  • Gary pls come to London and perform for your fans pleaseeeeeeeeee.

  • A completely unique voice-instantly recognizable!

  • Music from Jimmy Payne and Jim Glaser , both the writers of that song .

  • It's sad that a lot of 1960's groups weren't able to continue singing for years to come. I've been a huge Bee Gees fan for 47 years. The reason they continued (until Maurice's death), is they had to re-envent themselves, as Barry Gibb had said in interviews. Groups/singers today don't seem to have the talent as those in the 60's.

  • remember hearing this in frankfurt, germany in i believe '68. was amazed by the power of his voice.

  • He still looks good too.

  • Shoot I love this guy!

  • Jim Glaser wrote this song.

  • After all these years still one of the BEST Why don't we hear more from him??/

  • Does anyone know if Gary wrote his own music?

  • Outstanding! I played their "Greatest Hit's" 8 track tape(over and over) on a trip to Dayton, Ohio in 1971. I was with my younger brother, and I was driving my new Opel GT. Great memories, thanks for the video.

  • @mstyles2 I wore out my Craig Pioneer 8 track with the 2 tapes I had. Gary Puckett and Buddy Holly. I had the Union Gap tape for over 8 years before it finally broke. My favorite/worst memory was jumping into my 1970 Chevy Nova in Orlando to drive to Birmingham Alabama to pick up my sister from college and bring her and her broken down Plymouth Valiant home. I didn't get out of the Orlando city limits before getting pulled over and ticketed for speeding. Right in the middle of Young Girl.

  • God!!! His voice is amazing!!!

  • I saw this great man in concert in Blackhawk, CO singing this live. God what a trip, He is so great. I'm 60 now and still love all his music, Thanks for putting his songs on here. Thanks so much.

  • Gary Suckitt & the Puking Gap...

  • @wreese1947 You've got no taste...

  • en los años 67 al 69,epoca de recordar este grupo ingles, que domino el mercado, musica para inspirar.

  • I love this man ♥

  • this guy still performs all the time he even comes to boston in city hall plaza every year and plays FOR FREE! just because he can no contracts

  • sounds to like a bad mix by the sound man

  • Gary stills sings and looks GREAT!...

  • why doesnt some promotor bring him to PERU!!!! please here we love you Gary, beautiful voice great man

  • Great voice. Second (living performers) to BJ Thomas. They are actually appearing together in May in Holland, MI. I'm a die hard Buckeye, but will be crossing the border for this one!

  • Right on song, and so good too listen to even now. ;)

  • Tell all of you something...Gary Pucket was then and is now... simply the GREATEST voice in all of pop music...bar none! No one sings like this guy, no one sings the songs this guy did. I'm sure there will be some who disagree with me and that's fine...but just remember, Gary Pucket's voice and songs have stood the test of time! Here we are 30 years later and HE and HIS MUSIC are still as great as ever! You're watching the greatest voice in pop music history right here!

  • @Kenny12554 Still great after 42 years in a singing career. I first heard him on A.M. radio, in September, 1969. I've met and seen him three times in concert. Very kool performer and an expert at what he does. His music brings back lots of neat memories of early childhood.

  • @Kenny12554 I agree with you--his voice is a force of nature. I'm a singer and he's my idol. Did you ever listen to his singing O HOLY NIGHT? I get chills listening to it--best recording of a xmas song by any modern singer. This man and his voice have aged gracefully.

  • It's too bad that sometimes the backup band is just too loud, or the mixer guy is asleep. Otherwise a great performance.

  • inolvidable grupo a la cabeza de gary,ya no hay canciones asi, luigi montagne cantautor peruano

  • hand full of hits, this guy had it in his day, should of had many more hits!!

  • He is really good here but I have seen him in concert and he looks so bored sing his old songs and it comes through his voice. In some occasions he almost talks through the song, instead of sing it. I know he has the ability. Watch him come to life on a religious tune, or like this video, when he really fires up. He sounds like the ole Gary we all love.

  • OK, I feel much better now. When I was 12, 13, 15, 17, I could hit these notes in the original key.

Now? Forty years later? I have to bump it down a full octave.

    But Gary? This...it's a full 1 1/2 octaves down.

I don't feel bad at all now.

  • Anyone who's interested in hearing an entertaining and in-depth interview with my friend's uncle, Gary "Mutha" Withem of Gary Puckett & the Union Gap should come check it out on iTunes (keywords = Mutha Withem). Enjoy! :-)

  • @clandestineone Hey Clandestineone, i'm kinda an old music historian. I'm curious where does gary puckett (Withem) live? , does he still still sing regularly?I'm always curious what ever happened to certain entertainers. Your response would be much appreciated, thanks.

  • @jeffsor47 ---> He lived and taught music here in San Diego for many years, but fairly recently moved with his wife to Indiana, where, I gather, he's heartily enjoying his retirement years :-)

He's on FaceBook as "Gary Withem", if you'd like to befriend him...

