Anyone know if there are any Commando units in the Territorial Army? Or must you transfer to the RMR? Am Infantry but think Army/TA Cdo units are all Corps?
You can go for the "all arms" course and become an army commando. e.g. TA 266 batt commando have to be all arms trained in order to serve with 29 artillery RM
Ah okay cheers mate, but there are no TA Cdo Inf units? 1 RIFLES is Cdo roled so wondered if they had possibility of TA going for that course. Looks like I'd have to leave the Inf if I wanted to give it a shot. That or RMR, which would be even more of an admin nightmare to crossover to.
Although RA would be a change of scenery from Inf (probly a good thing) and I suppose you could train as a FOO/on the OPs.

don't doubt yourself, the cut off age for a royal marine is 33, so you have to have reached your 33rd birthday after you start training, and it's 26 for an RM Officer.

comparing the british to germans or bosnians who actually dont surrender during sieges (Stalingrad...Sarajevo...Budapest) is like comparing the germans to italians.
3/4 of the brits fighting at Yorktown, 7/8s of the singapore garrison, 3/4 of the arnhem paras, 4/4 of the royal marines on the falklands courthouse incident...all surrendered.
Thats hardly a history of fighting and excellence. then you got blunder against real fighters such as the zulus or germans at the somme or even the turks

@Sturmmann Do you make this stuff up? The British in Caen were up against 7 German infantry divisions, 8 Panzer Divisions, 3 heavy tank battalions. The British took the City by inflicting over 500 Tank kills on the enemy FACT
Now lets look a sarajevo, the Serbs absolutely pounded the third world smelly gypsy bosnians, the reason the gypsy bosnians didn't surrender was because the serbs weren't taking prisoners, they were executing everybody. NATO then intervened and saved the ingrate bosnians.

Germans treated the British with contempt, none of the heavy armor was ever present in W. Europe because Hitler consired USSR the real enemy. He didnt care until the Americans showed up in Normandy, only then was 1st and 2nd SS transfered
Let me remind you of what the Americans have done to yours at Yorktown and New Orleans or Suez canal at the end of both wars with them. You havent been back since 1815 and you even gave them the territories you fought for in the war of 1812.

@Sturmmann Let me remind you that is was Montgomery that planned operation overlord, It was the Royal Navy that provided Arty support for landing troops, it was the British commonwhealth forces that took 3 of 5 beaches while the Yanks fucked up the other two, British commonwhealth troops also liberated more European cities than the Yanks.

the commonwealth liberated fucking what? They were 1/4 of the western effort in late 1944, while the Americans were liberating all of Italy, S. France, Central Germany, S. Germany, Austria.
More ground was covered, taken and held by the Americans in 1944 than by any force on the western front during the entire war.
you had trouble liberating caen and arnhem from tired SS men and hitleryouth.

The British commonwealth defeated Rommel in Noth Africa, liberated the coastal ports of Northern Europe, Liberated Belguim, Holland and NW Germany. Look up Operation Plunder. Like i said, commonwealth forces libeated more towns and cities than the Yanks. FACT

@Sturmmann Where were they...hey were liberating Antwerp, Brussels and the rest of Beluim, while the Yanks were on the border of Luxemberg and Belguim taking a pasting in the Ardennes. Luckily for the Americans that units of British XXX Corps moved to secure the bridges over the Meuse. On 27 December the Corps pushed the 2nd Panzer Division out of Celles relieving the Yanks.
As for the poles contributing more to the War effort than the commonwealth..that just proves what an imbecile you are lol

the US SF actually fought in Somalia and Vietnam, they didnt surrender, if they were mauled, thats a +1 in their books for not giving in. But as for the SAS, all I see if a long history of caving into the pressure to save their own hides. From St Nazaire to Iraq and now Libya.
Fighting and surrendering are two different things.

the war of 1812 ended with the complete betrayal of all british troops by the uk govt with the treaty of ghent that literally gave back most of the winnings back to the Americans. Exept the Great Lakes, which the Royal navy lost themselves. Impressment of US seamen on the high seas stopped.
All of this happened after the war with napoleon ended. Its also the reason the American continent doesnt have the UK of A today, but US of A.

@Sturmmann Like i said before, the British weren't interested in taking back the colonies FACT, they were more concerned about keeping the jewel in the crown....INDIA FACT, and securing the Canadian border from yankee attack FACT. After a small number of British and Canadian soldiers chased the Yankee army all the way back to mississipi, the British peninsula Army that had just marched through spain and portugal were on there way to the US, the yanks heard about this and sued for peace FACT lol.

You lost the great lakes during the naval engagements fair and square but the british army did chase the us army around failing to take key points on land, yes the defeated us army got the territories they lost back.
It was an outright betrayal to everyone from those who fought to Canadians, whose borders couldve broadened.

All the British wanted from the Yanks was for them to stop harrassing the Canadian border, trying to annex Canada proved to be a big mistake for the Americans, resulting in a sound military defeat and the burning of their capital city....all while the British were giving Napolean a good pasting lol.

@Sturmmann No heavy armour was in Europe because the British lacked Heavy Armour, prior to the war priminister Chamberlain had made drastic military spending cuts, while the Germans were re-arming at a tremendous rate. During the Blitzkrieg, the BEF relied on the French Armour, and we all know what happened there.
As for Suez, President Dwight D. Eisenhower said that not supporting the British and the French was his biggest mistake as president. Look at the middle east now lol. Oh the Irony.

65 Royal marines V an invading force of 2000 Argies with Armour, as for the SAS in Libya, it was more of a take me to your leader type situation, they were released the next day.

@Sturmmann In Vietnam dozens of US special Forces soldiers were captured or surrendered, in Somalia US special Forces took a pasting, resulting in the capture of soldiers. Operation Eagle claw was a joke, as was Operation Redwing. Take Somalia for Instance, US special Forces had to be rescued by Pakistani Army with Malaysion Armoured Vehicles lol....How embarrassing lol.

You can go for the "all arms" course and become an army commando. e.g. TA 266 batt commando have to be all arms trained in order to serve with 29 artillery RM

Ah okay cheers mate, but there are no TA Cdo Inf units? 1 RIFLES is Cdo roled so wondered if they had possibility of TA going for that course. Looks like I'd have to leave the Inf if I wanted to give it a shot. That or RMR, which would be even more of an admin nightmare to crossover to.
Although RA would be a change of scenery from Inf (probly a good thing) and I suppose you could train as a FOO/on the OPs.

never say never...check the forum on the royal navy site, theres a few guys that admitted they were extremely unhealthy but worked their asses off and got to the required grade, I'm sure one guy was like 19+ stones and couldn't run 100m...but now he's like 15 stones and running 2 miles i think...just a thought

don't doubt yourself, the cut off age for a royal marine is 33, so you have to have reached your 33rd birthday after you start training, and it's 26 for an RM Officer.
