  • holy shit...

  • This is thee coolest version of All Blues!

  • Scott's so good it's not even fair. What phrasing and imagination. Fabulous.

  • Just discovered Scott. He"s remarkably creative.

  • So lets see.... Scott uses the whammy bar so he must be derivative of Jeff Beck! Well, he uses a strat so he must be copying Hendrix, and he uses OD so he must be copying well, everybody!!!and he plays blues licks so he must be copying again, EVERYBODY! Lets face it guys, nothing new under the sun EXCEPT for his amazing phrasing, ideas, and technique which are uniquely him! How about Lets just enjoy that and learn from him.

  • This is some sort of miles davis tune.. i just recognize it. one of those tunes from kind of blue..

  • @OfficialNsteady All Blues

  • Great Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ricardub lol'd

  • Hey guys, finally, Snake Soda transcription by me! watch?v=-ql8VeQTXhM

  • Scott was so much better before he needed a haircut, mmK?

  • All Blues... MD. Cool!

  • I've some of scotts CD's actually, and love Tore Down House, and Well To The Bone, also Thick with Tribal Tech was great. This over use of the whammy bar is just horrible though, and sounds like a very poor version of stuff from Jeff Becks Guitar Shop album. Also, Scott still needs a haircut.

  • isso é que é um guitarrista!!!!

  • I can't understand how some guy can be so ignorant in front of a musician of this level...bah...they don't even deserve a reply.

  • Scott was a much better player before he started trying to sound like Jeff Beck all the time. For fucks sake give the whammy bar A REST!!!!

    And get a HAIRCUT!!!!

  • @guitarmaan are your parents related?

  • @guitarmaan Beck doesn't play this heavy harmonic stuff, so apart from the use of a whammy bar and the blues / jazz backgrounds - they're way different. How about this - don't like it? Don't listen to it...

  • @dragondix

I'm not defending Guitarmaan's comment per se, but Scott is using his fingers a lot ala Jeff Becks signature of using his fingers only. And Scott does have a bit of the 'honk' in his tone that Beck is known for. I agree that Scott is more harmonically advanced and oh so yummy when he goes outside, but I can see where Guitarmaan can draw the similarities.

  • I agree with the guys who prefer the tension added by the microtonal pitch differences. Henderson says he has always admired slide guitar and wanted to emulate that sound.

  • Amazing playing ! Scotty's the shit. Shame his hairdresser died .......lmao

  • Wow. This is truly mindblowing. Let's not forget he is getting this level of inspiration and intensity just playing to a backing track! Scott is amazing.

  • bravo:) M.Davis"All Blues"

  • he really lost it since the 90's tribal tech days...now he just pulls at the bar like it's his dick, plays totally out...and no amount of personalized, vintage, expensive gear in the world can help someone who seems to have lost his sense of intonation

  • @BrianGuitarShred this sounds 'out' to you? hahaha, what? when, exactly? sounds pretty deeply melodic to me. and I like 'out' shit...

  • @magicsam47 the over-use of the bar stutters/flutters and quarter step bends.

  • @BrianGuitarShred omg, u really dont know what u are talking about, do you? ''lost sense of intonation''?? hahahahahahahahahahhaha....at least (seeing your name), i hope u can appreciate shred music better

  • @diasspeed Based on the way you're typing, I really doubt you even understand what intonation even is. Henderson simply plays out of tune.

  • @BrianGuitarShred sorry english is not my mother language. to play "out of tune" and make it sound good u must have very high sense of intonation. if u are suggesting that henderson is not able to play intresting solos over chords then i think u must go do some homework on who henderson is and how high level of musical knowledge he has. he always knows 100% what he is doing.i see u cannt understand this kind of playing, its ok, your ears may not be experienced enough.return here after 5-10 years

  • @diasspeed I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT PLAYING OVER CHORD CHANGES. Henderson's INTONATION is off. I own several Tribal Tech albums and know just as well as anyone else how well he can blast through changes. But his use of quarter step bends for a "bluesier" feel is just being overdone and he just sounds out of tune...although he may very well be playing the right notes, he's not playing them at a consistent interval range and therefore sounding OUT OF TUNE.

  • @BrianGuitarShred He is doing that as an effect in much the same way Jeff Beck does. It is about tension and release. If you want perfect intonation on every note go listen to any song in guitar pro. You may not like it but it is intentional.

  • the best guitarist on earth, I saw him twice!

