gary moore was brilliant gets introduced for the first time and blows the crowds head off with his incredible playing and i dont think many people had heard of gary at this point but they sure as hell knew him after this performance legend
What a team! Saw Thin Lizzy in I think 1983 at Birmingham Odeon, standing room only, but I don't know if Mr Moore was with them or not. They were incredible. The world was a different place then and so was the music.
At 3 minutes and 16 seconds, Phil's introduction of Gary begins, Gary answers by giving one of the most agressive-mindblowing outburst ever played on an electric guitar. RIP Gary my great hero of the guitar, your music is timeless.
Walked out on Lizzy? From what I heard in interviews Lynott and Moore were always at each other's throats, even back in Skid Row, and they couldn't always stay in that close of quarters for too long. They were similar to the relationship of Phil Mogg and Michael Schenker of UFO. They both created magic together, but they would constantly be at odds.
gary moore was a fucking wanker who walked out on lizzy 3 times and has now turned into one of the biggest cocks in rock music. anyone who disagress needs to wise the fuck up....
Saw Gary fill in for Robertson at a Lizzy concert in Chicago in '79. The bands on the card were Lizzy, Pat Travers, and Foghat (yes, Foghat was the headliner). Pat Travers and Thin Lizzy blew Foghat away. In 1979 though, Moore was still relatively unknown in the states.
@AussiePride991 I a Tv show live 1985 he tells everone about how he ended out palying a Righthadned guitar when he was left handed about how easy the solos was
Gary's solo makes me laugh everytime i watch this- its just so ridiculously over the top, it just goes to show there's alot to be said for absolute sheer arrogance and a 'look at me i fucking rule' appraoch in a rock band lol. just perfect.
AGHHH 1!! i was born to late !!!!!!!! the closets i get this era of Thin Lizzy is that i'm about to see Gary Moore to play Hard Rock for the first time in about 20 years in swedenrock festival ! for those who can listen to Thin Lizzy without Phil i think everyone should know that Brian Downey is back in the Thin Lizzy nowdays ! =) Thin Lizzy is the best band ever !
I too wish they would remaster this as the audio is horrible sounding. I have this on VHS video and it was released by Rhino Records. Rhino on the sleeve said that this concert was improved and in hi quality but what was actually fixed?? I hate to see what the non-improved version look & sounded like??
@sooperkula they've got a dvd of this concert thats remastered, and i've heard recently that the rest of the band have been meeting up and jamming and listening to all the old raw unworked recordings, they are talking about remastering some tracks to allow phil's vocals to be heared more clearly.so there mught be more remastered albums still to come.
@sooperkula They can't remaster it, the master tapes sounded like shit originally. I have this on VHS tape from 1987, mail order from Australia. If they tried to clean it up, it would ruin it. They also tried to make money on it already by releasing this on CD back in the late 90's, and it sounded horrible.
I was at this show too, and have pics to prove it. In fact, I have seen myself in one of the clips taking pics.. which is really weird to see 31 years later.
It was a legendary show and I think they were as in awe with Sydney on a sunday spring afternoon as we were with them.
THe crowd of 70,000 was Sydney's biggest outdoor concert at that point in town. John Enligsh and Sportz played too, and some band called Wha -Koo that I can't even remember.
i think guns n roses is the best live band because those shows on the usi tour were surreal, beside the whole.. axl problem, they put on the best show, but it is pretty pointless arguing which band is "better live" cuz its all just personality, but this fucking show was so nice, which i could have been around.
I know someone who this was their first gig - they were only 8 and they can still remember it clearly. I'm so jealous, but I was even younger at the time. Dang. I really wish they'd remaster this dvd. The sound sucks for half of it (particularly Bad Reputation & Jailbreak) and even when it does improve it's not that great. It's such a great concert.
If you want to hear some great stuff with the drummer (Mark Nauseef), check out Ian Gillan - Live At Budokan from 1978 I believe. It's more jazzy, but the drumming is just as amazing.
Can you get this concert anywhere? Is it on DVD?

Mark Nauseef was brought in by Gary. Mark was the drummer in Gary's solo band G-Force at the time.
