  • This is a great performance and stands on its own. Srgio was alway a little commercial, but a great artist, who always gives more to the music than he takes.

Jobim's 1986 version of this is the "swinginist."

  • Fantastic composition and arrangement. Thanks for posting.

  • who is the new girl (black) she is nice

  • not so good..only good for gringos....

  • After all your troubles, this is the re-birth!

  • beautiful

  • The later english version, by Jobim performed eg in 1986 really isnt that different, except maybe for the keys. This version definately lives up to what Jobim himself might have liked :) I really prefer Sergios vocals in this one too :)

  • go with the flow, everyone who loves this english version should listen in portuguese to see the true beauty of this song

  • great in english, best in portuguese. jobim and regina did it best. muito bom!

  • This is a cool arrangement especially for Americans. We love Sergio and his (always) beautiful singers. All star lineup of Brazilian players also. The Elis / Tom arrangement doesn't really groove.

  • "terimakasih"..

  • Is just as good in english, done right it works just as fine.

  • Brava!!

  • Brvava!

  • It isn't quite Lani and Janice, but it is very good and highly evocative of the original Brazil '66. Sergio's arrangement is every bit as good as in those days.

  • ...itz the mud...itz the mud.

  • The five string bass player is playing some cool licks in this video...the fifth string is one fifth lower than a regular bass...and it sounds really cool...

  • I have much love for the slower tempo, I'm good with it done both ways. Yes, Tom and Elis is the definitive version of this song but guys, Tom and Elis are DEAD, Sergio is still out there bringing this great music to new audiences. Gotta give it up to him for that.

  • @wgfinley - Yes, you are right. Sergio and those great musicians really captured the spirit of this song. These girls did a magnificent job on this. It is worthy of Brasil '66.

  • who is the drummer?

  • But their vocal tones are flaaaaaaat! No bounce.

  • @FlorisK93 i could imagine em goin lesbian! =P

  • its excellent, if it wasn't for Sergio,... alot of other Brazillian songs and songwriters would still live in anonimity.

  • @TheOsseous So true.

  • does anyone else find the 2 girls hot and attractive?

does anyone know the names of the ladies?

  • @yoshimitsuification I find the 2 girls also hot, sexy and attrective! I also want to know the names of them... if you know, can you let me know?

  • does anyone else find the 2 girls hot and attractive?

  • damn, the brazilian version is much better. for example elis regina.

  • yankees, please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO HOME¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡. viva LATINOAMERICA.

  • Traumhaft. Die sanfte Stimme von Sergio passt wunderbar zu den beiden Frauenstimmen.

  • it's a little too slow. a forward time feeling would be better

  • @cavoglavi no way, man, it's almost too bfast

  • Listen to Boney James do this on his "Shine" CD! Awesome !

  • It's one of the best Sergio Mendes rendition of A C Jobim songs... It's superb.. I like it...You want to listen this jazz over over again....

  • No one does Jobim like Sergio Mendez.

  • This song talks about theconsequences and issues about the Fall season in Central/northeastern Brazil. It happens during March/April/May. During that season, water is everywhere due to frequent rains and flooded rivers. The song lyrics mentions on problem after another one, despite the joy the water brings.

The lyrics lines are hard to memorize, it doesn't reapeat. It's 3 points thing: the swing, the lyrics and the beat. Not basic chords. It starts with Ab9/ Bb

  • But we can't deny that Sergio Mendes was an important man in the Brazilian music cause, with mixtures like those, he popularized the Bossa Nova even in Brazl, where the rythm is almost dying. With "Mas que nada", young people here started listening to Bossa Nova and now this rythm is growning up again.

  • I feel as though I've just shared a Brazilian secret...everyone is so happy. Beautiful song...thx

  • GREAT ,Sounds even better live ,Mario

  • it's nice to hear TERIMA KASIH, means THANK YOU in Indonesia. Viva Brazilian Music !!

  • amei o samba;tbm essa musica é linda d+++

  • @Villioneto what??? course it is a brazilian song!

  • it is great in German too... a kind of children song: ein Hund, eine Katze und ei-eine Maus....

  • @astuliakiki lol i am thinkin about it in german now i wont stop until i can hear it.

  • ..this song means everything, but nothing, it is

abstract and interprets an inability to pay attention for any length of time...this is the hyper

active and ADD song of the century, but the rythmn is something that will capitivate you all day long.....just keep in mind....'it's the mud, it's the mud'...

  • @jonieheffner hahaha niceee lol@ add song o the century

  • Great version, always prefer the orginal Brazilian version.

  • I was there! @ Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2007 !

  • ...it's the mud, it's the mud.

  • Great song in any language! Portuguese, English, Mandarin, Swahili, Navaho... it just doesn't matter.

  • The greatest Brazilian song of all time! Love listening to it over & over & over again!

    Mendes does it really well.