  • Saw him playing this in a clinic :D awesome

  • Amazing!!! That`s what I have to say. But what a hair style... :)

  • I can´t believe this solo!! he is pretty far...

    thank u scott!

  • definitely a beck disciple!

  • tone and phrasing for days...

  • That was F*&KING AMAZING!!! What tone and playing...F&CK!

    Scottie IS the shit!

It's as if Miles Davis, Jeff Beck, and Yoda had an alien-love-child, and the result was the all-knowing/all-playing/all-expressing Scott Henderson - LOL!

    Epic!

  • Wow, I just discovered Scott Henderson like.. last 2 days on Utube... amazing !!

  • i was waiting for Scott to put a slide on his right hand

  • be compared with scott jeff beck is bullshit

each is good at his style, but the scott see much further musically

if he wants to play just blues and jazz will detonate, while the Jeff Beck would be a bit lost in this world fusion jazz that dominates scott

  • @betao1970

no man, Jeff beck is a thing , and SCott is another thing. Both are guitarists of guitarists.

    Both are my Idols.

  • @chefnaj IS JUST MY OPINION

  • @betao1970 what kind of music do you think jeff beck plays now and days? lol

there is a lot of Beckisms in this solo, but thats alright.

there's a saying us musicians live by: "if you take one lick its stealing, if you take 5 its research."

as far as im concerned Henderson is just researching a little bit.

  • Nice hair.

  • A lot of people are smart enough to be into jazz fusion, which is real music, and retarded at the same time for not being able to appreciate the good stuff out of that idiom...Im tired of reading about comparisons with coryel,carlton,johnson,morse...GET THIS!Scott is in a different level! All great players, but, can any of these guys even play changes in a legit way???NO!

Comparisons should be avoided in music but the only people in Scotts league are scofield, metheny and a couple more...

  • Sounds like sax..so smooth!

  • Scott just tears it up.

  • Right on Scott !! : )))

  • 2:40 ........ OMG.

  • 6 people knew the video would end as soon as henderson started speaking

  • jeff becks little crazy brother..

  • Very Jeff Beck, down to the tone..

  • The best, the best, the best!!!!

  • miles devis influences

  • @claudeLazy really?

  • 6 people don't like Scott's hair style.

  • @danjoeblue Gallagher would be proud.

  • @danjoeblue homeless hair style

  • @danjoeblue they're already 7... he should visit an hair styler :-)

  • He's so fucking good he has to entertain HIMSELF with the whammy bar while us minor mortals take rudimentary scribble of what kindsa' notes he uses.

  • All Blues or Don,t Drink My Russian Vodka !!!

  • Miles would be proud

  • @adamconnellymusic Absolutely true !!!

  • ma su quale pianete è accaduto ciò ?

  • Thanks for this awesome scott video ! i saw him in france in 2005 and it was so incredible ! The new Suhr set-up is incredible !

  • I wonder.. Does he have Floyd Rose? Or have can he keep that beast in tune?

  • @JensKolonD

    Vintage Fender Tremolo!

  • ô carinha foda!

  • he has no floyd rose only simple synchronized tremolo or its something special signature special?

  • I have been listening to Scott since his early days with Jean Luc Ponty. He is extremely versatile, knows his instrument inside and out, and keeps getting better. His technique w/ trem bar (not the dives) is quite Jeff Beck-ish at times. At this level it is not a matter of anyone standing taller. They are masters of the instrument but have their own distinct sounds-Steve Morse, Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Beck, Frank Gambale, Willy Porter, Pat Martino, just to name a few!

  • his phrasing sounds a lot like metals, sax or those old woman blues singers ...great and real trademark..

  • @holywoodrock

Scott grew up listening to especially bebop. Parker, Davis, Coltrane - horns, you know. And he has always been fond of using ears and learning from ear, so that makes very good sense he has this metals phrasing.

    But great noticed!

  • scott is a true musical creature, it's a real pleasure listen to.... and a true inspiration

  • If while listening to this you don't have a CHILL up your spine or a TWINKLE in your toes, you're not HUMAN...

  • Comment removed

  • Scott at his absolute best !!

  • Comment removed

  • reminds me of jeff beck on the technique

  • Man.. That was just F^ckin Epic!!! Oh and at a workshop haha.. Next thing that happens.. 100 former guitarists get together and drown their sorrows around a warm fire made from burning their guitars. You can have mine to get it started!

    Scotties the shit!!

