FYI - most female competitors complete double axels (which are 2 1/2 revolutions having a forward takeoff). Mao Asado of Japan does a triple in competition. Axels are a big deal! They are much harder to learn - due to the forward takeoff and the extra 1/2 revolution in the air. On the footage - those were double axels. A fellow skater.....

Yeah, i guess. i finally can do a biellmann! i've been trying for about a year to be able to bend my arm back to get my foot up there, and i can finally do it! i also figured out that if i do backwards biellmann then i can go into an axel right after! it looks cool when i do it.

Why does it seem like so many skaters do their jumps so close to the barrier? I skate a little bit, and for me, somehow it feels a little more "safe" to jump close to the barrier (so I don't bump into anybody else), but I'm sure that is not a factor for them!

i think they skate close to the barrier cuz they take up all the rest of the ice getting speed. it takes a lot of speed to do triples.
