomed. Bad Karma and a very bad place to put a damn.
Damn sandstone.
