  • i can tell by the plug that you are, A HUMAN MAN. and i just pooped my pants listening to that soundtrack for five minutes.

  • for a carbon eletrode could you break open a pencil and use the graphite in it or will that not work?

  • Sorry, but by using iron electrodes, your solution will mainly consist of FeSO4. Iron isn't noble enough for being anode, even Cu isn't because you want water to be oxidized to oxygen at the anode so you can get H+ ions.

    You want this oxidation:

    2 H2O -> O2 + 4 H(+) + 4 e(-) |E0 = +1,23V

    but you get this oxidation:

    Fe -> Fe(2+) + 2 e(-) |E0 = -0,44V

because for oxidation reactions, the reaction with the lower potential is the most likely to happen (reductions are the other way around).

  • @bla287 Thank you for the comment. Yes, sorry about that, but notice, this video was uploaded in 8.2.2010, what is nearly 2 years ago, when I knew shit about chemistry. Lol, actually today, right now, I´m making a remake for this video (with copper and carbon electrodes) in HD so please, be sure to subscribe my channel and I promise, that the result will be much better. Maybe I´ll make a new intro for my videos too. :)

  • looks a little comtanimated

  • @iskatelikeanoob This experiment is going to be revisited, so please subscribe, i will make a remake of this video in HD and it will be much better !

  • ATTENTION DUMB ASSES! copper sulfate is a copper solution! whats is higher up on the patriotic table? IRON-steel in this case. so the tiny bits copper in the solution will condense against the IRON. making it look like rust. and the yellow liquid is just the remainder of the solution. WARNING! DO NOT PLAY WITH ELECTRICITY! YOU CAN BE KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED!

  • does this acid lose strength over time? could i keep it in a jar for a few months? and if i got this on my face...would it do real damage?? ( plz answer)

  • can I use 230 v ac 60hz ?

  • With a large lead (dioxide) anode, current density could be improved, and resistance lessened.

  • Also, why not use a lead, or rather, a lead dioxide anode instead of messing around with graphite? The surface of a piece of lead flashing could probably be satisfactorily prepped by oxidizing it to lead dioxide, first running it as an anode in a saturated Na2SO4 bath for a while. Lead just seems more ideal for this purpose since it is commonly used in lead acid batteries. It seems to have favorable properties when used in H2SO4. Lead sulfate is insoluble, and the dioxide inert to H2SO4.

  • I'm not even sure if my method would work; that is, the precipitation of soap, by raising the pH of the Na2SO4 solution with NH4OH, and using the ethanol as a solvent and phase transfer medium for the (solid at room temp) stearic acid. If this method did work, it would use cheap raw materials, and the soap formed could be recycled by converting it back to stearic acid with a cheap, OTC acid like vinegar. Just an idea I came up with but never tested.

  • I have an idea for making CuSO4: (1) synthesize Na2SO4 from gypsum and washing soda; (2) dissolve formed Na2SO4 in 2x molar equivalent of NH4OH solution; (3) add stoichiometric amount of stearic acid (in relation to Na), after first dissolving it in enough ethanol to keep fatty acid liquid at RT; (4) Stir, then remove "soap," which should form, & float on top of the aqueous layer, where the fatty acid was; (5) React (NH4)2SO4 solution w/ CuO; (6) Heat tetraammine CuSO4 to drive off NH4 gas.

  • can i use the charcoal as the electrode?

i use those charcoal sticks for drawing.

  • Comment removed

  • This wont work. Iron from nails is just replacing copper from solution like this

    Fe(s)+CuSO4(aq)=Cu(s)+FeSO4(aq)

To make this work use graphite electrode or any other electrode that is plated with precious metals.

PS: Graphite works but it will go to the solution. You need to filter solution and get graphite powder floating in the solution out. The best electrode is from platinum.

  • If i let the electrodes more time, the concentration of the H2SO4 will increase?