  • This is not a brazilian song :) The original is french. Its a song of George Moustaki.

  • @Villioneto ARE YOU OUT OF THIS WORLD?

  • Its cool to hear portuguese with accent ... thanks for the video footage..

  • "Águas de março" would be the correct... and I just think that entire brazilian version is way better...

  • @Markwhz ...i agree, it was made by a brazilian, and a brilliant braziian, it would

be hard to imagine this without the

    the bossa jazz fusion.

  • MARSO????????? Oh my god, you destroyed a language with just one word!

    Very great song!

  • @brunoresende29

For real---I heard this when I was a kid---always wondered who the heck it was---finally found out that it was Sergio Mendes, whose music I had come to love by then,as well as being the first version of this song I ever heard--it is beautiful and thoughtful, as well as funky and cool as hell---especially if you like Jobim's music and Brazilian music in genera---which I do and love!

  • Pride of Brazil

I fell in love with this music when I first heard it as a child

  • serigo one great latin musicians love this music bring back memorys when ever i go to brazil

  • Where's Grazinha? Not the same without her voice!

  • In Portuguese please!!!

  • Clasical song fo the bossa nova, great song

  • you should list the band members...

i know that's mike shapiro on drums but who else is here?

  • wow He TALKS "Terima kasih" means THANK YOU! GREAT!!!

    Sergio is GREAT!!

keep up the good work buddy!

  • Haha, I was there at the concert :D

  • Sergio Mendes, no matter what decade is still one of my favourite bands of all time. They are simply up there amongst the best. Muito Fantastico!!!

  • Out of the massive Jobim songbook comes this gem! Sergio did it proud!

originally from the Brasil 77 era.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Eu adoro esea musica.

    I love this song.

  • Is Tom Jobim the late Antonio Carlos Jobim's son?

  • Oldiesfan55 Tom Jobim and Antonio Carlos Jobim are one in the same. "Tom" is a nickname give to him by his adoring fans from his home country of Brasil.

Sadly..Tom passed away some years back..the entire country went into mourning. A prolific songwriter and musician.

  • Thanks to you and the other member for answering my question.

I didn't know he had that nickname.

I'm sad too that he passed away. :-(

I'm cuckoo for Brazilian music, especially Bossa Nova and Samba. :-D

  • It's the same guy, his nickname.

  • MARZO ES CON "Z"

  • LONG LIVE SERGIO MENDES!

  • I've always had this, in a cassette tape, so now it's worn out. Thanks for posting this. I wish there's a repeat thingy in youtube.

  • good vid!

if you would like to see the video for jamie foxx's song overdose, off of intuition,

    click my name.

  • This song is a classic Tom Jobim song and has been recorded by EVERYBODY who is anybody in Brazil. In fact, if you're a Brazilian singer and have not sung this song YOU ARE NOT BRAZILIAN!

  • Can anyone tell me where I can find this version? I have been looking and cannot find it anywhere

  • look maybe to the "black eyed peas" concerts ? 'cause sergio used to play with them ...

  • I had it on cassette 14 years ago..of course it's now warped and i'm still searching like you..LOL

  • leocnevels: Waters of March can be found on Sergio Mendez "74 Vintage" Album/CD. Vocals by Grachina Leporace ( Sergio's wife) and Bonnie Bowden.

  • Thank you!

  • el condor pasador !!! hat's off!!! galing!

  • 5uffy: Scratch 'All My Tomorrows' (Sammy Cahn & Jimmy Van Heusen) from the list above. But add Jobim's 'Someone to Light Up My Life' and 'Once I Loved' as well as, for good measure, Riz Ortolani's 'More' and Trenet's 'I Wish You Love.'

  • no!!!! pus esta chido

  • Esos gringos meten tu lengua podrida en todos lados

  • es un excelente musico

  • why the 2 girls having eye to eye contact? why they dont look to the audience

  • i love this song

  • its "aguas de março" not aquas de marso...

but it doesn't matter...I love this song

  • i think this was jobim's best composition.... a nightmare song for singers, not because its a difficult range, just difficult to remember the words!

  • Very good rendition. I like the Italian one too, performed by the Italian Diva MINA.

  • One of Sergio's best renditions. It's clear that all the players were really into this song. And no wonder-- it's a classic, and they have it nailed!

  • Replying to my own post, this rendition just blows me away. Sergio's recorded it four or five times, starting with "Vintage '74" in a great version that included Jobim himself on guitar. That and Jobim's version with Elis Regina have been my two favorites. But this one blows them away. It's unusual in that it lacks the central instrumental break. Instead, it propels with a relentlessness that works really well with the lyrics. Gosh, this is great.

  • Now "I've" gotta reply 2 U! heh heh! REALLY? I didn't know that Sergio had a version of it with Jobim on guitar! Sounds awesome. Have to search it out. Can you tell me what set it's on? LOVE this song, and LOVE Sergio's work too! Just happened to stumble on 'this' and glad I DID!

