With newer technology, we're able to use less space to do more, and because there's less space, it means less materials, but they also have to pay for the research done to be able to make that product, so they price the electronic equipment relatively high, until the net from R&D starts to get higher from production, when they drop the price out of lower demand as well, due to better conductors superseding previous generation technologies.

how about because he compares government programs (education, healthcare, energy) - the nations backbone, to computer components from China and mobile phones from Nokia, Finland. Saying that stuff now from China has gone down in price, while government projects within the US where US workers are the ones paid is more expensive is his "demonstration" of how business is better than gov. For an economist his examples are always completely off.

After having watched the other clips in this Ron-series, I've come to the conclusion that was disrespectful of me to have said that. I retract it. This guy DOES know what he's on about. I suppose that's why it's such a good interview - an interviewer that takes cues from the interviewee as a prompt for the next question.

how about because he compares government programs (education, healthcare, energy) - the nations backbone, to computer components from China and mobile phones from Nokia, Finland. Saying that stuff now from China has gone down in price, while government projects within the US where US workers are the ones paid is more expensive is his "demonstration" of how business is better than gov. For an economist his examples are always completely off.

The argument you will get is "how can govt not provide food-the backbone of the nation". So your argument is similar to that. If govt can slowly get away from food, clothing and shelter, it can slowly get away from healthcare and education.

secondly my point wasn't that. It was more about the point that comparing prices of mobile phones from other countries and computer components from china having low inflation is completely incorrect because those are completely vastly different industries with different demands and different modes of function and business plans. So his comparisons make no sense, and paulites don't seem to think completely inaccurate comparisons are a problem in his economic vision

people listening doesn't mean he is a guru who'll magically fix everything. There are a number of opinions on economics out there. The reason people listen to him is because they think "something else must be better". Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But people clearly don't know enough to judge. Most people i've seen talk about ron pauls economics just seem to repeat almost identically what he's said as if by repeating it they are proving it.

Totally. When oil is measured in terms of the price of gold it has stayed almost flat for 40+ years. The same amount of gold then buys just as much oil as it did then--mainly because corrupt cartels can't just create gold and silver out of thin air!
