@you238 Did you know that years ago during world war I, a staff of females worked at a factory making nitroglycerin for explosives, and the large exposure turned there skin yellow, so they were called the canary girls? It was seen that they had great heart health and led to it being used for heart treatment. However they came accustomed to it and when on vacation, they had to bring a nitroglycerin powder to sniff to prevent horrible headaches. It did cause other bad effects tho.
@CarlMinez No... If that was in half life 2 barrels they would instantly detonate. The way half life 2 barrels behave it's nearly impossible that any known chemical or combination of chemicals could behave that way. You need incendiary rounds to get propane tanks to blow, and it's not a detonation. It's just a huge surge of burning propane.
@NitricSynth Not 100% true about the incendiary rounds (I've seen people do it with normal rounds) but it was a surge of burning propane (turned it into a rocket!)
@Darthwannabe When people do it with normal rounds they either need to have a very lucky spark or put a fire next to the tank. Most of the time people use a flare or fire.
@seqament It's actually not very sensitive at all. From reading about it you get the impression it'd blow up if you look at it wrong but in reality less sensitive than poppets.
@fluxcompression37 Too many factory runaway accidents and problems with partially frozen NG with friction causing explosions caused a lot of misinformation about it. As it freezes at 57F it's hazardous to work with in temperatures below 60F. Completely de-acidified it's quite safe to work with, however that can only be done within a couple hours with automated agitation. Otherwise it will need to sit in a maximum concentration sodium carbonate solution for days...
multiple washes of water will neutralize the acid and make the product more pure as nitroglycerin will remain at the bottom of a glass/ beaker of water. You can keep pouring the NG into fresh cups of water until no bubbles are present, decant/pipette the NG and it'll be non acidic.
@fluxcompression37 I ran into that problem and it seemed like it was impossible to neutralize the nitro so i just left it at ph 2, i washed it though. But anyway i just let it set overnight after i made it, and through the next day and on that next day at night it seemed like all the water finally came out and settled on the top, but don't set it out in the sun or let it get hot because it will make it less stable, oh and since it was acidic i used it that next day i didn't save it.
@fluxcompression37 You wanna know how to get the water out?? Ok i know they say salt water or using dissecant but honestly the way that works best that i've tried is i had my nitro setting in the bicarb solution in the sep funnel and some dripped out on my dresser, i didn't know it but a couple days later i found it, i removed it with a pipette and it was completely anhydrous nitroglycerin, worked very great and still not too sensitive to handle.. hope that helps
@fluxcompression37 So just find something to hold the nitro in, a lot of surface area is very prefferable you know like an evaporating dish, just set it in your garage for a couple days, be careful though because of the headaches, an acid vapor respirator from lowes works great for not getting the headaches while handling
Psh, my grandpa used to eat this shit for breakfast.

but will it blend?

You could probably release a few drops from that onto an ant hill and wreak havoc Berlin style.

this shit can detonate if you blow it away. don't try it.