    God Bless, friend.

    C.J.

  • It was Sergio's first recording of "Waters of March", on his "Vintage '74" album for Bell, which was quite good. He and Jobim were friends.

  • I just love this song..hopefully I get to sing this song again..HTann..

    Artistnettwork

  • I Never have! But I WANT to! ;-D Do you have anything posted where you 'did' sing? Curious.

  • Esta canción va a centro de tu corazón , por eso las palabras importan poco , la música y las voces te acarician por dentro

Dios les bendiga ¡¡ A.C. Jobim y Sergio Méndez ¡

  • I love this song! what's the name of the two female singers?

  • cool

  • So much love for this song I can;t stand it. ^_^

  • en republica dominicana fue y sera un exito por siempre

  • Absoluty fantastic! This song is the better brasilian music. Great open harmony, infinite possibilities to arrange and to play. Thanks Jobim.

  • absolutely fantastic!!!! poesia pura.........GRAZIE GRAZIE GRAZIE

  • Fantastic, thanks!

  • WOW..this was JAVAJAZZ festival 2007 indonesia!!!!

  • cool

  • because of lyrics mearurements and rhyms, English version is a little diferent of original brazilian one in Portuguese language. Some words in original have no same weigth when translated into English.

  • It's interesting that Jobim wrote both the Portuguese and English versions.

He'd be very proud of this rendition. Indonesia was so lucky to have Sergio visit with this tight and accomplished combo. Drums, percussion, bass, two girls, and Sergio on piano-- it's like Brasil '66 all over again, and I know no higher compliment.

  • Correct name = aguas de marco.

This song lyrics makes a balance between the bad situation and the bad season when waters ( month of march ) ends the brazilian summer.

oposition side by side as life and death, joy and sadness, begining and ending, etc.

  • Thanks for a real translation of what this beautiful song is talking about. I totally get it now. Thanks from an American singer

  • Aguas de Marco ( Waters of March ) originally by Jobim is a great song. Lyrics is very hard to be sang by heart.

since words are just scattered without standarts. It can easly mixed around in any verse along the song.

By the way, the female singers duo you see in this video are acctually americans and their Portuguese is quite good.

  • Yes the lyrics are tough to sing. I learned it in in jazz choir and have been singing it since.

  • i think sitti navarro or sophia have thier own version of this song check it out

  • agnespena05...favor lang poh... send me a lyrics of this beautiful song pleaaaase...salamat.

  • segio eres el mejor muy buena cancion de carlos antonio jobim

  • Una más de las muchas bellas composiciones de Carlos Antonio Brasilerio de Almeida Jobim...

Para la eternidad con esta música.

    Gracias Tom.

  • Oba Oba Oba, sim. isto e, nao e? Obrigado.

  • check out mike on the drums!!!

  • I'm really like this song

    this version is pretty good!

  • A stick a stone

it's the end of the road,

it's the rest of the stump

    it's a little alone

    it's a sliver of glass,

it is life, it's the sun,

it is night ,it is death,

    it's a trap, it's a gun.

  • nice friend... i copy this lyrics a week ago... ikaw din pala yan...favor,pls send me a full copy of this song...THANKS!!!

  • One of the best songs ever written. Thank you Tom!

  • Splendida musica, beautiful in English and in Brasilian language!!!!! Great Sergio!!!!!! Perla.

  • terima kasih! thank you in bahasa indonesia

  • and how 'bout that awesome cute drummer?!

  • That drummer is Mike Shapiro, a prominent and well-appreciated jazz drummer, one of the best of his generation. He's about to tour with Herb Alpert and Lani Hall and is the drummer of their new CD, "Anything Goes." He's incredibly talented.

  • The combination of English and Portuguese is so bom! Obrigado for posting this wonderful performance.

  • It's better in Portuguese :).

  • I agree!! Portugese is such a beautiful language.

  • 5uffy: Among others, the original language versions of 'Desafinado'; 'One Note Samba'; 'My Way'; 'What Now My Love?'; 'It's Impossible'; 'Watch What Happens'; 'Autumn Leaves'; 'The Girl From Ipanema'; 'All My Tomorrows'; 'If You Go Away'; 'My Man'; 'Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars'; 'Yellow Days'; 'A Day in the Life of a Fool'; 'I Will Wait for You'; 'I Wish You Love'; etc., are better also. Sinatra; Ella; Bennett, Rod Stewart and the rest should have avoided singing them in English.

  • I found Que Reste-t-il Des Nos Amours to be kind of cheesy and campy in the original version by Charles Trenet. Most older french music doesn't hold up very well over time. In my opinion, that's the one on your list that doesn't belong.

  • Point well-taken.

  • Sweet!

Thank you for posting this. I love it.
