I was just told the keyboard player in this awesome tune, is a guy named Phil Madeira. He not only plays the Hammond, but also plays accordion. I must have listened to this 100 song times over the past few years. I was actually looking up Don Was and T Bone Burnett production stuff when I came across this gem of a tune.
@michaelponeill01247 Thanks,I'll look him up.The best music being made today is being made by guys and girls like these players. How it stays below the radar is beyond me.
No trucks and guns bullshit, Budddy Miller is the genuine article who comes from directly inside himself, sings with more grit than anyone in the game and gives us guitar textures no one else does. Hats off.
The absolute worst mistake I ever made was not keeping in touch with DON when we lived on Benneville street. My music and the music he loves are so close. Makes me wonder why things work the way they do.
To be honest with ya. I'm not the country kind of guy. I ran across this video by accident. I watched it 3 times. It touched me in a way that set me still and calmed my heart. THIS is what makes my sole FEEL.
I'm right there in agreement with you, uncle bob... Country or not, this music IS THE REAL GOLD... God allows us humans to listen to wonderful things every once in a while and this is one of them... Thank goodness this stuff is posted.... I just can't get enough of Julie & Buddy Miller.... The tone from Buddy Miller's hands, guitar, and amp is the Holy Grail to me... And I'm addicted to Julie Miller's voice!!!
I posted this on my Facebook page and so many people commented on it. Most of them had never heard of Buddy and Julie Miller and were very glad to be introduced to their music.
Written by JULIE Miller. The Millers should be getting airplay...not that phony middle of the road corporate pop country crap that gets played on the radio.
Just saw 3 girls and a buddy.. great to hear such pure voice... Buddy was great...looked good... sounded better... didn't play this song and was hoping he would... played "you worry too much" Loved that. He's really channeling "George Jones" here...
Hey everybody...He's supposed to play Here in Toronto June 5th "Four stars of contemporary American music - Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller - launch the 2009 Festival together as part of their Three Girls tour - one night only at Massey Hall!" check out "LUMENATO" festival. Also... look out for festival of SLIDE guitar on that site... you will not believe who is playing for free! Hope buddy's well for this...
walked into a record shop the other day and heard buddy for the 1st time and walked out 5min. later with Chalk and I am sold/love it and will be getting more
Simple, right? YOU try singing this tune just for grins (and yeah, I'll throw myself in there, too) - and watch it go skidding into a ditch. It would be downright cartoonish.
Buddy Miller is the music world's best kept secret. Incredible songwriter, incredible guitarist, and a genuinely nice guy. He was named No Depression magazine's Artist of the Decade in their last issue. Buddy rules. Great song, too.
same reason Susan Tedeschi isnt and Obama is president - we live in a seriously stupid, fucked up world. They have no sense and NO taste in music... nor do they understand the difference between talent and pseudo digitized HORSESHIT as seen on MTV, CMT and heard on radio stations everyday.
How true, and sadly, there is now an entire (often clueless) generation growing up that just eats up all the music/media crap/hype foisted upon them today. Lord help us.
who's cooler than buddy? another great tune from one of the best. and how about that lineup of guitars on the krauss/plant sessions? buddy, marc ribot and t-bone...it don't come no better than that, kids...
Buddy's one of the greatest. I attended his show in Stockholm supporting '..House of Prayer' and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to, hands down. Thank you Buddy!
Buddy sang this several times on the Carnival Cruise that started on 2/3 and ended 2/9. He was there with Emmylou, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt and a host of other singers, songwriters, etc. I/m so in awe!!! Buddy is amazing.
I heard Buddy perform this at the Pabst Theatre on the 19th. I was about moved to tears - especially with Patty Griffin singing harmonies. I was't sure if i'd ever hear that song again since he said it was new and didn't even have a title. I'm so glad you posted it. such a beautiful song.

Buddy Miller is just sooooo good!!!
This guy produces more emotion and raw power with a few chords than most other current songwriters I can think of - with the exception of Steve Earle.
Brilliant!!!!

What an incredible track. The sensitivity of the players gives the song a very spiritual vibe. Wonderful !

This recording is beautiful. Even better than the version that ended up on the "real" album. IMHO, anyway.
Anybody who knows more about this session? Where and how was it done? Did they really record the upright at the same time?
