@0Russia0 Maybe because before it our neighbours had stoled our polish territory not clear why... And remember lands we had took after the Treaty of Riga were once part of Commonwealth (it' s about 30% of whole land stoled by Russia in Partitions).
So of course invaders and occupants are innocent, and their victims must accept that, what they've done, huh?!
@0Russia0 I'm not talking about current borders, Lwów is now ucrainian city with ucrainian citizens. But before Soviets had exiled or murdered its justifical enhabitants, it was completely polish city (with large population of Jews), with polish culture and history. Do yuo know why credo of Lwów is "Leopolis Semper Fidelis" ("Lwów Always Loyal")? Because this city had stopped unnumerous marches of Tartars, Cossacks and (in 1920 )Bolsheviks.
Centuries of Polish imperialism and colonialism in Ukraine brought ethnic cleansing, racism, discrimination and extreme economic exploitation of Ukrainians under the viciously parasitic Arenda exploitation system and Polish neofeudal system. As a result by 1939, Ukrainians wanted self-determination and independence--which, given the gross unfairness of Polish colonialism in Ukraine-- was inevitable.
@Bosirant That what you said it is evidence that, you don't know history. Poles (nobility) from Ukraine, had the same origins as Ukrainians. They were ruthenians. Good example of that is Jeremi Wiśniowiecki. They used say about them self "Gente Ruthenus, natione Polonus". Ruthenian nobility was polonized. So that Ukrainians were exploited by their own nobility, like in whole feudal world.
The Polish empire's boundaries changed because all empires eventually shrink after subject peoples and colonized nations exercise self-determination and gain independence. There is no benefit to being nostalgic for Polish imperialism and colonialism.

@Bosirant Same with Russian Imperialism... then with Soviet Union's ambitions.
Difference being that in times of Old Kingdom every subject nation had right to use thier language, and have thier religion. Jews were free to practice Judaism, Orthodox remained orthodox, muslims were still muslims.
Compare it with massive religious conflicts in the western europe... And with russian ruthless eradication of minorities under thier rule.
@Beneficiis Yes, I agree. Sure there were extremely negative consequences to colonialism, but, there were positive impacts of Polish colonialism, the same way there were positive impacts of British colonialism in India or Ireland. Thanks to British colonialism, various bureaucratic, organizational, and parliamentary benefited the governance of India and Ireland after independence. Nevertheless, Ukrainians, like Indians or the Irish, chose self-determination and independence.
During Polish imperialism and colonialism in Ukraine, Ukrainians were exploited by the vicious and ruthless Polish colonial Arenda system and thus reduced to grinding poverty--which made them more vulnerable to Polish colonial exploitation.
As a result of the coming to an end of Polish neofascism and colonialism in western Ukraine in 1939, emigration, immigration, assimiiliation, integration, intermarriage and urbanization since then, Lviv has become increasingly Ukrainian in character.
@Bosirant - What about the Soviet Union's control of Ukraine after WWII? Are you saying it was better than (what you call) "Polish imperialism and colonialism in Ukraine?"
Is is 2011 now, and the population of Lviv is over 80 percent Ukrainian ethnic ancestry--so it is very Ukrainian in character, although increasingly cosmopolitan. Ukrainians of Russian ancestry are less than 10 percent --the rest are Ukrainians of various ancestries, including Armenian, Belarusan, Jewish, Polish and others. Of course, many persons have multiple ancestries because of intermarriage.
At one time, in the days of the British empire, there were many English colonists in Dublin and in Mumbai (Bombay) -- but now Dublin is Irish and Mumbai is Indian.
The same phenomenon of colonialism happened in Polish-occupied Ukraine. The Poland empire shrunk the same way the British and other empires have shrunk. Now Lviv is Ukrainian, the same way Dublin is Irish, and Bombay is Indian.
Like many European states, Poland was an empire with imperial ambitions.
Imperialist Nazi Germany and Bolshevik Russia partnered to invade and divide fascist Poland in 1939 and thus triggered WWII. Although this imperialistic Bolshevik-Nazi collaboration enabled numerous genocides, atrocities and crimes against humanity, it also brought an end to centuries of Polish imperialism and colonialism in colonial Polish-occupied Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine.
@ZjawaIX Yes, the 1939 statistics of Poland colonialism and imperialism are very different from the 2011 world of NATO. EU, democracy and human rights.

Poland history is sad like Turkish history. I see your country went through a lot like we did. Thanks to your great ancestors and heroes sacrificing their life's for freedom of Poland.
@GeeeR018 My comments were removed, because I told the truth.
Please don't believe in ursus911's comment that Poland was the Nazilike dictatorship and also don't believe that Germas suffered so much. Compare it to Poles' suffering!
@GeeeR018 I`m sorry to tell you, that you are unfortunately not right. Poland made progromes on their minorities, they stole the Land of Ukrainians, Germans and Jews, they killed members of nonpolish minorities in the size of some ten thousands. That Poland was an imperialistic state who even wanted more Land, they tried to persuade France in the late 20sand beginnings 30s to attack Germany to take away even more Land up to Berlin, there are a lot polish propaganda prewar maps who proove that...
Not to worry, most here know the truth and ignore the rantings of ill minded individuals here on YT. Pity so many of them have nothing to do but whine and complain about how history screwed them over. Time To Move On, There are bigger and more serious issues at had here for Europeans to deal with before it’s Too Late.
@GeeeR018 Unless there is democracy and civil and human rights, there will be guaranteed suffering. Happily, both Ukraine and Poland are out from under the imperialist Bolshevik Russia's yoke (in spite of neofascist Russia's expansionist Putinism) and can be true friends and allies in an increasingly globalized and uncertain world.
The point I wanted to make, is that if you want to talk about Polish imperialism per se, you can only talk about 1918-1939 period. Earlier Poland was a country with very loose central govt, and Power was mostly held by local nobility that mostly wasn't even Polish. Poles were ruled by Poles, Lithuanians by Lithuanians, and so on.
And democracy was present there, King was elected (even among foreigners), and laws were loose. Not quite imperialistic.
@GeeeR018 i agree with you. AS i was watching this, i said out loud to my wife, "my god these people have been though some shit." And as far as i know part of my blood is from poland on my mothers side. So, although i have no memory of any of these horrors the Poles have known, some how i can not ignore what has happened there. I will learn more.
A very simple way of telling a history. There was only half of the population of prewar Poland which was polish. The prewar Poland was a Nazilike dictatorship whith a dramatic aim to ethnic cleansing of non plosh population. Its not astonishing, that no one helped this state. It was also forgotten, that for the rebirth of the polish state 1945, more than 11 MILLIONS of Germans lost there homes and more than 2,5 their lifes, not worth to mention?
"...for the rebirth of the polish state 1945, more than 11 MILLIONS of Germans lost there homes and more than 2,5 their lifes, not worth to mention?"
It is worth mentioning... along with what event exactly preceded this occurrence. That is the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany, the destruction of up to 95% of its larger cities and infrastructure and the murder of over 6 million of its people. Not to mention how many more lost their homes.
