I'm building a HTPC with a SSD hd on the boot partition, Sata for storage, do you know of any Graphics cards that will allow HDMI in and out (pass through) which intern will allow me to create a desktop with tickers, weather and new while also incorporate my live tv signal (HDMI out of my HD sat box) within a PnP box with the ability to record 1080i? Similar to the Business new network? does this exist?
@nervouss I'm not sure about your exact requirements but I recommend any newer Nvidia graphics card. Utilize VDPAU for playback and that will leave your CPU plenty of power to do other things.
@PatrickLArchibald Thanks for the response, one question since the Card is doing the work, Will a P4 3.4 be enough to provide 1080p? What is the min cpu for 1080p?
@nervouss With VDPAU enabled playback your CPU does very little. Your CPU will sweat when it does commercial flagging. Commercial flagging is optional and it runs in the background. P4 3.4 should be fine.
Yes, you need Mythtv, specifically a Myhtv Backend that runs all the tunner cards & such. You can do it all on one machine if you want but it's quite common to have "big box o' disks n' tuners" in a cupboard somewhere hooked in to the LAN feeding the frontends.
Mythtv kicks all kinds of ass but by god it can be a swine to set up.
What capture device are you using for Hi Def? Could you burn to BluRay if you had a burner hooked up? I am considering the Hauppauge HD-PDR, along with a couple of their standard def tuner cards...opinions? Awesomw setup, by the way
@jondcarson52 Thanks! I'm using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card to capture video and audio. It works pretty good on Ubuntu 10.04. You need a beefy computer. I have an AMD quad core CPU.
Can you help me setup mythbox?
What do I fill when it asks for host name and port ?