  • @EvilRoySlad3

That's just funny...I don't find this so epic, very good yes,but epic. There are so many guitar players who stand much taller than Henderson.

If you want to get any better, you don't burn your guitar, play it! :))))

  • @silversilver1975 Just curious - who do you think "stands taller" than Henderson?

  • @effsixteenblock50 Uh, Curt Cobain...hellO!!!!

  • @effsixteenblock50

Don't get me wrong,Henderson is a master player, but to put his playing before Allan Holdsworth,Larry Coryell,or even Al Dimeola...

  • @silversilver1975 Henderson would cut Coryell's and DiMeola's head right off....

  • @ericlarkins Fusion, blues/jazz/rock-wise, yeah, no question at ALL. Coryell, however, would be tough to beat playing over an uptempo bebop standard, while Al is a much better at latin styles. All three are outstanding talents, man!

  • @ericlarkins I agree. But mainly because of note choices and phrasing. Neither Larry or Al have the kind of creative vocabulary to trade solos with Scott, for more than a couple choruses. Steve Morse and Eric Johnson could easily trade solos with Scott though, without becoming "disinteresting". But again, Scott would be the one with the most "groupies" at his back stage door :-)

  • @EvilRoySlad3 i hear ya;)

  • The phrases that start at 1:43... Words fail me. Sublime and divine maybe. Pure expression, with no limits.

  • It's a clinic for everyone, unless your name is Scott Henderson.

  • Now that's tone and classy playing!

  • I'm an audiologist. When a patient is diagnosed with hearing loss, I recommend they listen to Scott Henderson.

  • @ProfessorNguyen You must deal with a lot of hip hop listeners 'cause all those guys hear is crap. LOL.

  • @ProfessorNguyen LMAO! Excellent prescription, Doc. :)

  • all blues

  • Better than ever!

  • Holy livin' bad ass.

  • I saw Scott henderson live, and it was the most exiting musical experience I had with Jeff beck

  • Scott fa godere la chitarra...

  • All Blues!!

    WOW henderson is the king!

  • Holly Molly, is that All Blues, by Mr. Davis???!??!?!!?!!!! Coolest version ever!

  • He is getting very into Jeff Beck these days!!! Wow, always amazing Scott!

  • @LuKaGuitarzz77 srv did 12 strings and jimi hendrix used 10......

  • The song is All Blues by Miles Davis

  • He tunes to Eb?

  • @BATCH420

    Yes.

  • @BATCH420 Yeah.. I've never quite figured out why. But half step or not, he is the complete package.

  • @AxisofJustice21 well it loosens the strings, and allows you to bend easier. I know he plays 11 gauge strings. So it feels like 10s tuned standard, but you get a thicker sound. SRV did this (with 13s), as well as Jimi Hendrix. I never see jazz/fusion players doing this though.

  • no dictionary can put words for what I feel looking at this..

    hhhmmp.. feeels just right...

  • 2:40 leads to a total orgasm!

never seen such innovative and just amazing playing!

  • awesome!

  • Amazing! We should start a "Henderson 1. Each member buy at least three (3) albums @ amazon, each. 2. Attend local concerts (paying full price) 3. Each member pledges a "No-download" clause, stipulating an allegiance to certain artists, as Scott Henderson, that need support and an active loyal fan base. Without this type of loyalty this kind of talent will disappear.

  • @Vakinar Absolutely!! 100% correct.

Started a jazzrock weblog poolguitar One of the first is about Scott. Learned so much from the guy. And yes have everything by him, bought!

  • How do people like Henderson, Beck and EJ get such a thick tone from their bridge pickups? It's driving me crazy.

  • @imatube2

He turns the tone down on that pickup. Check out a vid of him at Namm where he explains it helpfully

  • @imatube2 Well, trial and error man. How do do you think they develope there own unique tone? And if you do the same you will find the same result's, so who care how they get there's, get your's man.

  • @NOTEWORKER007 I meant ( they're's) for any smart ass dick that might need to suck there own balls and spite me for a spelling mistake.

  • @NOTEWORKER007 But if you want to really know, there is a 2 minute interview with scott for the new suhr amp head he was using at namm where he explains that he turns back the tone to get the same tone when he switches from bridge to neck .

  • @imatube2 - Probably by boosting the mid-range frequencies (and turning down the treble). I saw a clip here once with Scott where he said he liked to turn down the treble on the guitar for the bridge pickup so that when he goes from the neck pickup to bridge, the transition is very subtle. Hope that helps.

