I normally buy foreign luxury cars. I took a chance and bought a Volt instead. All I can say is, WOW! After 7 months, I still have a smile on my face when driving the Volt. A refined vehicle in every way (OK, the dash control layout could be improved). With a long 65 mile commute I am getting 120 MPG. Outstanding.

Let's face it, american car manufacturers lost it years ago & this vehicle will be hot in the first segment. Overseas markets will improve on this product and produce a more reliable and safer vehicle, Why? because American Car manufacturers use inferior parts & only recall when many deaths occur from malfunctions. Overseas manufacturers are held at higher standards making recall always voluntarily. I want our America back! One last thing, both hands on the wheel! U ding bat!

No one has ever built and produced a Hybrid vehicle like GM has done with the Volt. Not many today, if any, has built a car that can travel the first Forty Miles on Electrcity alone. And supplementing that with a flex fuel engine.

the gas engine is a range extender. you can get 40 miles out of a single charge of it without filling it with gas ever.

The battery technology wasn't there in the 90's - now it is. Plus, the range extender is a good idea: you don't have to worry about running out of battery energy on your way home if the wind picks up.

Why did the Electric Vehicle 1 Cost so much? Becuase we're overcharging for the price of our products. GM has to buy products from another company who charges twice the price. Inflation is occuring because we are greedy and want more and more. It will always be natural unless we regulate the industry.

GM needs to accelerate this even further. The government needs to start enforcing fair trade policies which will limit the imports that are stealing our jobs and killing the economy. GM, kudos for doing it right on the drivetrain if we ignore the fact that it was born out of wicked damage control to counter the public shaming in the documentary 'who killed the electric car'.

but the drivetrain is just 1 of 3 aspects wrong with 'normal' cars. the two others are overweight and poor aerodynamics and the Volt is terribly mundane in those other two respects. mark my words, you need to very agressively put out models where all 3 are thought about

i actually think it looks way better this way. granted it looks like the others, but it think that makes it more streamlined and smooth, not blocky and obnoxious.

also, if you have kept up with the vehicle's development, the engineers stated the first design was not aerodynamically correct, and would not have been fuel efficient when the gas motor kicked in once the battery ran out. also, awd would have added to much weight and strain to the battery im guessing.

But it still went from an agressive two door to a dull 4 door prius looking thing (which btw I hate the prius). It's annoying, because if it was the cool version rather than the mommy and kids version it would be desireable, now it just has green status (which btw, only tree huggers care about). And yeah AWD wouldn't work, I'm just saying that as a side note because I live in AK and if you want an AWD car its a subaru, or an audi. Subarus suck and audis are too expensive.

very true, very true. But Gm, get on that AWD lol. Also, i think that vehicles should be more focused on a unique driving feel, more twords the raw side. I drive a '73 VW Super Beetle and it may be slow (infact, damn slow, it doesn't run right lol) but its a kick to drive! (btw I'm just writing the second part cause its on an official GM video, hope they're listening) So a little less luxury and maybe more engine noise even if it's electric, rwd or awd (so the motor is sitting the right way).
