That HLCX trailing engine on Q453 is usually a rare engine you'll see in Hamlet along with CREX engines as well. I've been every Saturday of this year of 2012 and seen alot of them running espcially ex bnsf leaser power units
Pinsly Railroad Company, based in Westfield, Massachusetts, is a holding company of these short line railroads: Arkansas Midland Railroad, Florida Central Railroad, Florida Midland Railroad, Florida Northern Railroad, and Pioneer Valley Railroad.
Great Video! I was just on Google Earth the other night scouting the S-Line! I am planning on doing the same thing in Jan./Feb. Thanks for sharing! Rich Hill
Nice! Those HLCX leasers are getting more common again, with over 120 of them on the roster, now. There are also CEFX leasers, including the ex-Southern Pacific SD40M-2's. I caught three of them leading a train, with zero CSX-painted locomotives in sight. CSX has atleast 150 leasers in total, and I heard about another batch of them coming soon.
awesome work Danny!! I didn't even realise there were any stealth units left! great catch! can't wait to do my own railfanning in this part of the US in October!
Great video, as always. VERY interesting to see that diamond already out at Baldwin, I guess CSX is going to proceed very quickly on upgrading the S-Line. Its a shame to see Baldwin in the state that it is in, with all the traffic moving over to the S-Line, is there any indication CSX will reactivate the yard?
As a citizen of NC i was aware of Hurricane Irene and was in Hamlet as it hit the coast. Amtrak passenger service was cancelled for silver star service because of it. Great video
@troy12n Yeah. That's the now-famous "Epic" consist. :-))
Just like Evan Lofback said, it's all in what you're used to seeing.
First time I went to Callahan in 1995, I was blown away to see three B-36's pulling Q141 at 60 MPH around that curve. I had never seen railroading like that. Just 25 MPH Bone Valley Trains.
4 questions #1 how many locomotives are still in the stealth paint? #2 Have you ever caught the Stark Switcher on film? #3 Why are they scrapping the ACL Flip Top hoppers instead of Upgrading them? #4 Why don't The Florida Northern buy some old Dash-7's, Dash-8's, or Dash-9's although I guess they didn't because of the track weight & radius of the curves. Finally nice Job on Amtrak 156 I never get to see Amtrak unless they are wrecked or transport I wish that they would use a cab car.
Ken Ramp and I met Swamp Dog at Baldwin this past April while on our way to Folkston. We stopped at the Burger King on US-301 and he asked me for some change. I know it was him because he asked me when the next northbounder to Tallahassee was coming and that he was headed to Pensacola. I informed him that there weren't any. He had a dog and a few friends with him. Anyway, another great video, Danny.
Great video ! This one had some very good information about the different areas. It was so sad to see that extra work train/death train, for a once common BV area site of red Ex-SCL,nee ACL red flip-top phosphate covered hoppers are now all gone it seems. I've watched a few videos that has the same consist and trains that were recorded by other railfans on here. It seems several shortline firms use the "family line" method,lol.

OK now I have two questions first how tight are the curves on the Florida Northern & how much weight can they hold?

Curious Danny, did you happen to look at the nose of the stealth C40-8? It could've been a YN1 C40-8

@tartopfan All very good questions.
1 - No idea. Not many though.
2 - Never have. Only have seen it parked there at the depot.
3 - Too expensive. Newer hoppers are better built with newer safety features.
4 - Right. Only 4-axle power will work on their old tracks with tight radii. Again too expensive to buy anything new.

@distantsignal Also, not as big a need for flip-tops anymore. Phosphate biz is only a fraction of what it was just ten years ago.
