  • very beautiful!! Like!! C:

  • Fantastic performance of an exceedingly difficult work.

  • She played so good! powerful and passionate.

  • le moment à 5,22 est vraiment top!

  • she's got the vibe, a sense of movement

but personnally i would play it faster, and her her bow technique could do with some tweaking but hey nobody is perfect and its a hard piece! :)

  • j'aime bien son phrasé et les attaques nettes de l'archer

  • Quite impressive playing, and what a great concerto.

  • 0:15 "Allegro"; seeing wei wen, it's difficult don't realise it xDD

  • A small giant moves mountains drinks an ocean! A modern miracle!

  • This is such a remarkable play!!! Wonderful !!!

  • Benjamin Beilman has the best version of this on youtube... look it up, he's amazing

  • lol i pucker my lips really bad when i play my violin cause i concentrate to much lol

  • It's unfair for wei wen to compare with Ferras and D. Oistrakh, she's only twenties

of age, and they had much more performing experiences.

The people who criticises this or that, I think they never touched violin before, right ?

Oistrakh moving so boring and sound effect 's 30 years ago not so good, If

watch youtube I'd rather prefer wei wen swinging on her melodic performance.

You may watch again when she played to the theme in harmonic technique

she'd a compromise smile with clarinet boy.

    Continue...

  • She's hawt! I don't know why everybody on youtube gets so picky about "Feeling her Libretto" or something like that. Its not like she'd really give it up to one of you guys ;)

  • this violin concerto is such a masterpiece and tremendously difficult to play. As comparison beethoven's violin concerto is much easier

  • I heard all of them, including the one here by Wei Wen, whose uncle taught her violin when she was a kid, and that this concerto was also that uncle's most favorite piece, and guess what, he committed suicide as well. Vengerov is no doubt one of the best out there, but Ferras indeed nailed this one the way it should be.

  • Yes. Quite good. Enjoyed this performance thoroughly - but I sympathize with some of the criticism; a bit hard to miss the errors if you know this piece. Then again - what the hell do I know. I'm just a lowly tuba player.

  • so good.. she seems stressed though. :( I wish I could see the version in the practice room.

  • Love her power!!! Gosh my teacher always says me to calm down when i play like she did, now i see it's possible to have so much fire as her and be excelent!

  • I like it, I have heard every recording I could gather...since 1961..I favor the Heiftez, Oistrakh.......any musician that can give these notes life is a gift....

  • Looks and sounds like Stradivari or something from the same era.

  • I wonder what type of violin she is playing....Anyone?

  • @teamjuano the ones for classical music hahahahaha JK

  • well in my personal opinion...while watching it I couldn't stop thinking that....this movement is kind of beyond her power and abiltiy.... =( but she played it very passionately =)

  • It's normal it sounds like crap because her violin is in PLASTIC!!

  • She played it kind of sloppy

  • Brava !! Hugs from Sicily & Peace to Whole World !

  • she missed notes?? :P

  • i love the way these peoples head looks like they are having a seizure :) Great playing also.

  • you guys...you cant always have a performance that's 100% perfect. okay, it's about the overall performance...so dont hate the entire thing just cuz she missed a few notes. gosh.

  • essa mina toca muito manolão!

  • quel entrain , belle et trés plaisante cette artiste

    trés attachante

sonorité un peu âpre ( le violon est peut ètre cause )

mais trés belle interprétation au niveau de la cadense ...

  • I didn't know anyone could make Sibelius sound crass and ugly until now. Congrats, Wei Wen!

  • i have not heard a more boring composition than this

  • @zucchini2007 ,zzp1 my sentiments too. orchestra and especially the violinist

create exciting music. maybe born with fast twitch muscles and musical

    brain ..

  • Wen Wei is good, but Hilary Hahn is the Queen of violinists.

  • This is serious good music! Passionate, dynamic, in tune and don't forget this Sibelius. Ugly difficult, at times kakafonic and even unharmonic, not a first choice of many musicians. Sibelius? Masterclass for toptalent.

  • @zzp1 Yes. So many people fail to understand the point of his compositions. This piece is supposed to sound this way. Aggressive, raunchy, uncomfortable. Crass and ugly. Too bad some people have trapped themselves in their own personal atmospheres that block out valuable paradigm shifts.

  • That's it? She could use an Oistrakh, Milstein, etc. master class.