  • this is great. got a question. if you want to use these chemicals in another stats but are permitted to own them in your state can you transfer them into another state legally.

  • this is not sulfuric acid.

  • why not work?? Please answer me!

  • @ChemExperimentalist It's not working !!.I got a yellow smoky liquid and cooper , but the liquid is not H2SO4 because I tested on my hand :D!!!

  • @0097stefan If it´s not working, you probably used wrong electrodes. What electrodes did you use (carbon is the best) ?

  • @ChemExperimentalist Where can I take carbon???????????????

  • @0097stefan You can find the carbon electrodes in Carbon-zing battery.

  • @ChemExperimentalist sorry, *carbon-zinc battery

  • @ChemExperimentalist The soundtrack is so stupid. The whole video is stupid anyways.

  • @araimundo1 Okay i agree with you. I´m going to make a remake for this video in HD. So please be sure to subscribe.

  • @ChemExperimentalist The carbon electrode in the battery is the Carbon Rod? (found an image in wikipedia with structure of carbon-zinc battery)

  • @0097stefan Thanks!! I tried with graphite but it's melted.

  • @0097stefan Open a pencil and you will find just what you need

  • hopefully someone knows an answer for me i make copper sulfate and zinc sulfate by making a weak solution of sulfuric acid by mixing sodium bisulfate into distilled water until no more disolves after these experiments i wanted stronger sulfuric acid so i made my sodium bisulfate and boiled it down and set it aside well i wanted it stronger so i boiled way down to almost no liquid left and i let it cool when i checked back on it it had crystallized into really sharp crystals what are the crystals

  • @HUsoldier171 The crystals you have are sodium bisulfate. When you boiled down the solution you took away a lot of the water so there wasn't enough water to hold all the sodium bisulfate so some of it crystallizes out. And when you mix sodium bisulfate with water you don't get sulfuric acid but a solution that shares many of the properties of dilute sulfuric acid.

  • so how do you get the copper sulfate? please reply! :)

  • music sucks.

  • качество ебанутое

  • jimmy was a chemist now he is no more, what he thought was H2O was H2S04!

  • Why don't they play this music in school while doing labs?

  • @nickrohn93 Because mine school playing michael jackson music while we are in labs ;D

  • Thank you for how to make it. Its muck simpler them the other kind of of metals like nurd rage. Im a young chemist.

  • Go to nurdrage

    or search...

Make Sulfuric Acid (Copper Sulfate Electrochemical Method)

    (better video)

  • strong home kitchen lab is strong =)

  • I have a question, does it works if i use copper sulfate II or III

  • Great video! I just have a few questions:

In your opinion, is this experiment REALLY dangerous?

About how old do you think you should be to do this experiment

    (based on safety?)

Finally, where do you get Copper Sulfate (what shop, product?)

  • billy was a chemist

but now he is no more

    what he thought was H2O

    was H2SO4

    HEY!

  • wow this is great!

but i dont have CuSO4 (blue vitriol), but i do have sulfur it self.. in crystal form... can i make acid with that?

    plz answer, thank you!

  • @a1b2c3z44 it is possible but i guess you cannot

  • hehehe a coffee filter and a funnel..i was expecting a kitchen strainer.. smart kid doing it in your own damn kitchen, nice job..now all i effin need is copper sulfate and the electric equipment...but yeah the guys right, you can't use the nails for this, it just doesn't work well..it makes an acid im sure, but the compound that the nails are made up of gets broken down and added into the mix

  • so how strong is the concentrated, like eat thru rubber strong? because I use rubber all the time, and I need something to take it off my equipment, I'd buy some. depending on the price.

  • hey if i want to make a bigger quantity should i increase the voltage

  • how much copper sulfate powder do you use

  • were those roofing nails?

  • What is the output of your adaptor ?

  • @InTheMiddle95 9 volts.

  • @ChemExperimentalist

why does it need to be 9 volts, or is there no need for that, can i make this with 3,7 or 4,8 volts?

