Maybe they did not tell you in your free european country that only in Belarus fashists fired 9200 villages and about 5300 of them were fired with people. 138 of belarussian villages were fired with latvian divisions SS, they killed about 17000 civilians in Belarus only.
The story about Latvian Waffen-SS soldiers being volunteers was a part of Nazi propaganda. It's as absurd as claiming that Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz were actually tourists and had a nice little swimming pool there.
If the Latvian "volunteers" refused to join the Nazi military, they were sent to concentration camps or forced labor batallions in the front-lines, facing almost certain death.
There were war criminals on both sides. No one's defending the tiny fraction of murderers.

So you were together with civilisated Europe in that time too. But there were examples of other behaivor. Look at Yugoslavia, german nazies had to keep 37 divisions there from the wide partisan war. I just wanted to say people always have choice.
There is another fundamental aspect to all of this and it is also the reason why there wasn't a large scale partisan war against Nazis - it's the first Soviet occupation of Latvia from 1940 til 1941. Just as an example, approx. 30 000 people were deported to Siberia. To compare, proportionally to the population of modern day Russia, that would equal to roughly 2 200 000 Russians being deported.
Because of these repressions, there was a strong anti-Soviet sentiment. A part of Latvians saw the Nazis as a way of getting rid of the Soviets. There were very widespread illusions in the society that it would be possible to fight off the Nazis after defeating the Soviets. But it never had anything to do with sympathies against Nazism, there were none and there are none today. Collaborators made up a very small minority of Latvians, just like in Russia, Norway or anywhere else.

But in generally if you did choice wrong side and supported regime which had the purpose to kill people for maintenance of german lebensraum you should not think you are hero or fighter for freedom. The unit responsible for Holocaust and the burning of Belarusian villages was the Latvian Auxiliary Police. Holocaust in Latvia had ended long before the formation of the Waffen-SS divisions, which are the only ones being commemorated in Latvia.

There are no processions of SS veterans. There are processions of Waffen-SS veterans, who were forcefully conscripted after 1943. There's a huge, fundamental difference there. I don't think it's that hard to understand. There's SS. There's Waffen-SS. There's the Holocaust, carried out by SS volunteers and Nazis. And then there's the war, where Waffen-SS soldiers were simply the slaves of Hitler, just like the Jews.

Maybe they did not tell you in your free european country that only in Belarus fashists fired 9200 villages and about 5300 of them were fired with people. 138 of belarussian villages were fired with latvian divisions SS, they killed about 17000 civilians in Belarus only.

The story about Latvian Waffen-SS soldiers being volunteers was a part of Nazi propaganda. It's as absurd as claiming that Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz were actually tourists and had a nice little swimming pool there.
If the Latvian "volunteers" refused to join the Nazi military, they were sent to concentration camps or forced labor batallions in the front-lines, facing almost certain death.
There were war criminals on both sides. No one's defending the tiny fraction of murderers.

There is another fundamental aspect to all of this and it is also the reason why there wasn't a large scale partisan war against Nazis - it's the first Soviet occupation of Latvia from 1940 til 1941. Just as an example, approx. 30 000 people were deported to Siberia. To compare, proportionally to the population of modern day Russia, that would equal to roughly 2 200 000 Russians being deported.

Because of these repressions, there was a strong anti-Soviet sentiment. A part of Latvians saw the Nazis as a way of getting rid of the Soviets. There were very widespread illusions in the society that it would be possible to fight off the Nazis after defeating the Soviets. But it never had anything to do with sympathies against Nazism, there were none and there are none today. Collaborators made up a very small minority of Latvians, just like in Russia, Norway or anywhere else.

The primary reason for this belief is that only less than 25 years ago the very independence of Latvia was won in this exact same manner. We fought against the Russian Empire and the Soviets along with Germans, but after defeating the Russians...

There are no processions of SS veterans. There are processions of Waffen-SS veterans, who were forcefully conscripted after 1943. There's a huge, fundamental difference there. I don't think it's that hard to understand. There's SS. There's Waffen-SS. There's the Holocaust, carried out by SS volunteers and Nazis. And then there's the war, where Waffen-SS soldiers were simply the slaves of Hitler, just like the Jews.

Could there be a less important argument then who invented the christmas tree? Personaly I must say that cutting down a perfectly happy little tree just so it can be dragged into the home, wrapped with foreign objects including wire with electricity rushing though it, then discarded like so much trash soon afterwords is nothing to argue over. The christmas tree is quite simply the tree that died for nothing at all.

Now prior to that the arabs were into something called persian mythology. Hopefully you are not including the idolatry of the catholic church with REAL bible believing/reading Christians. With that being said, I agree that these idolatry traditions began in Babylon, way before the European traditions. Jeremiah 10 of the old testament is very clear in describing the christmas tree tradition. Jeremiah lived around the time 600 BC and was alive during Babylonian occupation, in Israel. The people in this vid need to read Jeremiah 10. Peace.

What is known as Cristmas tree in the West and New Year's tree in Russia, is a pagan custom, symbolizing the never ending spring and the hope of new growth. Decorating evergreen trees in the winter was a pagan custom, performed probably for many millenia before any Balts, Germans, or any other contemporary nation even existed. Later, it was borrowed by Christians and turned into part of Christmas celebration to attract the die hard pagans.
