i agree with pinglia the technology is there sadly we live in aworld run by profit not through ethical sustainable growth. With tidal geothermal and solar we can create more free safe energy than we can currently use. the only reason it is not pushed through is due to our institutianlised monetory system that revolvs around debt . Even NASA has resources to do just as much harm as they can good. The horse and buggy is more of a religious aspect, which so many have not learned about. @pinglia If we don't speed up our research to GM food we'll run out of food at 2050 and the numbers of people will slowly decrease. This will decrease the use of energy aswell so the release of greenhouse gases will be reduced. However, if we manage to feed the human population so the human population will grow further, global warming isn't gonna stop and we'll heat things up pretty bad before the next ice age. When the next ice age arives humans will probably die anyway though..

I dont think it is too late, yet... but you are absolutely right, the planet is going in the wrong direction... Our planet can recover, but we need to end our dependence on fossil fuels, but that requires us to find a new fuel source... One we have yet to do... personally i think the prospects of nuclear fusion as being the ultimate fuel, but it requires more research... we should be treating our energy crisis like we do cancer.. here it is not a cancer that effects us but it effect our planet

Sorry about the long msg..... but Scientists do know that our plants warming is a non-liner system. This is important because we humans are a reactive species not proactive, therefore we wait for something to happen before we just to action. The earth being a non-linear gives us warnings of the harm we are doing in sudden jolts, the next big one is comming and hopefully we will wake upp... but i belive the time before it is too late is not far away

Oh please, technologies never die. I suppose you're referring to sustainability. Well, the whole idea of space colonization is to address that problem. And obviously, as the need arises, more sustainable and efficient technologies will be invented. You can't just expect technology to simply go away, and the "technological civilization" to just end, it's part of being human to invent new technologies.