  • Your comments about hearing Jeff Beck's style, technique & influence are right on the mark. Scott has mastered Jimi's style as well & uses his bag of tricks to remarkable musical effect. Jimi was first & all due honor, glory & respect to the celestial six-string king, but Scott has had more time (& is more disciplined) & better gear to perfect the craft. Scott appears to enjoy featuring his classic influences & don't we all dig it to the depths of our souls? He's our modern Shakespeare.

  • This would make even Miles smile!

  • @lidesnowi

    switch miles out for everyone

  • @lidesnowi

sorry you said "lidesnowi This would make even Miles smile! "

and i basically said this would make everyone smile

  • The most inspiring player around !

    stunning phrasing and feel!

  • Henderson is the man. A great interpretation of a classic tune. I'd never get bored of listening to this version...

  • Yessss!

  • Whew!!!! Awesome! The man!

  • Comment removed

  • @Stokkelo

    you did?

    fuck lol

  • Master shredder Henderson!!! Gotta love this. 5/5

  • Ir Brasile glia ha fatto bene a Scott !!!

  • Why haven't he and Les Claypool made an album together?

  • Claypool isn't in the same league.

  • I don't think Les do changes very well he's more a modal kind of player,

  • Jimi would have enjoyed this performance.

  • @dziegner why? he didnt write the tune

  • Indeed, Miles Davis did !

  • Probably the best guitarist of the post-Hendrix era to combine the modern tone and phrasing with bebob sophistication. He seems to just get better every year, I miss Tribal tech though. ( I think his students take him for granted,) he's a frickin' national treasure. This is solo so smokin!

  • He's incredible-unreal phrasing!

  • why does this dude insist on playing with such a lame rhythm section?

  • he makes them himselfe

  • because its a workshop

  • Unreal improvisation .. I think he makes beck look like a novice. His tone is a bit similar to Beck or Eric johson and he makes real good use of the major scale during the 4 chord but thats where the similarities stop

  • I wouldn't go and say anything along the lines of him making Beck look like a novice. Scott names Jeff as one of his top influences! They also play completely different styles.. Scott uses his whammy bar this way, while Jeff uses it the way that Scott COPIED off him like every other whammy bar player. But Jeff and Scott are in my top three favorites, so not dissing Scott at all :)

  • You're saying he makes Jeff Beck look like a novice? You do realize that not only do they both play very different styles, but that Scott cites Jeff as a HUGE influence on his playing? They both use the whammy bar in the way that they see it fit, but just remember who was using it first and where Scott got some of the tricks he uses with it.. same with Steve Vai and if you ask Steve, he'll tell you the same thing. Nothing against Scotty though because he's in my top 3 favorite players :)

  • This guy's so humble! I shared a beer at a club called The Backstage here in Seattle like 8-10 years ago. He was so free with his information and so incredibly excited to share how he could pull off these amazing phrases, tones, etc. When I think of Scott Henderson, 1st thing is his breath taking phrasing! That was a magical night.

  • great suhr guitar.....

  • this is so trippy

  • this guy is truly awesome. His pharsing is immpecible

  • Love this guy....

Going to see him for the .......time in February.

    Never enough.....

  • STO VENENDO....

  • Beck with a few jazz chops. His timing is phenomenal

  • A few?!

  • yeah, beck with a teeny tiny amount of basic jazz chops playing 'all blues'.

well, maybe i'm subjective, but to me there's a little more to scott henderson than your statement. no offense, though.

  • my comment was way too brief, to sum scott's playing up so i apologise, i was in a bit of a rush at the time watching the video at work. it sounded a bit obtuse. he is of course an amazing player and i should clarify that.

  • holy crap...genius..

  • Beast

  • Tonetubs, I think it's his handbuilt Suhr 100w head. I think it's basically a Plexi with a Master Volume. Google Suhr, they make his guitar too. Ridiculously expensive, but fantastic gear.

  • @theangusburger: listprice is $ 4500. How is that ridiculous ?

    It's a great quality instrument.

  • Comment removed

  • He uses John Suhr amps and guitars

  • jaysus

    !

he really does take this to just another level. and he sounds so damn close to Jeff Beck, but he's doing his own thing completely at the same time.

    maestro Scotty.

  • Sounds like Jeff Beck to me ;-)

  • @MusiciansQuarter:

everybody is entitled to an opinion......

  • Tone!

  • Assolutamente il numero UNO!!!!!!
