    I wondered too, but, I think it may have been a police or fire chopper dropping divers into the water, close to the plane, and from not very high.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS CAN BE AVOIDED

    WRONG WRONG WRONG

    A bird strike on an engine causes the bird to be sucked thru the fan blades without any damage to the blades However as the bird is digested by the engine it will usually cause a blockage giving a misfire of the engine which then has to be shut down.

    There is a good example on here search for Thomson 757 at manchester.

    No fan blades were damaged in the bird strike so your frozen turkey test does not apply.

  • Now the lawyers will come out of the woodwork saying to the passengers they should sue for the frost bite in the water and also the emotional distress from the accident. They will claim the airline was negligent because they should have seen the birds before they they hit the birds or should have installed a laser beam that shoots down birds by the plane. Then the lawyers will get millions.

  • Someone had their leg decapped and their insurance will cover lawsuits. I agree that it is unfair and usualy unjust, but that is the nature of hyper-capitalism.

  • We had a presentation from pratt and whitney one time, when they test new engine designs they throw a 20 lb FROZEN turkey in teh engine to be sure it can handle it. So how the hell does a few geese cause this. and why was there cockpit smoke. Something does not sound right here!!! Thank God for smart pilots