  • ok nice tut , i have some questions , so the solution left is Sulfuric acid ? and what do you do with the brown stuf left ? also what are you going to do with Sulfuric acid ? where is it used for ? please reply back i hae to know

  • @zakamooza sulfuric acid is a powerful acid. It is a cleaner, used for metal purification and, as I use it for, getting through that pesky padlock.

  • @zakamooza sulfuric acid is a powerful acid. It is a cleaner, used for metal purification and, as I use it for, getting through that pesky padlock. I'd keep it on you at all times. Just in case.

  • Isn't this the song from the matrix reloaded during the car chase scene?

  • @HowToHacks90 Yes it is :)

  • this is so intnse

  • use proper lab instruments lah...use popper filter funnel, electrode, filter paper and USE A BEAKER FOR EASY ACESS

  • @iamsogood9901 He's too poor

    dont make fun :D

  • Intense! YOU ARE A MAD SCIENTISTS!

  • Im so pumped I could watch a 'movie

    plus are u swiss?

  • Could I make it by dissolving 1/8 mole (20 grams) of CuSO4 in 104 ml of water and preform electrolysis to make 1/8 mole (12 grams) of H2SO4 dissolved in 102ml of water to make 8.5% H2SO4. Please correct me if this is incorrect also which do you think is more dangerous, 10% H2SO4 or 31% HCl(aq)?

  • NOT

  • sulfuric acid does not react with the paper filter?

  • and i am doing one litter at a time what volt's should i use..

  • @27simber i havent done it but im pretty sure the lower the current the less the anode will reduce. any will work im pretty sure

  • @27simber why would you waste time to produce sulphuric acid, when you can readily obtain it from auto shops. It is the electrolyte for lead batteries. Probably it is not too expensive

  • @nick1f i think that is more funny to obtain it whit this metod. don't you think so? :D

  • can you use copper pipe and lead for the electrodes

  • @27simber yes

  • what are the nail's made from.

  • nice plastic bag gloves XD

  • but came a slut, sulfuric acid is impure should be distilled from a flask Tailed to remove impurities of iron sulphate and copper sulphate, can not 'be a reagent consederato real

  • sulfuric acid is some nasty shit , if you get it on bare skin you're fucked....

  • Dude, what's with the music? :D It's not like you are making a nuclear bomb or anything like that :D

  • I like the music :)

  • Music is from the matrix 2 and your getting nothing else than iron sulfate LOL. Actually u don't need the electrodes in order to get copper , it's being reduced naturaly by iron metal.

  • uh OK I'm gonna make lots of hydrochloric acid once Ive made my sulfuric acid thanks i got 25kg's of Copper sulfate!!

  • very dramatic music, I liked it....a bit like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ((((-:

  • @24moskito24 It's called Mona Lisa Overdrive, from The Matrix Reloaded soundtrack.

  • Hey hey come on guys at least he is making videos. Some of you people are jut an empty account. And its not possible to not copy someone these days.....

  • the finished product kinda looks like cum

  • lol that is not sulfuric acid fag

  • you get not sulfuric acid but iron sulfate. your reaction is CuSo4 + Fe= FeSo4 + Cu

    If you use carbon and cooper electrodes youll get CuSo4 + H2o= Cu + H2So4 + O2

  • If you use metallic nails they will reacts with the sulfuric acid,in fact your solution is brown -yellow because there's a big quantity of iron sulfate

  • This video is from Nurdrage... NOT your original

  • Nice vids bro

  • Yes, i said in description, use another electrodes and NurdRage method is the best - use platina or titanium electrodes... And it's not stolen, i just tried the nurdrage method how to make it.

  • @ChemExperimentalist does it work?

  • @ChemExperimentalist tnx you simplify it so i can do it

  • also have you even tested this is sulphuric acid because if you these are iron nails you are getting iron sulphate i swear you have to use a carbon and or platinum anode

  • stolen by nurdrage
