when i was working in makati for an accounting firm, we had a visitor from Jakarta, and he is able to speak bahasa indonesia with my officemates from Pangasinan. i was told that they are almost similar. but if i were Christian, i'll learn how to speak bahasa indonesia. it's a very easy language to understand because of tagalog similarities.
