If I won €200 million on the Euromillions lottery would I have enough to get the best of the remaining Tu-114s (prob with Tu-95 engines) back into the air? It'd be worth it.
@sightscreen66 well, with that money, you can get a fully tricked out interior brand new (you can still order one if you have connections in Tupolev) with enough spare cash to make it armed with an automated gatling gun!!!! :D I would like one, but in Black :D
It is 1961 and Stalin's face is gone. How ironic, five years previous Stalin still controlled the streets. His face was seen everywhere. It was in this year that the reformist Stalinists removed Stalin's body from Lenin’s museum and started to remove Stalin from soviet history books. The Stalinist bureaucracy was ashamed of Stalin and of his crimes. Yet the USSR remained a bureaucratic dictatorship with Stalin’s face and win out Stalin’s face.
No real competition with the superconstellation: the Tu 114 was 250km/h faster (near fast like a jet liner) climb very fast and was much bigger...
But the Tu 114 was a bit to late, the Boeing 707 came out and catch the market depite much more kerozine consumption, but much less noise and vibrations and a bit faster...
Tu 114 fly long time commercial lines between Japan and the soviet russia...
If they restart production of this plane using composites (As the current Tu114 is way heavier than a 757) and maybe replace the engines with D-27s, if needed, this plane would be excellent for low traffic international route that doesn't need 767s.
@loshasguy The TU-144 was based on the TU--95 bomber. The TU-95 was basically an enlarged and updated TU-4. The TU-4 was a complete copy of the Boeing B-29
You are completly false (use googles if you don't see the enormous differences between a Tu4 and a Tu95)..., the hight speed swept back wings (like modern jets) are totaly specific for the Tu 95 and 114 but the Tu4 use a standart straight wing like the the B29...The Tu 95 was 100% different from the Tu4, not only in dimentions...
without a doubt one the best aircraft ever built.
farking love it!

@Mr2pint It is in my opinion the Marylin Monroe of the skies and the TU-154 is the Megan Fox of the skies ;-)!!!

Ту-114 остался в истории как самый быстрый в мире турбовинтовой лайнер. Его скорость более 800 км/ч. для тех кто не знает.

Tu-4 - 65 tonnes max
Tu-95 - 188 tonnes max
So an elephant is basically an enlarged and updated chihuahua..
