i couldn't help but think of this movie and particularly this great ending while watching Black Swan. and I can tell you this 30 second finale performance was 100x times more fulfilling than Black Swan's ending.
its like so emotional for me - i feel like i am this little kid - always dancing and the growing up beeing in musical school and stuff - as my own story - love billy elliot
This part of the movie still actually makes me want to cry, it doesn't even matter if I haven't watched the rest of the movie before it. Brilliant climax to a brilliant film
Does anyone think though, (and this is nothing against this scene), that they should in a couple years' time remake this scene using Jamie and all the original actors for the characters?! Just for kicks you know? ;P <3
He says many times in the movie: "Just because I do ballet doesn't mean that I am gay (he doesn't say gay but i don't remmember)" "I'm not gay"
It's true... He didn't want nothing with Debbie... but that doesn't mean anything... And the kiss he gave to his friend... I think all of that it's a game made by the Director for the people to question themselves. (sorry about bad english)
@Hallamfoebell are you serious man? The whole movie was about him fighting against his father and stereotypes of male ballet dancers being gay and becoming what he wants to be regardless. He even says in the film "dancing's not just for poofs you know."
@KingTrebla Yeah I remember that. But he allowed his friend to put his hands on his naked skin remember? If Billy was firm in his beliefs he wouldnt have striked that boy who tried to comfort him not in a sexual way in a it will be ALL right.
have you ever been to Easington where the movie was made its amazing such poverty - I got lost & felt threatened as I was driving a mondeo sum rich bich but a stunningly beautiful vista

billy's dad has always reminded me of mine. A bit aggressive and protective of himself and his masculinity, but from day 1 has broken his back to provide for me and my brother and continues to sacrifice himself for us even now that I've started college. I'll always be in debt to him... and watching this ending always hits me..
it's such a touching story, and when the older billy jumps out for the first time, the viwer can see that his dad accepts him being a ballet dancer and is proud of him xD
I watched this when I was too young to really appreciate all of this movie's elements, but now that I'm older...this scene is just indescribably beautiful. It may have been the most touching climax scene I ever watched.
