There's a thing I find so unusual about this kid.

Billy Bob Thornton would at times go ballistic and would viciously loose his temper with the kid swearing and scolding. Whenever this happened, the kid would show no reaction to his temper. He's like 9 or 8 years of age and other kids around those ages can get frightened and upset easily. He wouldn't!

In this case, the little cherubic (angelic) boy with golden hair (the lighting sometimes makes a "halo") saves Willie from self-destruction (hell) as proven by the ending. We even see the boy shed his blood for Willie, bleeding from his hands to make his "wooden pickle" gift. The kid is an EXTREME child archetype whose questions help Willie see in a child-like perspective. Christ allegedly said to enter Heaven you must come as a child.
