@WildBills44 I wonder if Fraker felt any deja vu coming back to a town he essentially built almost a quarter of a century later to shoot Tombstone.
I also wonder if when he was shooting Paint Your Wagon, he thought "I'll show people how to make a serious western and show what Lee Marvin can really do with some direction."
@SkinheadCharlie , I don't know. I did go up to Wm Fraker on the Mescal set for Tombstone, shook hands and told him Monte Walsh was my favorite movie, that I really liked it. He was very gracious and thanked me, said it was his too. It was just a few seconds to meet him when he wasn't busy or me either.
Ahhh, my Anngail, This could have been me in some old desert town a hundred or so years ago...the words are like you each morning, a beautiful sunrise rising over a distant mesa to light the darkness of my life.
You and I will be the ones "they" all envy as they look in...'cause we are gonna love our way together through the years ahead. I so swear, the good times are coming, they're coming real soon..,my sweet girl, my darlin' .
This movie more than any other captures the indifferent, ignoble end to a very brief period in world history - the time of the western plains and the cowboy - but a time that will be remembered for millennia as America's Age of Legends and Myths.
A sad, sad movie for me because it was also in a sense the beginning of the end of the Golden Age of the Western Movie itself. Beautifully poignant. A favourite.
brilliant tune by my favourite female singer

One of the best westerns ever. This movie town east of Tucson was built for MONTE WALSH by William Fraker.
It's been used in a lot of westerns including Tombstone, Young Guns, Quick & the Dead...

Selleck is a decent actor ,but this role belongs to Marvin ,with sterling support from Palance and Moreau

Does anyone have the FAST VERSION of this song by Mama Cass? It's the version that was played during the credits, not this slow version?

@muncher64 I like the slow version

"I rode down the gray." Of course, Monte was the real gray. Brilliant work of art.

This is one of the greatest movies ever made. I do so wish they'd release it on DVD. Thanks for posting it.

Yea, the Tom Selleck version of Monte Walsh was a joke compared to the Lee Marvin original. I also wish they'd put it DVD. Bart
