The difference between the East and the West is obvious. When immigrants first came to America we all had different backgrounds but managed to live in harmony without forcing our different beliefs upon one another. I have faith in America and believe if that we will survive. However many Americans need to understand the real face of Islam.

I gave two ways in which I believe the West is not superior. The first ways is in terms of values/culture. I think it just obvious that not all agree the West is superior. The individualist goals you list are Western. I cannot Muslims prefer it.

the ability to survive is at the basis of the pyramid of human needs. as a human person. as a culture is another thing, but as a human being, our ability to survive is the best history has ever seen.
so, a great culture is not measured by life expactancy, it is measured by the number of artistic, technical and philosophical geniuses that culture produces. the amout of masterpieces and the number of people that apreciate them.
to make myself more clear, I think the nobility of soul and appreciation of beauty (among others) are the universal values. nothing brings a human being closer to gods. closer to perfection.
our culture WAS a great culture but still has the technological tools to be a great culture. but it lacks the confidence. it lacks the people that hold very dear the values that made posible our culture. therefore, I think that our culture is just a ghost of what it once was, and for example, the beautiful European cities are built by a different kind of human being than the one is inhabiting them now. they are like little green aliens in a musem they dont understant. this is my impression
About the superiority of western values I will have to agree with Mark Steyn and say that western values are superior to all in whatever way and from whichever perspective you would look at it. Why do I think this? it's very simple:
because in western culture, you can become whatever you want and you have the tools and education to an accomplished person in any way imaginable to somebody (as long as it does respect the laws imposed by living in a comunity.This, I think, is superior to all others
