  • AMAZING TUTORIAL BRO! YOU ROCK!!!

  • d[-_-]b I am The Dj d[-_-]b

  • thanks

  • having the same problem as the guys below with the zero crossings taking the sine from operator. i probably could mess around with the sample to get rid of them but i'd like to know the correct way of sorting it (within ableton native instruments if possible) thanks man

  • Great tutorial dude. Thanks

  • Amazing work, very very helpful!

  • thx a lot:)

  • Awesome tut V. Question: I pulled the sine wave straight from Operator, but no matter how close i get in to match the zero crossing of the file in Sampler, I get a click, when it loops back. I adder a crossfade and the click goes away, but you can still here something. How did you avoid that?

  • @eldjswett I have the same problem. :(

  • Dude, absolutely brilliant. Perfect balance between technicality and simple explanations. Very functional. very interesting. Thank you,

  • Lol 6:56 Midway up the nob.

    Really good videos man!

  • So what about the midi for the bass line? Do you just leave it as one long note like that or do you them make a normal type of bass line? Is this a stupid question?

  • thank you..

  • thanks for the many awesome tutorials!

i've made a sub using this method that sounds really really good, but when i turn up the volume (either in live itself or on my speakers) it gets sooo distorted :s

is my subwoofer too cheap or is there something that i've missed? all i used on it are an EQ (haven't boosted any lower frequencies so that can't be it) and a compressor...

anyone who can help? at the moment all i can do to make my sub stand out is lowering the volume of everything else :/

    thx!

  • @godderis Spectrum all your other intruments and lowcut everything to make space for the sub itself, Im not sure about the compressor on the sub bass. If that doesnt work, your sub is cheap i guess.

  • best tutorial on youtube

  • great video. thanks for the tips. also, nice external drive named 'puss..'

  • hey i had a question, so i have a wav sound of a random sample bass i want to use but when i use the simpler or sampler, and try to hold down the note, the sound just stops when the wav file stops. Do you know how to make the sound continue as i hold down the note instead of just making it get cut off. I tried to loop it starting from a different point in the wav file but it just repeats and tats not the sound i want, I want the sound to be a stable sound instead of just looping from the start

  • do you know how to synth hoover bassline in ableton? thanx!

  • Very nice Video!

  • Hey. I just wanted to start out by saying that I really enjoy your videos. You're VERY clear and straightforward and everything you do couldn't be easier to follow. Great work! One question I have for you though is this: Why not just use abletons built in freeze and flatten functions to quickly turn your massive sub bass into a sample?

  • @psionic1212 Hey mate. Thanks for the comment! Yes, you certainly could use freeze and flatten. Although I like to export to create my own sample library sometimes and there's always more than one way to do something. Cheers!

  • yo ves. too much of something in a band can accumulate mud right? so with that said, how do i make sure i don't produce a muddy mix if my sub kick and bass guitar need that low end range without mudding up my track?

  • @acedaface954 Side chain compression ;)

  • @DJVespers sidechaining is how you reduce buildup in the low end frequency? I'll do it.

  • @acedaface954 Side chaining is what will allow your kick to punch through your sub bass layer. When the kick hits, the bass frequencies the compressor is on will be attenuated. Check out my video on side chaining on my channel. Cheers!

  • Hey man. First let me start off by saying great tutorial.. Now my question, when I create a sub bass, there's a brief crackle at the beginning of every note I put into my piano roll. It doesn't matter what octave I'm in. I've tried adjusting envelopes, etc, and even exported a sub bass track by itself to mp3 and listened to it on itunes, just to confirm that it's not my DAW and it's not. I'm getting annoyed by now with it. Got any ideas?

  • @SleeplessCityDub Hmmm, that's a tough one. I would usually start by backing off the Attack on the envelope quite a bit. What instrument are you using for sub? Slower attack is your best bet. Or a pitch envelope that starts the pitch higher to give a thump. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers Cheers. Had the same problem and that sorted it. Lovin the tutorials as well really easy to follow! keep it up

  • @SleeplessCityDub That crackle might just be your computer slowing down. Try saving a .wav file of just the sub bass playing notes and see if the crackle is still there

  • @SleeplessCityDub Yo Sleepless!! had the same problem. What i did was I chopped of the very first segment of the subbass off, like the first 2 seconds and then re-exported it and changed the name. Throw it back into the sampler and you should be good.

