Eesh...tough call...the Overdrive is cleaner so the chugs sound much better as does the solo...but the open chords sound a hell of a lot better with distortion.
I think this version is better tone-wise for everything except the solo. I think the tone for the solo sounds a lot more kick-ass in the overdrive version. Great job man!
This tone sounds better riff-wise, but when you enter the solo the overdrive is better. It sounds cleaner, and distortion not too bad but not as well as this video. The overdrive version has sort of has a muffled sound to it, while this one is clear and rich, but it sounds better doing the solo.
Thanks to you and everyone who has compared and commented. This version got most votes, though still many preferred the o/d version. I may do a version with the Engl Screamer now to complete the set!
your playing was tight, the problem is it was a bit too tight, you should attack the strings a bit more when playing metallica, your style of palm muting would be great for Speed Metal, but this stuff is about being heavy, not fast, just a minor concern however, overall a great cover, 4/5
Dude! i envy you for two things your playing and ur awesome guitar i really want a jackson RR but i was wondering if they were harder to play since there size?
The neck and frets are all same size as any other Jackson; it's just the shape that of course is very different. I actually find them more comfortable than conventional shapes, which is why I have three of them!
great covers man. this song is better with the pedal. its got a sharper crunchier tone with more bite.most old metallica i would do wit the pedal except maybe orion. that song i need something i lil bassier thats not gonna muddy up to much with some of the chords. i have trouble gettin the right tone 4 that one
@DrSlackBladder i think that the version with the pedal sounds better , the distorsion looks more like metalica in my opinion, but if i were you i put a little more of bottom to the pedal. Btw , you'r playing is nice. i like a lot the palm mutin
alright i listen to both carefully i think the metal master has a better tone but less clarity
maybe if you used your jackson with the diablo twin rail with the distortion pedal (its passive isnt it) cause the passive tone would blend a little better in my opinion
and use you jackson with the two active s.duncans for the overdrive since they have more output (if the diablos arent passive)
"you can do it your own way, if its done just how i say", got to be one of my favorite verses, and as always dude awesome cover, you should do suicide and redemption one day
I recorded two version; this with a Digitech MetalMaster and another (not uploaded) with just the amp overdrive (plus a couple of mistakes!). I might upload the other to see which tone people prefer....
I'm looking into better ways to record my videos - any suggestions? I use a Canon Digital Camera SD750 Powershot. I tried a Microsoft webcam last weekend, it gave awful sound and video compared to my digi camera.
I tried it once and blew my soundcard; must have used wrong input. Haven't tried since, but did download Audacity. What about removing sound from digi camera video and synchronizing with Audacity recording?
@DrSlackBladder yeah , as mickd44klit , you can connect you'r guitar (and you'r amp , if it has a connection ,mines have it behind) with a minijack.if you'r amp don't have connection to pc , you can take a normal jack form guitar to pc but at ocnneciton to pc put the minijack on the jack , and connect it at the microphone connection of the pc. If you'r amp have that conneciton you can connect you'r guitar normally but you need a extra jack and minijack to send the sound form the amp to the pc.

The tone is better WITH the MetalMaster for this song, it has more gain and less bass unlike the amp overdrive which is basicly the opposite.

@DrSlackBladder
just connect your amp to your computer. you just need a jack adaptator.
then you can record you audio with audacity.
it sounds much better.
that's what I do for my covers.
MickD44Klit 2 years ago
I tried it once and blew my soundcard; must have used wrong input. Haven't tried since, but did download Audacity. What about removing sound from digi camera video and synchronizing with Audacity recording?
DrSlackBladder 2 years ago
to use your sound card, it's the blue input.
covert your audio from audacity as mp3 (audacity can do it).
to synchronizing audio and video, use a software like windows movie maker.
it's easy to do.
PS: sorry for my english
