  • ok huge qustion im a beginer buttt th power chords wear holdin like hit me with ur best shot wear holdin to strings do we only strum them twoo strings or alll 6?

  • @A7XTT5041 For power chords, you would only strum the strings that you hold down. If you were to hold a power chord shape and strum all the strings, you would be playing an Open Barre Chord. These, when done in the right places, sound beautiful (assuming you don't have too much distortion on)

  • cool but i dont know how to set my amp :/

  • ok im a beginner and mine just sounds too natural like no distortion what do i do???

  • @sammijinxxed I would start by checking whether or not your amp has a "Gain" or channel switch. If it has a knob on it titled "Gain" just go ahead and dump that sucker to about 4 or 5 o'clock (so that it is pointing down and to the right)... if there is no option to do any of this, you need a distortion pedal. you can find them at varying prices, but i'd always recommend a BOSS brand. hope this helps!

  • whats your amp settings at?

  • WHY DOES'NT MY GUITAR CARRY NOTES FOR VERY LONG?

  • hey i have a stupid question for you can power chords be played on acoustic? also great vid totally subbing

  • @MrBugeyes1 Yes they can. but they're not as popular when playing acoustic guitars.

  • @MatthewHALO3star oh cool i was just wondering just curious lol. does anyone else play an ax20 sterling by musicman?

  • @MatthewHALO3star thanks dude :D

  • You just taught me how to read tabs.... Thanks dude!

  • IS THERE MINOR PWER CHORDS?!?

  • @sacredguitar no, there are actually no such thing as minor power chords. If you scroll down a little, someone else actually asked that as well. haha. hope you're enjoying the vids. thanks for watching

  • @PapDaq Wow thanks. That was all the information I needed. I do like the dark edgy sound so I'm just gonna try and practice power cords more often. Thanks bud!

  • @fckadmn hey, no worries. i'm glad you're finding the videos helpful. i'm going to try to be more frequent with them if i keep getting the responses i've been receiving. thanks for watching

  • Hi umm I just have a question, I've been playing acoustic and I'm quite good I want to go to electric, could I use open chords or do I really have to learn power chords?

  • @fckadmn there really isn't anything that says you have to play the guitar a certain way just because you're switching over to electric or acoustic. there are actually plenty of songs played on the electric that use the open chords a-g, such as "you shook me all night long" by AC/DC, as well as "all right now" by Free. Power chords are chords to utilize when playing with heavy distortion, to keep that dark, edgy sound. But there's no specific way to play either instrument. Just have fun

  • ah thanks dude just what i needed :) one question though. When you strum the power chord do you just strum E and A or do you strum all strings? Probably a stupid question but i'm afraid i'm an absolute beginner :(

  • very informative. thank you.

  • Original Rock Song By Sam Lewis <--- search it and tell me what you think

  • Hey got a few questions

1)Is there such thing as a minor power (5) chord ex Em Power chord or Em5?

    2) Other than metal can this be used in any other types of music lets say rock or heavy rock?

  • @LluviasDeBendicion1 Hmm... i can't say that i've ever heard of a minor powerchord... however i'm sure with research i could dig something up. But as an answer to your later question, the power chord is a very versatile thing. And it absolutely goes with hard rock and other versions of the genre. In fact, it really caters more toward rock than metal, as metal more likely than not utilizes melodic chords, arpeggios and a lot more technical playing. Power chords are/can be used in almost any genre

  • @PapDaq im new to guitar and this is the best totorial iv seen :D will these chords sound the same on acoustic drop c? im away from my guitar so i wouldnt know :/

  • @AlexTheDrummer110 Hey, thanks a lot for the feedback. To answer your question, yes and no. Haha. Yes, because it is the same kind of chord just played in a lower tuning/different guitar. The type of guitar you play on doesn't matter, as well as the tuning, since a chord is just a universal piece of music. The SOUND that they make will differ only in the amount of distortion you use (acoustic being no distortion).. does this help?

  • @LluviasDeBendicion1 hey bud, i believe power chords only have three notes. I do NOT play much guitar (bass, piano, cello,) however have figured out that the three notes in a power chord are a root note, the fifth of that chord, and the eighth (the same note as the root note, just one octave higher). Because you are not dealing with thirds of the traditional root position chord when using power chords, you do not control whether the chord will be major or minor. You will notice, ...

  • @rennychenny that regular, or perhaps more intermediate chords have more notes in them, which means more notes. These normally hold the first, third, and fifth. So for example, a C power chord would simply be a C, G, and another C an octave higher. in a typical C chord, i normally add a third for a richer and more direct sound. Because power chords don't deal with thirds, a C power chord for example, can be used as both a major, and minor sound, and so fine. does that make sense to you?

  • anddddddddd adding to my favs

  • thumbs up if he was the first one that really told you how to do it!

  • You can pretty much play any Nirvana song with power chords! Kurt took lessions, learned power chords and quit. Some say he wasn't that good of a guitarist, but I agree he was a better lyricist although I loved how he played.

  • @kurtsunivox

That's pretty much how I learned to play guitar too!

  • Dude how come my guitar doesnt sound like yours? It sounds like an acoustic one.. I've got a SX Standard Series, is it possible to play power chords on mine?? Please reply D:

  • when you strum do you strum all the strings or just the 6th? i just got my guitar so im confused

  • You strum only the strings involved.

If you press down 3 strings, then you only strum those three strings.

  • Been searching for these for a while and this is by far the best and easiest to follow lesson I've come across, well done fella!

  • what is the 2nd part of hit me with your best shot? i got the 10/12, 3/5, 7/9, 5/7 part...but what's the second part he plays?

  • do ya strum the top 2 strings only? im tryin to learn power chords on acoustic! =)

  • your awesome

  • what guitar are you playing?

  • the guitar in the vid is a Fender Strat

  • @PapDaq What does the index finger do? cover all the strings?

  • @MrDexiji the index finger actually only covers the top (thickest) string. if your finger was to cover the entire fret, then you'd have a barre chord. just use your fingertips for a power chord.

  • @PapDaq Cheers mate, i just started yesterday and i found your video very helpful

  • @PapDaq i have an evh wolfgang and a les paul epiphone what are they good for

  • @fghjtyjij wow. a wonfgang, huh? that's a quality custom guitar. but really, with those two, you have the world at your fingertips. the les paul is a very versatile guitar in that it is used in pretty much every genre. it's just a masterpiece of technological engineering. as for the wolfgang, i saw a mini documentary about it and it seemed as though it was catered more toward a heavier use. i.e. more distortion and technical playing. but hey, use them for whichever style you see fit! haha

  • Dude your the man

  • Cheers for that. Helped alot.

  • O.O what tuneage is it on??? (sorry i am only on my 3rd year of gutair so some old terms slip my mind) do you use drop d tuneing??? and OMG SO EASY YOUR AMAZING!
