I'm so used to the symphonies of older, more classic composers like Beethoven and Mozart that listening to the symphony of a borderline contemporary composer is almost abstract. It's unusual, but a very welcome change.
i definitely would not call this borderline contemporary. i definitely see what you mean and i agree, however i think you'd wanna look at shostakovich's symphonies for that type of deal

I'm trying to like Sibelius, but I can't help feeling that his music borders on the pretentious.
