I thought Patty did a wonderful job of singing the theme song, although she wasnt known for that. Good for her. BTW. I loved the movie then and I still enjoy watching today. No Regrets. I loved the cast of the movie. Everyone of them made it happen. They could never remake the movie and get the efftect that the originial movie brought to the sceen.
Dion's version is technically superior, but Patty's fits the character in the movie like it should. This is to take NOTHING away from Dion (It's a classic), but it's a little "too pretty" for this ugly story of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. You haven't lived until you have heard Ms. Warwick in front of a good orchestra live...
Having been a fan and contributing biographer of the beautiful, haunted and doomed actress, Sharon Tate (nee Polanski), for well over 40 years, "VOTD" has always been a sinfull indulgence for me.
(Imagine if Judy Garland had managed to bottle her own demons and resurrect herself in order to portray the roll she had won as wig-wearing bitch-on-heels, "Helen Lawson"!)
This version of the Andre & Dorie Previn theme can only be from a Patty Duke, as "Neely O'Hara", wasted on "booze and dolls".
i love Pattys version of Come live with me! those are the only 2 trax i have ever heard from the album. Does anyone know what other songs she did on the album. B TW, there is a Mike Douglas show song of her singing a jewish folk song, she was gonna become a pro singer. I think shes pretty good! She had a top 10 hit, Dont just stand there in 1965. also I put up a video of KD Lang singing the song over credits. its good.
I'm a big fan of Patty Duke. A fine actress - The Miracle Worker, Valley of the Dolls (campy, but good), The Patty Duke Show, etc. I'm also a big fan of this song. The music is haunting & sad, & the lyrics fit the melody like a glove. The song is not easy to sing, & requires a capable singer to deliver the song properly. Unfortunately, Patty Duke, is not that "singer." Not sure what possessed her to record this, or any song. A fine actress, who overcame many an obstacle, but she cannot sing.
She's actually not a terrible singer on other songs with faster, peppy beats. In other words, songs that are not singers' songs. But this is definitely a singer's song and requires a brilliant singer like Dionne Warwick to make it work.
Boy, it sounds like she's already buzzed. Whoever told this woman that she could sing without irritating the eardrums should have been shot. Some people should leave the music alone and let professionals take care of business. In other words, SHE STINKS!!!!!

To the haters, at least Patty tried. Can you say that about anything? She may not be the best singer, but she is better than YOU! HA HA HAAAA!!!!

I would have rather heard good old Helen Lawson kick the shit out of this song.

A sad and strange yet appropriate interpretation.

Easy to hear why Patty's voice was dubbed; I think one of the best voice overs ever.

@bgrwmn11 She had many hit singles and albums. The song, how it was written, staccato - ishard for anyone to sing.

please...DUB her!

The song is about the characters, so in a way, it was fitting that Neely sing it. But Dionne's or KD's versions are superior...

It was better that she stayed with acting. This is terrible especially after Dionne's version. This is kind of joke. Were they really serious?

Alrighty then ... easy to see (hear) why they dubbed her. It's almost comical really.