  • @jeffsor47 ---> And, just for the sake of clarity, we're talking about Gary Withem (aka "Mutha"), not Gary Puckett. From what I understand, Gary Puckett is still touring and releasing music, while Gary Withem is very much retired :-)

  • Forgert the music issues for a second.Think about the message of this great song.Gary seems to know EXACTLY what a guy goes through when he`s losing his appeal to his girlfriend...when she`s simply not interested in him anymore.I`ve been there...I know.I`m serious about what I say now.You have to go to the great writers-like Shakespear- to find this kind of human insight.Kudos to Gary for this brilliant achievement.

  • I used to confuse him with Tom Jones.

  • The main problem with this rendition is not Gary's singing it's the band they are playing it way too fast and not giving him time to breath or phase or anything. A guitar player can go as fast as his fingers will take him , a singer has to breathe. He still made it work, which shows his level of showmanship.

  • sorry for the loss but he left a lasting memory

  • He still has the richest voice I ever heard. A huge voice and he is only about 5'5" or 5'6"......

  • In his prime I think Gary was the best singer in his generation.Even though he is singing down a couple of keys...he still sounds great.

  • Fantastic band, and especially the keyboard player who's covering ALOT of territory, and doing it well.

  • @vampyros1 So glad someone appreciates the band for their contibution to the song. It's all about the singer these days. What ever happened to the talented musicians. Now they are merely faceless, nameless statues on stage now.

  • @mrmusic1953 I hear you; seems like these days real musicianship all too often gets supplanted by samplers, sequencers, and bad rapping. And this isn't merely generational sour grapes, it's the truth. It's a pity that some take the gift of true musicianship for granted, esp. when it's so rife with expressiveness and soul.

  • @mrmusic1953 Good point about the musicians. The American idol mentality is that only the singing counts. However the drummer here is heavy handed (and probably half deaf) and poor Gary has to fight him to be heard and to hear himself. I know. I've sang live and drummers who don't sing just don't get it. And they have damaged my ears.

  • Really enjoyed this video. Gary Puckett still has an incredible voice. Saw him perform several years ago and he is a very nice man. Still have the T shirt and picture. Good memories.

  • He still has an incredible singing voice. Saw him perform and he is a very nice person. Still have a picture and T shirt of him. Good memories. Thanks for the video!

  • We saw him in Florida earlier this year. He put on a good show and his voice is great. Very nice person and performer

  • The drummer is my grandpa.... He passed away about 1 year ago this week. RIP Papa Billy...

  • @TheAMKrew - I grew up with the sounds of Gary Puckett. I was reading the comments and came across yours. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope this video brings a smile to you with wonderful memories of your grandpa.

  • one of the great voices of all time. what a voice

  • Gary nailed every note, his rich lows and his top notes as well. It is amazing how the voices from so many years ago have held up. Engelbert, Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli- All near or in their 70's. They all sound great.

  • looks like gazza will be here in oct–nov (here being melb, aus): palais theatre (2 min walk from my house) and the palms @ crown (casino). he does have a great voice.. still gets plenty of radio time.

  • always thought he said Genie on your mind

  • I think he sound just fine for his age. NOBODY sounds the same in their 60's as they did in the 20's & as long as you aren't embarrassing yourself out there go ahead and sing even if you've lost some range. I sing and I'm in my mid 40's and I can't hit the same notes I could 15 years ago. You adjust.

  • @neneshubby

you should be able to ! go listen to Hank Locklin, he must be closing in on 80

its inspirational, oh by the way Gary is awesome !!!!

  • old age is a bitch

  • i spent years to found tis gay.

  • ...and he's STILL hot...

  • think there be a gary puckett & union gap reuinion ever?

  • I worked with Gary for a nice stretch in the 80's and I can tell you he's a class act, offstage, as well. He's a real gentleman, and those brilliant hits will live as long as people remember and appreciate quality and that majestic voice of his - wide as the sky, and just as timeless.

  • @pyannaguy I agree with you, he is a class act. Gary was married to my sister, Shannon, for about 8yrs in the late 60's. He was a wonderful brother in law & friend.

  • @tomye06 - Cool, tomye, I'll always look back on my brief tenure with Gary as something of a personal "Golden Age." You're a class person as well, judging from your comment.

Best wishes to you and yours!

  • All I can say is I wish I could sing. I wish I could get even close to his voice, alas I never will.

  • The drummer SUX!

  • I don't that he is BAD, but way over the top for this performance.

  • Yeah , he doesn´t sound like in his heyday but he still has the spark on this interpretation ...

  • LOVE GARY PUCKETT and Woman. What a fun time when this song came out!! If only we could go back for awhle. Great job Gary.

  • why doesn't some promotor bring him to UK nad put him on one of these Solid Silver Tours instead of using same acts all the time.

  • @rcpinsa that would be brilliant ...i,d be first in the q xx

  • this guy can still sing we love him ,,,

  • Iteresting women in todays music are called bitches and whores...?

  • I think he's like 65 in this vid......and you know what? he can sing this to me in Person, in Private...anytime!!

    TALENT. He's a keeper.