  • I disagree with Vesters1, her phrasing is better than Hahn's. Her dynamics are impeccable, and her tempo is right on target with the orchestra. This is a brilliant violinist!

  • Great spirit, I must say. But, um, go and listen to Vengerov, right the way through. He is actually inside this piece.

  • This is not that good... Hillary Hahn did this movement better

  • Haha the video is completely unsynchronisized as you can see :)

  • Fantastic!!! congratulation!!!

  • nosssa meu essa mulher toca muito cara qe isso

  • 4:05.. the violinist guy is checking her out. lol

  • I would be too.

  • sie spielt so schön! und sie ist es auch :O

  • lol stop arguing you no-lifers... Who spends their time playing violin everyday?

Personally I can't tell shit about sound, she looks like she is giving her best effort and thats what really matters. I am sure that there are people that are better than all of you guys combined togeather, so GTFO with that bullshit...

  • why do you all talk shit? - this girl is way better than all of you, but not nearly as good as me

  • people not born to be an extinct, they are learning

hard I prefer your mother better

  • @mashinkle

    You make me sick

  • @mashinkle

can we see you play? upload a video.

    * waiting with baited breath to see the best...*

  • You can have critique on something you don't master yourself for different reasons, like when you heard the piece, played by someone else... then you can compare... So why do some even bother to ask if one can play the piece better? it does not matter :P

  • i prefer Hahn's version ^^

this girl is good.. but shes a bit off pitch sometimes :T

  • she good!

one day ill b like her

    lol

  • Try to play like her and get the notes and tempo right before crticising other people .

  • what are you talking about "typical", racist much?

  • THis is a commendable performance to me - Ive got the nigel kennedy recording of this, and I think this version is more melodic than his, I cant criticise it, its certainly not the worst Ive heard, and I enjoyed it...

  • hmmm very nice song....

  • very very good. but she messed up in several places she shouldn't have. also, the video/audio ratio is horribly out of sync.

  • u are sooo right, compare her to sarah chang^^

sarah does it much better. this is an insult for the sibelius concerto, but i think she plays it still better then many others.

  • im sure you could play it better right?

  • I like it very much!

  • i do not like how she expresses it, she misses notes, and gets off sometimes on the tempo, it is not the best recording, but she gave it a good go, it being such a difficult piece

  • Es bastante buena.

  • She is amazing and confirms that violinplaying is not a competition.

  • first time ive heard this piece, and its just transported me to where the music takes you. Sibilius is just magnificent. mind blowing ,wonderful music . I rather like the interpretation of the young lady. if your up their with the best ,then an audiences taste is always going to cause conflict ,as one likes the other more etc. and in the end every one is right because its your opinion. as individuals your opinion is right for you and me and mine i right for me and you!

  • I would love to hear her, perform this in ten years ahead.

  • In my book, Nigel Kennedys version is the best - and the best classic music performance I know of all I heard. But this is one is very good, she is struggling to getting it right, and there are notes not being hit perfect here and there. But she is very much on the track, as to how this one is handled and played optimally.

  • Look guys, I didn't mean to spark so much trouble, but have you even listened to Oistrakh play this piece? His tone quality is the best I have ever heard.

I have played the violin for 11 years, I have had master classes with Dusi Mura. She is a life long friend to our family. The Franz Liszt academy in Budapest took an entire day out to honor her. If you don't listen to me, listed to her.

This violinist is obviously very good, but she isn't the best, and why not listen to the best.

  • no one said shes the best...its obvious oistrakh is better. but that doesnt mean we cant listen to anyone other than the "best" violinists. no one cares about ur personal violin experience. ur not the best. who gives a damn about u since we should only listen to the best.

  • I never play violin also can not read music sheet. But i do have good ears and heart. D. Oistrakh did not perfectly play sibelius violin concerto. And i don't think it was a good performance. And he's not the best. In youtube i know one performer that always play perfect. Goto Midori.

  • I don't believe there is a single best violinist, because everyone is different, however, Oistrakh is one of the most respected violinists who has ever lived. He was called a King of Violinists.

He recording of the Sibelius was pretty good in my opinion, however, you are right, it is not the best.

  • When Midori was young and made her Carnegie hall debut she was quite amazing. She has since fallen off. Check out James Ehnes, Christian Tetzlaff, Jeila Josefowicz.