  • lol nice job on figuring out the retrigger!

  • @sharkjesus Yeah, that one can be a bitch if you don't know it's on. Cheers!

  • The name of your external hard drive must be nasty... :P

  • @JimmyGr90 Lol. I was waiting for someone to notice that.

  • im not disagreeing but why is subbass always in mono?

and thanks for all your great tutorials!

  • @4Thelove0music Because it should never be panned left or right. Dead center. Thus, no need for a stereo field. Also, many producers say it has more punch in mono. Most club and big systems are in mono anyways. Cheers!

  • Wow. Very helpful. WAY easier and faster than what I have been doing. Thanks for this.

  • @lenarst You are very welcome! Thanks for watching.

  • Do you never use the Operator for sub? Are there advantages to using Massive's sin wave sample as opposed to the built-in sin wav in the Operator?

  • @gcnubian Hey mate. Yeah, I use both. I know lots use Massive so I wanted to show in that VST, but Operator is dope too. Either one will work.

  • Thanks man, great job!

  • @sicmusic6 Thanks for watching!

  • everytime im in a lack of inspiration ,i know where to come, you made things looking so logical and easy, you are a magician!!!! ;D

  • @DrGoldsylver Whoa! Sick bro. Glad you dig.

  • Yes Sir! I too would like to chime in with my salutations !

    Thank you Vespers!!!!!!

  • @any1particular You're very welcome.

  • Another great set of tutorials Vespers! I really appreciate the fact that you teach controls of ableton as well. I recently made a switch from FL Studio to Ableton, so that was a big help! Looking forward to future vids man!

  • @ZeusAlvarado2009 Glad to hear you made the switch over to the dark side of the force! Stay tuned for more awesomeness in Live.

  • Thanx Vespers, another fantastic set of tutorials

  • @nusphere You're very welcome mate! Cheers.

  • wow great lesson, thanks

  • @wizzynoise4thewin You're welcome mate.

  • keep up the good work .. videos just getting better !!

  • @djsheldon Thanks Sheldon. Cheers bro!

  • video LAG.... GOOD vid tho !!

  • @djsheldon Hmmmm, occasionally your vid gets put on one of Youtube's older crappy servers I guess. Only happens to certain vids. Sorry about that!

  • Easy and understandable,good tutorial.

  • nice profi tutorial. Are you using that for kicks or for basslines( in breaks where there is no kick? ) ?

  • @fedderf123 Hey mate. I don't personally use this for kicks, but I know sound designers do sometimes. And in breaks there certainly are kicks. Not sure what you mean there. There's a kick in every style of music I write, that's for sure. Cheers!

  • Thx!!

  • @tuva600 You're welcome!

  • Lovin it!

I think that the last 3 tracks I've made, has been made mainly from stuff I learned from you.

..side note: could be really nice if the link to other parts of tutorials was in the description :)

  • @FinalFragment Awesome mate. Glad to hear it. I'll post the link for ya. Cheers!

  • @DJVespers Cool, well not only for me, but it's like an optimization of your post's and makes it a lot easier to navigate your wisdom ;)

  • @FinalFragment For sure mate. Very good suggestion. I made a note so my future videos will incorporate that. Cheers!

  • Thanks Vespers.. yet again!

  • @ratman8209 You're welcome. Thanks for watching!

  • Vesper... Thanks again.... i'm a massive fan.. literally.. Please please get your website working. Need your effects rack desperately..

    Sherrin

    Mumbai..

  • @Sheerrean Will do. Cheers mate!

  • You say that this is for people that dont have Massive, but you export the sound from Massive?? Its not a problem for me, because I have Massive.

You should make a tutorial doing this with JUST ableton, for those who only have that.

  • @CeciDJing Fair enough. I figure it's easy to make a sine wave in any synth or just grab a sine wave sample, but seeing as this is a playlist I wanted the continuity of exporting from Massive to show how to export and reimport. Cheers!

  • @CeciDJing : isn't it universal? I use Cubase. With a synth and Halion ( in Cubase) u can do the same thing.

  • @fedderf123 Indeed. Same techniques apply regardless of the synth. Every decent synth should have the same basic features I used here.

  • Would you recommend using the sine wave from operator? That always sounds pretty clean to me.

  • @CollosusXC Sure thing. You can use a sine wave from anywhere as long as it's a good sample.