  • Hey we all Get Old Dude.... But I'mm sorry the Sprit of his Song is still there.... And let us not forget, Live is never like Music done in a studio.... There still Great in my Opinion....You Go Gary

  • thank you

  • put up some new videos please

  • VERY GOOD OF COSTA RICA SSMMUUAACCKKK

  • Flaming fantastic, wish I could have been there..

Love, Hilary here in England x

  • I saw him in concert several times in Charlotte NC, He has the voice but there have been times he just halfway sings his songs, sometimes he almost talks through the songs. Here he actually sings it, and does a good job. I know it is hard to sing the same songs for 35 years. Watch his eyes and voice when he sings a spiritual song, he really comes alive.

  • it is NOT that small birch Taiwan drum shell , it is the half deaf house-mix engineer, or the room acoustics, etc. or the recording of said drum. do you really think you are hearing the drum ?

  • Such a beautiful voice he has.

  • Is it just me or are the drums just totally wrong on this one? Maybe he should just stuff a towel in the bass drum to soften them a little. I don't know but the drum is clumsy and too loud.

  • This is a little closer to his heyday

sound, still short of it, but a more respectable effort for these days.

  • For a 65 year old, the guy is unbelievable. I heard Johnny Rivers a few years back when he, too, was in his 60s and he, too, is awesome. Fabulous.

  • gary puckett is and was and always will be one of the best singers of our time ever

  • well i loved this song but it does look like the old boy is kinda struggling a bit??/ sad but true!

  • Maybe you're correct, but the audio in this vid isn't very clear.

  • Several throat surgeries and being 65 years old would make you struggle to sing well, too, i'm sure. He still sounds amazing for everything he's been through.

  • I think he just didn't have his volume up high enough, and didn't know it.

  • yeah but he can get away with it because he is a LEGEND!!!!

  • I dedicated this song to my first true girl friend. God, I loved her so! She cheated on me and broke my heart into tiny pieces. It took over a year and another beautiful young woman to put it back together again. Where are you Noreen Jones?

  • Hi Ron, I'm 300 pounds and live in a trailer in Riverside

  • Hi Jim, I'm 59yo. and wasted my entire life doing absolutely nothing!

If you're young, do something and better yourself. Don't end up like me!!

  • take me back,let's dance

  • great video, thanks raffaele52

  • he will always b the best wat a great voice he is my ring tone on my phone love it,,

  • one of the best voices of the late 60's--gary puckett and the union gap--always loved the horn arrangements----peace !!

  • at 65 this guy is a credit to music anyone who slags this guy has no clue about real songs and the great memories they can evoke, the songs of today have no substance and will never stand the test of time,FACT.

  • I so totally agree with you!!!! THIS IS THE BEST MUSIC EVER!!!!

  • I agree 10% with the person who said that you can hear the audience singing--this is obviously recorded with a video camera in the audience, and it's ambient microphone picks up everything good or terrible.

Gary is hitting the notes and sounds tremendous--you critics are uneducated morons who know nothing about the difference of live singing and studio-perfect recordings.

Get a life and stop criticizing those who have talent just because you yourself do not.

  • Exactly! And I should know since I was operating the camera. There was audience sing along.

  • @raffaele52 thank you raffaele thanks a lot!!!! this is a gift from heaven to me

  • @Chthon128 AGREE...

  • Awe come on... You are hearing the people singing in the audience. His voice is still there. Some one is singing off key in the audience near where this is being recorded. You can clearly pick out the out of tune voice. Just listen.

  • I grew up listening to his songs, owned the records and I can say the voice is no longer there, sad to say. He doesn't even sound like himself. But I do think he actually LOOKS even better now than back then!

  • He still sounds pretty good, he looks really good too!

  • still sounds the same when hitting those notes.

  • I agree he still has the voice and can hit those notes at his age what can i say but wow.

  • Would never know that he is the original singer of that song.

    Bring down the curtain.

    MusicMatty67 on Youtube

  • saw gary yesterday at epcot... what a great voice a great singer.... have you ever seen or heard him live.... far from crap..you wont see any artist from the last few year singing there 1 hit song 40years from now.

  • He had throat surgery I heard. Even if he did not, he lost the voice I think. Not saying he is terrible. But his best days are over.

  • Wrong !!!!

  • He sounds like another singer..where's the voice??

  • Good pipes, Gary Puckett. Better than ever, and pretty damn good to start with.

    Pat

    Class of 65

  • Come on...better than ever! What voice are you listening to? His best days are sadly over...as they are for many of us baby boomers. Thanks for the memories Gary!

  • God Bless GP!! :):)

  • This is Tarrytown in New York? I live in Fishkill, not too far away. I thought he was from the UK. Music from that era is so good, I find from youtube.

  • Good to see him looking so fantastic and sounding good, but the band is terrible.

  • one of the best voices if not THE BEST of the 60ties.....

  • Yes! I experianced those years and all his mastery over any contempory of his.

  • talent never dies.... IT JUST GETS STRONGER!!!!!!!!
