wod mods did you do to the engine? wot hp you got? I cant believe the torque! you mite aswell disconnect the throttle cable and go everywhere at idle. Top job!
Thanks so much, it took a lot of work to go through everything! It's not making much hp because I built it for low-end torque, probably around 280hp. It now has fuel injection so it should have a little more hp and torque. You can find more info on the website in my profile.
I'm lookin at a 1983 Cherokee V8, and I was wondering, do the cherokees have stereo systems? I've seen a couple of pics of the interior of SJ's and I couldnt find a radio.... this would probably be my daily driver/toy and i would need some music to listen to, even if it doesnt have one, it would be a hell of a job putting in a system lol also how do you like your cherokee?
Hey, Love the Jeep! I just bought a 1974 Cherokee with 85,000 original miles its in really nice condition but doesn't run... don't know why yet. Anyways where is a good place to find parts for these old Cherokees?
yo thats a fukin nice jeep sounds healther v8 6.6 L damn man i only drive an 86 with a 2.8 L...wanna trade?? lol j.k take care of that jeep or i will hurt u lol :P
how much does it get for gas mileage anyway? you must be getting like 6mpg right? or less?! haha, let me know, im thinking of fixing up a waggy i have parked in my back yard
6mpg off-road, probably less!! It really depends on how you drive it. Worse I've had it at was 8 city, but generally it gets 10-12 city and 12/13/14 highway going about 60mph. Highest I've had was about 15 highway. I'm putting fuel injection on it now so those numbers should go up by 1 or 2.
It's probably going to be the Cummins 4BT, but it's a lot of time and money I don't have right now. :( There's a vid of a guy on here that threw in a 6BT! I think you should definitely fix up your Wag, they're great platforms. What year is yours?
well.. this is the only clip of an AMC V8 with a flowmaster that i've found.. and im really impressed. i ordered two 40 series' for the commando. can't wait to put them on.
Dude. I love the mufflers! Not as toned as this, but hey. Im 3/4" smaller than yours is. It's great.. Just need to seal it all back up with some welds.
god that jeep sounds sexy

I am curious about the exhaust set up... what kind of muffler and any info on diameter at manifolds
Rand0muser 3 years ago
The muffler is a Flowmaster 40 original series, witha single 3" pipe. I don't know the exact diameter of the exhaust manifolds off-hand, sorry.

thats pretty bad, but for a 6.6 liter V8 i suppose thats rather good, hahaha.
lonespartan31289 4 years ago
Haha, yeah. Until I can swap in a diesel, this will have to do. But considering the 5.3liter V8 Hummer H3 gets 13.4mpg average, I'm quite pleased!
plasticboob 4 years ago
i would be too, what kind of diesel engine you putting in it?

Is that a 390?
prophetlikeGOOS 4 years ago
No, it's a 401, but they are closely related.
plasticboob 4 years ago
Ahh! I found this video looking up the engine in a 1980 firebird I'm looking at.
I basically got a good estimate of the kind of mileage I'll be getting! Thanks.

mengers06 4 years ago
what are you running for an exhaust?
my 73 304 needs a new one.
mengers06 4 years ago
It's a Flowmaster 40 Series Original (not Delta flow) with a 3" single pipe to shift torque lower. The interior noise gets annoying at times, though!
plasticboob 4 years ago
I'd have to fab up a Y pipe to do this.. but I might do a 2 in and 1 out (or 2 out) in 2 1/4, or 2 1/2. mine has a 2 1/4 right now.
Thanks, it sounds nice!

Jeep came out with a 2 door variant of the old J-series Wagoneer called the Cherokee. Obviously not the same as the XJ-series. Cool vehicle.
marty13579 4 years ago
that is a bad ass vehicle. but i dont think it is a cherokee
pmthk 5 years ago
It is a cherokee. They were made in that body style from 1974 to 1983.
Stuka87 4 years ago
This body style replaced the Commando.

Looks about like the 1 Popular Mechinics built on a dodge drango frame with a 5.7 Hemi.