  • Too many people on youtube think they are classical music experts/violin prodigies. To those who complain about her 'missed notes' or 'improper tone' or whatever - let's see you do better. She's playing with the professional orchestra; you're not. There's a reason for that. The woman plays the violin marvelously and while you might like "this person's" or "that person's" interpretation better - give credit where credit is due.

  • @lucretius1 Where there are those who stand out, there will be detractors. Don't denegrate them for what they do for it is their only solace in this world.

  • @lucretius1 and she is not only in a professional symphony. She is the featured soloist! Respect man!!! You can see the other violinists hating on her skills on 2:21 They are all thinking "I wanted that solo!!!!!" haha I thought that she was amazing and very beautiful. GOod job :)

  • @lucretius1 Unfortunately, some constructive criticism could be given, seeing as she does indeed miss notes...mostly early on. I don't pretend to be able to play better than her, but I know what I hear, and I have the right to criticize it. The reason I haven't is because she's not likely going to read this anyways. My criticism is not meant for anyone else.

  • @lucretius1 Exactly. Nothing but failed musicians taking cheap shots at the performances of successful people. BTW, I'd hate to live in a world where every composition was played mechanically the exact same way each time!!

  • @lucretius1 THANK YOU....!!!!!

  • as a violonist player with experience I CAN SAY THIS ROCKS :P is one of mt favs :X and she's adorable, too . I like her attitude....

  • A diferença entre os vionistas europeus e os demais é justamene alma que, muitas vezes, lhes falta. Aqui se toca co alma, o espírito, não uma execução mecanica como vemos em muitos europeus. Sem preconceito.

  • A very interesting piece! Sounds nice

  • By the way, Oistrakh's performance as well as Ferras' performances kind of knock this one out of the water.

  • Have you heard Hillary Hahn's? It is the best I've heard on here, especially for her tone and connectedness.

  • There were too many out of tune notes. She's not bad, but in general, Europeans play this piece better.

  • Yeah, she had too many wrong notes....but I think it wouldn't be fair to say that "Europeans" play it etter. Are you some kinda white supremist? I am afraid to ask what you mean by that comment.

  • i agree, no race or country men/women play it best, it all depends on the person and how much effort they put into a masterpiece

  • you moron, its not liek europeans are born better violinists, its influence and hard practice. If your goign to say something so stupid dont even bother

  • To be honest it is a logistical nightmare of a piece and she did very well to play it to this standard.

If you can do it better I'd like to see a video of it.

  • play blacked?

  • wow, this one is soo different from the one that sarah chang played. sarah chang played so much better.

  • This performance doesnt convince me at all. I feel that she has a hard time playing it, her lightly irregular rhythm seems to me due to the difficulties of the piece. I was also irritated by her bouncing around.

Yes, in fact, her outer appearance should not play a role. Cover the monitor and just listen. I thus disliked her play.

  • Wow..wei wen is amazing.

Not only was i impressed with her interpretation, techniques, and precision.

But i was distracted with her bouncy and shiny hair.

  • she could be a legend

  • wooo sexy and talented

  • The Sibelius piece is not 'crap'. It has enough variation, nuance, and melodic substance to make it an interesting adventure for the listener. It is not written to please one particular individual.

  • at grbtruck: I understand everyone has their own opinions but this piece is far more dimensional than a paganini concerto. Have you ever heard Sibelius's 2nd Symphony?

  • she got electric shock lol... anyway good job

  • talented but I was distracted by her "weird" body movements!

  • why is everyone putting thumbs down for comments saying that she's sexy?

i think she is and she also plays the violin beautifully

  • I love this video but now it is out of sync. If somebody please can post the same video but in sync I would be greatly thankful.

  • Bad sound picture synch.

  • she's talented!!!!

  • 好

  • this girl is soooo sexy!!!

  • Good job!

  • lol

  • wow

  • Certified Intergalactic! This girl is the winner!

  • Surprised to find that she played this piece as good as oistrakh. YouTube has david's.

  • anyone knows yellowcard's sean mackin he's good too

  • gee, it sure is racist in here

  • thanks for the upload. great music

  • AMAZING> She is wonderful! I love the Sibelius Concerto!

  • i want to play this on viola but i can't find the music !!!! or maybe they just don't make it

  • this concerto was made for the violin by sibelius....lol

i don't think viola can even go this high on some notes

  • Chinese vilion baby :)

    just Fantastic!passion music,passion person!

You westen ppl have no idea how difficult to learn music in China. and how difficult to play in the world for Chinese. proud of her !!!

  • but the violinperformance is very good

  • i see the video hear the sound, sorry i thing is not together,i thing the sound is later work.

  • 10......virtuoso espirito do violin

  • great performance, but i feel it is lacking in understanding and overall shape. the music has many moods, and i don't think she portrays them well enough.

  • ...don't demand from an Asian uderstanding the nortern european moods... ;)) not their music

  • shirusu, it is talent, practice, discipline and passion. It seems like Asians take over Western music on a very inspiring way. Check Sarah Chang, Midori Goto, yoyo Ma,Ha Na Chang, Chang Chin Shan, Aimi Kobayashi, George Li, Yuia Wang and many others, if not convinced yet. But music is very international, as any artform. There are no borders among artists. We are all one: humans, who like to accomplish great things.

  • Yes, sure... Although: "talent, practice, discipline and passion" - you see, understanding still missing. There will be no second Oistrakh or Heifetz. The competitions nowadays are all about accuracy, and so Asians might rock... I am not against them or anything, adore my asian colleagues-musicians actually :) but... still, to make a TRUE, outstanding player,

  • i like the style very much!

  • gosh this looks so cool and it sounds so wonderful too!!!! very good!! keep up the greatness!!!! also is it just me or they are playing it so fast that it looks like they are fast fast forwarding it ha!!!! great job!!!

  • kinda crashes through the arpeggios and slides through the 32nd runs at the start.

    intonation is sloppy too, throughout.

    Really nice recording tho.

Listen to Hilary Hahn play this.

  • I don't want to hear Hilary Hahn play anything, she plays things perfectly but it's boring as hell.

  • dude do you know how hard it is to play this? can you play it?????

  • Listen to David Oistrakh better

I think Hillary Hahn is overrated

  • Fantástico,simplesmente!!!!Muito bom.

    Fantastic, perfect congratulations!

  • I like. Very human.

  • listen to mayuko kamio play it

  • i don't the performance but great hair though! lol

  • I am sorry, but this is just not a good performance...lazy if not sloppy, and lacking bite, I would say. Listen to Kyung Wha Chung's.

  • Well, she's definitely a passionate performer.

    That's a plus.

  • Wei, you are the best. I listen you every day!!!

  • i liket a loooot

  • Not such a big fan of this performance. She misses/muffles runs and her intonation is a bit hit and miss in places. Dont get me wrong - she's still a fine player, but when compared to 'the best there is' this performance comes up a little short, in my opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • its awsome but really how can you read that

  • awesome can violas play too?

  • I kinda feel sumthing missing compared to other's. Maybe it's just me but it's still very good!

  • Not quite as bad as my typing though.

  • She does struggle, with thin tone, missing notesa, sliding to cover absent note, poor thing.

It's being played at a funereal pace too, perhaps so she can manmage it.

  • amazzzzzzzzzzzzinnnnnnnnngggggggg so much passion and feel for the music , also a clear performance

  • it is when u havent heard how its actually played

  • Very beautiful and clean performance. I really enjoyed the power in a lot of the passages, that's what a lot of this mvt is about but it almost seemed like too much power . . . not in any place but throughout. In other words, it would have been even better if there were a few lighter, more quitely urgent parts rather than loud urgent the whole time. Still, a great performance

  • Extremely well done. The conductor restrains the orchestra to allow the solo violin its proper voice and colour, and when the Sibelius score calls for full sonic texture, as at 03.44, the conductor knows when to release the valve. Beautiful stuff and a delight to watch. Thanks for putting it up.

  • Is this movement called "the polarbears' polonaise"?

  • Very emotional, sensitive, beautiful phrasing, excellent technique, and powerful sounds.

    BRAVO !!!

  • i preffered miss pogostinka's prokofiev in that competition.

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow =)

  • violin= my favorite instrument

    2. Chinese zither

    3. organ

  • incredible.

    very moving as well

  • I knoe her! she lives across the street from me!!

  • Aweome. I love this piece and this is a very good interpretation

  • I love this peice...

  • i wonder what instrument she plays on....
